Beware of the Isuzu towbar
In 2014 we purchased an MUX and we are very happy with it however we brought the car to tow a 22ft caravan. We had an Isuzu towbar installed. Last year on out travels the towbar completely snapped as it was rusted through. The caravan came off the car. We were very lucky we were about to set up for the night when this happened. We could have been killed or someone else could have been killed if we were on an open road. d about this. Isuzu would not honour the warranty. In our travels a lot of caravaners use the same system in their Isuzu DMAX or MUX. Is Isuzu going to wait until someone is killed before doing something about this problem. I contacted a specialist towbar dealership who advised me in writing that I could use stabilisers if I wanted an Isuzu towbar fitted. How many Isuzu owners with this towbar are risking serious injury or even death. please be sure to get your facts before purchasing an Isuzu.Purchased in September 2021.

Troubles not being fixed by dealer
The car is great, easy to drive, economical and a great tow vehicle. It performs well in all conditions. Only let-down is the navigation system, the maps are outdated and dealer hasn't upgraded them, even though they have been requested to do so well before the 3 years were up; this was a complimentary service offered by Isuzu before the 3 years were up. Now Isuzu are saying it is our responsibilty at retail cost to get this done! NOT GOOD ENOUGH

We have inner guard crack too
Our MU-X also is 2 years old and has done 70,000km. Discovered the crack earlier this year, which prompted us to show it to the local Isuzu dealer we purchased it off. They advised we drive it only on bitumen until the repairs are complete, then applied to have the crack fixed under warranty. This was subsequently denied by IUA, firstly because they alleged our vehicle had been in an accident (it hasn't), and then because we had added various accessories. fuel consumption
My 2015 Isuzu mux has done 45000 k's and has never missed a beat. I am getting 800 k's to a tank but this did not happen until I reached 40,000 K's and I do not think it is fully run in yet. Best vehicle I have owned. Costs much less to run than the Toyota GXL I owned and has no interior noises what so ever.

Love love love this car!
We purchased our MUX in 2015 and it has been the best decision we have made for a vehicle purchase ever. We will be buying another! Its roomy with so many features. We bought the top of the line with gps and dvd player. The dvd player has been a god send with the kids. Gps has been excellent also. There is nothing I do not like about his vehicle. The metallic silver is easy to clean and gorgeous to look at. A+++++

Underrated and reliable
Overall I'm really impressed with its fuel economy (averaging 8.2L/100km) and low servicing costs. Reliable Isuzu engine and 55,000km later it hasn't missed a beat. One of the most underrated 4WDs out there. I have slowly added extras and the aftermarket accessories available are growing. Well done Isuzu, it's a winner.

Best 4x4 on the market
After test driving all the 4x4 on the market the isuzu is value for money and almost faultless. The suspension is a little soft, so an upgrade is recommended for off road use. Towing 2.7 tonne is done with ease and excellent fuel economy. The over priced Toyota Prado is in no comparison with the isuzu. Ford Everest is also rated well but you might need an extra 20k with a few extras.

Perfect car for on and off the road
Great fuel economy for touring and very reliable Isuzu engine. Seem to go anywhere the ground clearance let's them including driving in heavy sand.Very powerful engine compared to a hilux 2017 best choice I've made.Great amount of space inside for kids or storage and around town has a much better turning circle than anything else.

1st Year anniversary of the mighty MUX
So after months of research I finally settled on an LSU MUX...now after 12 months what does the report card say against my research. A tick in every box.
With some factory options and some after market gear and 25k on the clock..this is one happy owner. Fuel econ + (over 12 months avg of all types of driving 7.9l/100kms), Comfort +, reliability +, Off road +, everything works and still goes...exactly what the research and manufacturer says will happen ...does.

fuel economy
My 2014 MUX has been a pleasure to drive. I bought it when I first retired and have only just gone over 30,000kms.
Unfortunately the fuel consumption has increased after each of the last two services at the dealer recommended service centre in a northern Perth suburb.
After the last service I also noticed a whistling noise when taking my foot off the gas (without breaking). Also the digital fuel indicator seems to go from 190km range to 0km range.

Plenty of research pays off
After some 6 months of research I picked up my mid spec mux LSU great to drive perhaps a tad noisy but fuel economy is brilliant I am averaging around 8l/ 100 around town and some highway..I had put on extras as it did not include a rear camera which is a must
Early days yet but actually enjoy driving it..greta space but doesn't feel as big
I drove Prado for a week and found it felt big as well but I thought why pay another $12k..

