Low tech but strong!
Strong, roomy, reliable steed but seriously lacking in technology. 3 litre motor is strong but unrefined, noisy, harsh and lacks power. Trans shifts can be quite harsh. Inside it's the usual Asian car story - plastic. A sea of plastic! No rattles and creaks but the audio is woeful for a current production car. Top of the range and no Nav. Poor quality phone integration. Poor switchgear location for ESP, electrical mirrors and rear fan. Rear screen entertainment has no headphones so everyone has to listen to what rear seat passengers are watching! Rear load cover is a throw away item!

Best thing since sliced bread
We have had our Mux three years and have driven it around just as a car and also towed our caravan over 30,000 klms it handles extremely well very economical when towing we get around 11 literally per 100 and just driving around 8 per 100. It is very roomy and comfortable if I could say the only problem we have had is sometimes the gps has a hissy if. I would recommend the Mux

Amazing BUT could be better
We love our MU-X we have the top of the line but it's a little disappointing in some areas.
It's good to run around town, fuel efficiency not as good as our previous Holden Colorado, also doesn't tow as good as the Colorado did either. (We have a camping trailer)
Interior is mint, it's comfortable but not OTT so it's no problem when my little grubs make a mess. Leather is easy to wipe over. They love the DVD player on long car trips. It's also super roomy, which is why we went with the MU-X over a prado or fortuner. Leg space for my 7 year ol...Read more

Looks good
Pulls a 19 foot caravan with ease. Good mileage on long trips. Low fuel useage and powerful engine. Exterier seems to mark and scratch easily could be the quality of the paint. Would recommend getting window tinting. There is an annoying blind spot behind the passenger seat where the air bag is.

Love Love Love my MUX
There is nothing about this vehicle that i do not like.
It is so great to drive the seats are comfortable and there is ample leg room.
The dash is easy to see and not to distracting.
Great fuel economy even around town and if you are on the highway it is exceptional.
Great for towing our caravan Loves driving in the sand and off road

Good value and practical Family SUV
I considered and compared a number of diesel 7 seaters SUV prior to purchasing my MU-X LS-T back in August. On my shopping list was the Isuzu MU-X, Toyota Fortuner, Holden Captiva, Holden Colorado7, Mitsubishi Pajero and Ford Territory. Buying an Isuzu was definitely not an emotional purchase but a practical one. Coming off a 2004 Mercedes Benz ML270CDI which was an absolute nightmare to own and bleeding me a lot of money with repairs, I decided to go for something more reliable and practical. I test-drove the listed cars and after doing a lot ...Read more
of research and comparison, finally narrowed down the choice to the MU-X, Fortuner & Pajero, which seems to be the most reliable of the lot, before deciding on the MU-X as the Fortuner & Pajero do not come in 2WD/RWD given that I do not need 4WD as I only do City driving with mostly sealed roads and do not see the point of paying $7-10k extra for the 4WD gears). Other than that, the three cars seems to have similar driving feel/manner, so it was a matter of equipment levels and built comparison. For the positives, this car has very good space for 7 adults to sit comfortably. Built quality seems good and there are no rattles so far. The MU-X has a good firm feel whilie soft enough absorbing the road bumps and curves. The 3L engine has more than sufficient power for the car this size and I don't feel any turbo lag during acceleration and overtaking. The gearbox changes gears reasonably smooth. Fairly economical fuel consumption for the size of the car, averaging 10L/100km for mostly short trips City driving. The leather seats are comfortable for long drives, and our 3 kids love the DVD player and roof mounted screen. The parking sensors ans camera helps a great deal given the size of the car. Isuzu also has a reputation of building very tough and reliable diesel engines which further swayed me into buying the car. I recently managed to avoid an accident from an idiot driver who failed to check his blindspot and swerved to change lanes almost hitting my car despite me beeping the horn like hell to the idiot, but the MU-X behaved very well engaging the ABS and ESC keeping the car stable at all times and assisting me avoiding the accident. On the negative side, the engine sound is a tad noisier compared to the others particularly during acceleration, but cruising is a lot quieter. The cruise control can be a bit jumpy particularly when braking or cancelling the cruise control. For a top model (LS-T), it does not have front parking sensors available unike most other brand's top equipment model. Also the bluetooth connection is very basic and a bit dated, and there was no Apple Carplay/Android Auto. Inside the car, there are a lot of hard-plastics (but so do the other Japanese/Korean cars these days) although the plactics feels well built and assembled without any rattles. Given I only owned the car for merely four months, I cannot comment of servicing costs and/or long term reliability of the car but the Isuzu's seems to be well regarded by many happy owners and I couldn't find many complaints from Isuzu owners on the internet (try comparing that to the Holden Captiva's and Ford Territory's) Considering the overall value, this was a great purchase and while it is not the most refined car inside and out, it is a very practical car with a good value and a comfortable car to drive in. Happy with the car so far, hopefully for many years to come.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Better than I expected
Drives brilliantly, tows very well with plenty of low down torque. Handled hard off road work easily with other 4x4's struggling (Mitsubishi Pajero & Toyota Fortuna). Interior very commercial and could be softened. Steering adjustment could be better (no reach adjustment) . I expected a more ute like drive but the softer coil rear suspension destroyed my expectations. The dealer and Isuzu follow up and customer care far exceeds what I have received from other makers in the past.

