Love my MUX
I purchased my MUX 2wd in August 2016, and it is a 2016.5 2wd LST,with the 5 speed auto transmission. It was primarily for towing our 18ft van which weighs roughly 1750kg loaded. We have travelled 63ks since then, and the only fault I have found is the fuel tank is a little small for the long distance traveller. We had a 116l tank fitted so it is no longer a problem.
Fuel economy varies from low 8's on a trip to mid 9's per 100k in the city. Towing the van we got between 12 and 14.5 travelling between Brisbane and Darwin. I am no leadfoot and a...Read more

Supremely reliable and trouble free currently at 190000km
This vehicle was purchased primarily as a long distance/ tow vehicle in late December 2013. It has just clocked up 190000 trouble free kilometers, still on original suspension and brake pads, and its third set of tyres are relatively new. Apart from a bust turbo when relatively new AFTER a service, replaced under warranty, there have been no breakdowns or any repair work required - servicing only.
The vehicle has travelled all over Queensland NSW and Victoria towing horse floats on often very bumpy roads eg Taroom to Moree. It has survived th...Read more

Bad back up of product
Innate the LST 2014 Isuzu mux I have had my GPS upgrade 1 year after I bought it in 2014 I was told by the salesman that I would get upgrades for the GPS but when I went on to download the map it was the same one I had on mine I even went back and got it from sevice centre but still the same so if I had known at the time I would of bought the model down from the LST

Navigation upgrade costs
The car is very good my complaint is with the cost of the navigation up grade. Tried doing it today but stopped when I found out the costs were $200. Will just have to put up with errors that are in it. Example is on the south eastern freeway into Adelaide the speed is 90K this is on the screen but just before the two fixed cameras the voice tells you its 100K. This type of error is all the way through.

Did not last 150000 unsatisfactory vehicle
I brought brand new isuzu mux with rusty rotor disc and the only answer i got is that is how it is with the cars kept outside the showroom.
Its good on diesel with factory faults the brand new mux i had was sold to me with mis aligned wheels that gave me lots of worries and disappointments
Finally after the 125000 km engine warranty it ended up. Leaking coolant from between cylinder head and engine block.

Great, with a few caveats.
Love the MUX. Overall a great car. Good view out, especially looking out the rear passenger side as a driver trying to see oncoming traffic.
The negatives...
We have a terrible wind whistle which we can’t find. Painful. Anyone have an answer??
Road noise is high.
Turbo lags a bit.
The rear storage unit is so tiny, almost worthless.
The ride seems to float along, bouncy is how I would describe it.
Would we buy again? Yes. If only we could stop the wind whistle!!

Love our latest addition Isuzu MUX
Love our MUX, can not fault anything. Our grandchildren absolutely love Grandpa's car, especially the dvd player. They think they are so cool when grandpa picks them up from school in the Isuzu. We have fun watching the grass grow and have one tree starting (an app that tells you how you are travelling ecomonically). Dealership was fantastic Harrison Isuzu, Shane sales manager and Johnathan salesman.

After some disappointing cars the MU-X is by far the BEST car I have owned
After owning several below average vehicles from new over the years, I have finally found one I am very happy with.
The MU-X 4WD ticked all my boxes in the car I wanted, and after 18 months, I wouldn't swap it.
I was after a 4WD I could take off-road, that was reliable, economical, and without the big price tag that usually comes with the Toyota's or Nissan's. Although I can service a car, I am no mechanic so reliability was my main criteria, as I intend to go outback touring. The Isuzu is renowned for it's reliability, and there are very few...Read more

Great car, terrible customer service.
I bought the ISUZU MU-X over a Prado because of the 5 year warranty. I've had two warranty claims with terrible service/communication from the dealer at Chullora. They have repeatedly lied to me, don't seem to know the vehicle (didn't know where the fuel pump was). They tell me it will be ready, don't answer their phones and then I find out it's not ready when I try to pick it up (this happened 6 times for the one warranty claim).
Now my GPS/stereo is broken. I took it in for a service they said new one was order and they would call me when...Read more
it is ready. After 4 weeks I call them, they forgot to record the serial number needed to order a new one (they had previously told me it was already ordered) and I need to take the car back in for a day so they can remove the unit, then I will need to take it back in a third time when the new unit arrives. They should have called me when they realised that they had stuffed up the first time. They are so hopeless that the guy at the service desk admitted that customers need to chase them as they don't call people back. The 5 year warranty would be great, if you can actually get the vehicle fixed. I've had poor service at a few other ISUZU dealers as well but Heartland at Chullora takes the cake. ISUZU Australia, great vehicle I should be on my second by now, but you need to teach your dealers about customer service. The dealer at Geraldton was fantastic, send him around Australia to your other dealers.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very happy owner after 2 years
Very happy with our purchase. Great after sales service. We feel valued as customers. Reliable, tows well. Basic interior - which is very much a plus for us as we have kids. Easy to park but fits all we need. Flexibility of use. Exceeded our expectations, very happy to recommend.

Great vehicle but weird beeping
Has anyone had a problem with an intermittent beeping (single 1 second beep) with a MUX (MY15)? It seems to be activated by opening the rear cargo door. It then occurs the next few times that either the rear cargo door or driver's side door is opened then goes away. When it happens, a 'CHECK SYSTEM' message appears on the driver's display. It has occurred with motor running and not running, key in close proximity to vehicle and not. Dealer has checked it but cannot replicate the problem. I'm trying the spare key at the moment to see if it's related to that.
Apart from this, the MUX is a great vehicle - on road and off road.