Excellent car all round.Couple of issues - POSITIVE UPDATE
Owned the car for 5 months upgrading from a Hyundai Santa Fe 2009 which we used for towing a hard floor camper around Australia / sand / light off-roading / mainly central Sydney short trips and family car. vie whilst wanting to listen to the radio. So we got the U and opted for canvass covers which are amazing. On this point, I can't find the covers I bought anywhere and the ones at our dealer are terribly thin and loose fitting! I think I got the prototypes...... Love the Isuzu and wouldn't change it but feel compelled to mention the following: 1. The engine cut out shortly after pulling away on an incline and after having levelled out. Speed was less than 20 km/h, distance approx 100m. This was 1 week after the 1st 5000 km service. For fear of invalidating the warranty I touched nothing, and left if to the NRMA man to pump the primer which in turn allowed the engine to start. After returning the vehicle to the service dept and leaving it with them for 2 days, there was no explanation other than the car was low on fuel, I was pulling away on an incline and the car must have taken a "gulp of air" resulting in an air block in the fuel supply. The tank was just over a 1/4 full at the time! 2 weeks earlier I had run the car to the empty warning light to see how much fuel was in the tank at that point. At light indicator coming on, I was able to put in 45 litres only. On a 65 litre tank that leaves 20 litres in the tank/engine. The incline when the engine conked out was LESS STEEP than our local Westfield car park. The service dept reply: "you would never off road on a near empty tank". To be clear, I wasn't off roading, I was dropping the kids off at school. So the jury's out on this one. I only went to the Isuzu dealership because the service was free, and I will absolutely be going back to my local mechanic for future services. 2. Bluetooth phone is poor with terrible echo. I understand there are some tweaks that may make this better. On the do list to have a play with....... 3. No decent rear bumper scratch protector. The stock option offered doesn't protect the lip which is what you need when loading/offloading. On a pucker 4WD work horse this is strange. Afterall it's a D-MAX with extra seats so you'd kind of expect the "tradie" pedigree to have permeated through. In my case, I made a minor scratch unloading some gear but this was made considerably worse by the idiot auto electrician who did a real good job of scratching the crap out of the rear bumper (presumably with a belt buckle) when installing my Andersen plugs. However I found a fantastic after market protector (available from a firm in south Sydney that I found on ebay with remarkable after sales service) that fits perfectly and is easy to attach.Similar opinion? Automatic Shudder
Can anyone advise what is wrong with my 1015 DMAX Ute. On take off and stopping there is a "shudder" It seems to run rough and I am very unhappy. The vehicle has done 17000 km and it has been going on since 15000. The dealer has acknowledged the problem and advised they are working on repairing the fault. Be interested if anyone else has had a problem. I am in Western Australia.

Reliable, economical and roomy 4WD
My Isuzu MU-X LSU 4WD meets all of my driving requirements. It can go anywhere in the remote outback, because it has 230mm ground clearance - an essential to avoid damage. It has hill-ascent and hill-descent control for those very steep mountain grades, and full underneath steel body protection. Transfer gearing in high and low range for those steep grades. High gear range can be selected at up to 100 km/h. Economy wise, I always average around 7.8 kp/100 litres, not going over 100kp/h. This gives a good range based on a 65 litre fuel tank. only criticism is that the fuel tank could be bigger in capacity. The interior is fine in layout ecetera. With all comfortable seats folded down, my wife and I have slept in the Isuzu many times, though a bit tight between the wheel arches (I am 1.80m tall.) I guess like most vehicles being serviced at dealerships, the major servicing schedules 40,000 kms. (at $1,095), can put a whole in the pocket! However, a good job done is re-assuring for longevity. The timing belt is steel and is said to last for 500,000 kms. All in all I am very happy with my Isuzu, and with 42,000 kms. now on the clock, I have not had any problems. I bought the Mu x for the reliability, I'll just have to put up with the minor probs, like small tank, no roof rails, ( I could have put some of my fuel up there), second row seats won't fold flat. Simple, strong & reliable
Bought new, 2014 LS-U model. Stepping up from a manual Forester and wanted something with a bit more grunt and bushability for our outback trips. We tow an offroad CT weighing about 1.4 tonnes gross. As others have found the fuel efficiency is good.

at low speed with the throttle off. It now has 27,000 k's on it. Some seepage from the oil filter housing was detected at a service and fixed under warranty. Otherwise it's been faultless. Starts reliably at sub-zero temperatures with Alpine diesel or an additive. My partner and I have developed an affection for the wagon and we've christened it Mr Burble. The vehicle is priced competitively compared with the Pajero and Prado; it doesn't quite have their refinement nor their list of features but is still plenty capable as a blacktop tourer, tow vehicle and offroader. Isuzu claim that the engine should last 500,000 kms with scheduled servicing. It uses a cam chain rather than belt so that keeps major service costs down. The broad spread of power (peak torque at 1800 - 2800 rpm) makes it a good vehicle for slow offroading. It's understressed for max life - it's only when wanting to overtake at 100+ while towing that I feel the need for more power. The suspension shows where costs have been cut and a replacement kit is advisable if planning on a lot of offroad or dirt road work.2 comments

on the factory fitted D693s in passenger construction. The AutoXtras/ARB 110 l plastic tank has been fitted. Dobinson suspension lift kits have been fitted and proved to be less than brilliant; they had to be changed on the back and twice on the front. There are design and build quality issues. The only continuing irritation is with the lack of a high-load rated recovery point available that works with the model of bullbar fitted.At 80,000 kms the vehicle was found to have a body crack in the engine bay and one in the inner wheel well.

ed if the dealer (Suttons Brookvale) had updated the maps when requested within the first 3 yeas of ownership. We were advised by Isutzu to remove the SD card and update the maps ourselves, this, or when the dealer removed the card is when the SD became damaged but we were refused a new card under warranty. We received the replacement SD card today, at a cost of $300, it was inserted by the dealer and fortunately the maps, radio, bluetooth and other functions appear to be working correctly.