Beware of the Isuzu towbar
In 2014 we purchased an MUX and we are very happy with it however we brought the car to tow a 22ft caravan. We had an Isuzu towbar installed. Last year on out travels the towbar completely snapped as it was rusted through. The caravan came off the car. We were very lucky we were about to set up for the night when this happened. We could have been killed or someone else could have been killed if we were on an open road. The dealership informed us there was no warranty cover as we had a weight distribution system on the caravan. We were never tol...Read more
d about this. Isuzu would not honour the warranty. In our travels a lot of caravaners use the same system in their Isuzu DMAX or MUX. Is Isuzu going to wait until someone is killed before doing something about this problem. I contacted a specialist towbar dealership who advised me in writing that I could use stabilisers if I wanted an Isuzu towbar fitted. How many Isuzu owners with this towbar are risking serious injury or even death. please be sure to get your facts before purchasing an Isuzu.Purchased in September 2021.

Great tug but a weird wind whistle and ‘floats’ along.
Just got the 2016 MU-X. It pulls the new 21’ caravan very well, even without the Haymen Reece on. Fuel eco is OK. I do have three concerns.
1. The rear boot space is tiny, I am used to X-Trail or Prado type drawers and space. I might have to rip out the third row of seats.
2. There is a strange wind (?) noise. Comes and goes, but seems to not be speed determined, rather wind speed and direction. VERY annoying and if you know how to get rid of it, email Tiwassie2 at gee mail dot com. PLEASE!
3. When it is driving along unladen, it ‘floats’. S...Read more

Troubles not being fixed by dealer
The car is great, easy to drive, economical and a great tow vehicle. It performs well in all conditions. Only let-down is the navigation system, the maps are outdated and dealer hasn't upgraded them, even though they have been requested to do so well before the 3 years were up; this was a complimentary service offered by Isuzu before the 3 years were up. Now Isuzu are saying it is our responsibilty at retail cost to get this done! NOT GOOD ENOUGH

MU-X where have you been!
Great 4WD! We brought it because it it was so family friendly. Has got 7 seats and a dvd player for the kids. Seperate aircon for front, middle and back passengers. Also has airbags around the whole vehicle - so if safe for kids right at the back.
Is great for 4wd driving - buy I recommend getting fatter tyres then the ones that are currently on it.
We get 700km to the tank.

Love it
I bought last years model, MY15.5, in Jan 2017. I was looking at getting the 2017 model, but was finding it difficult to find specific details about it apart from it had a 6 speed transmission. I went to my local dealer to try and find out more about it, but they told me Isuzu keep this information close to their chest until it is released. They did however tell me that the list price would be about $10,000 more than the current model. I negotiated $48,500 for the 4x4 LST with towbar, electric brakes, anderson plug and mats. When the MY 17 was ...Read more
released, it's retail was only about $1,000 more than the previous retail price. Oh well, live and learn. Apart from this initial felling of being lied to, the MU-X is great and the price was competitive. The initial fuel economy was brilliant, I since have put a bull bar, winch, roof rack, long range tank in it and the economy went down by about 7%, which still isn't to bad. I put a hole in the side of the wall on a rock on my first 4WD excursion after only 4,000 kms. I have changed to all terrain 4WD tyres and would recommend anyone else do the same. All in all, it is quick, has loads of torque, easy to drive and I LOVE it.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

FUEL READOUTS INCORRECT
Fuel readings are not consistent, when new it was easy to 7.8 or 8.0 litres / 100klms it now gives false readings of 25 or 15 litres / 100 KLM other stupid readouts, filled up with fuel to the top of tank and was driving down the highway minutes later at 95 KLM/hour with a read out saying I had 960 to go, with a 65 litre tank that's impossible. The car has only travelled 15,000 klms, the only thing that seems correct is the bar graph gauge. Isuzu don't seem concerned at all, just wait for my next service heads are going to roll.

Fantastic for up here in the SA outback
I have been a Toyota man my whole life, with the exception of a work 4wd many years ago (Holden Jackaroo - Isuzu). So when we went looking for a replacement 4wd I was expecting to pick up another Toyota. Well like many did some on line searching and lots of reading and thought I would at least look at and drive a MU-X before buying my Toyota. Well long story short, I was impressed with the MU-X and the price certainly didn't hurt, what great value for money. To be honest there was something in the back of my mind would the Isuzu be reliable and...Read more
be able to handle the desert conditions we currently live in. The answer is so far it has been GREAT, we have done 40K kms fairly quickly with a lot of it done along the Borefield road, 4wd tracks and the Stuart highway. Not a single issue. Missus is very happy with the interior and the comfort level. Being a Radio tech, I found it easy to install my mountains of two way radio gear and to my surprise very little electrical noise when using my HF transceiver. All round it's a winner and would take it anywhere without any hesitation, what a great 4WD for the price. Well done Isuzu...Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
We have inner guard crack too
Our MU-X also is 2 years old and has done 70,000km. Discovered the crack earlier this year, which prompted us to show it to the local Isuzu dealer we purchased it off. They advised we drive it only on bitumen until the repairs are complete, then applied to have the crack fixed under warranty. This was subsequently denied by IUA, firstly because they alleged our vehicle had been in an accident (it hasn't), and then because we had added various accessories. The dealer suggested we take up the matter with IUA ourselves, but twice more IUA has reje...Read more

ed if the dealer (Suttons Brookvale) had updated the maps when requested within the first 3 yeas of ownership. We were advised by Isutzu to remove the SD card and update the maps ourselves, this, or when the dealer removed the card is when the SD became damaged but we were refused a new card under warranty. We received the replacement SD card today, at a cost of $300, it was inserted by the dealer and fortunately the maps, radio, bluetooth and other functions appear to be working correctly.