fuel economy
My 2014 MUX has been a pleasure to drive. I bought it when I first retired and have only just gone over 30,000kms.
Unfortunately the fuel consumption has increased after each of the last two services at the dealer recommended service centre in a northern Perth suburb.
After the last service I also noticed a whistling noise when taking my foot off the gas (without breaking). Also the digital fuel indicator seems to go from 190km range to 0km range.

Nagging faults
I did my checking and could not fault from other reviews. Vehicle ran ok for the first eight months. Nagging problems with fuel gauge jumping about and blue tooth not holding my phone but learnt to live with. Then the problems started, fuel sensor packed up dealer knew straight away what was wrong. Two weeks later had to be towed in again. This time, fingers crossed they found it, rusted wiring loom to the fuel rail. Took three weeks to get fixed. Two weeks after getting car back broke down again. Third time in eleven weeks, been off the road for four of those. Told its the same problem the new fuel sensor has failed. Fingers crossed it is now fixed.

Great car.
Solid car. Isuzu could improve sound system, suspension and the cheap looking dash. Fuel gauge is a bit funny as it jumps in 50's. Otherwise great can't fault anything else at 50,000km now. I will upgrade to the 2016/17 model soon since this one I bought in 2013 didn't come with keyless entry and ignition.

Plenty of research pays off
After some 6 months of research I picked up my mid spec mux LSU great to drive perhaps a tad noisy but fuel economy is brilliant I am averaging around 8l/ 100 around town and some highway..I had put on extras as it did not include a rear camera which is a must
Early days yet but actually enjoy driving it..greta space but doesn't feel as big
I drove Prado for a week and found it felt big as well but I thought why pay another $12k..

Isuzu mux fuel consumtion
I noticed a report of 11.5 litres / 100 km when used rurally. To get this consumtion the there is something wrong with you're vehicle or your a lead foot. I have had mine for 12 months and these are approximate averages I get: around Perth suburbs 8.9 litres / 100kms and towing a one tonne camper around Australia the average was less than 9.8 ltrs / 100 km. The most economical cruise speed with the camper was 98 km/ hr which is about 95 true. Driving at 110 km/ hr it rises to around 10.6 ltrs/ 100 km. Towing my camper I have recorded 647km wit...Read more
h a fuel uplift of 57 ltrs and on the same sector my friend uplifted 102 ltrs into his nissan patrol diesel. The 65 litre tank which I was concerned about was never an issue and I never had to refuel more often than my friends 130ltr nissan. Worthy of note that 30000 kms around Australia and no faults at all..none. I also find the auto changes down far quickly from 5th to 4th. So I operate with the transmission in the manual selection, it will still change down but at a much later point. The compromise is a vehicle that's a bit agricultural around town but in the bush the rougher the better. The front shockies get a bit hot and soft but only on long sections of very rough surface, it did a lot of offroad or poor road travelling and was shore footed and for the occupants very comfortable. March 8th 2017 Update: Another fuel consumption for my Isuzu Mux I have now done 42000kms in my vehicle and recently did a trip from Perth down to Denmark and return not towing anything. Driving at an indicated 115 to 120km/hr for most of the high way part of the trip I managed a computer average fuel consumption of 8.4ltrs/100km. In real terms for the 1040kms I used a tank plus a 20 litre top up, to be safe, for a total fuel used of 82litres for the trip at the refill or an average of less than 8.2 litres per 100 km.Similar opinion? Excellent car all round.Couple of issues - POSITIVE UPDATE
Owned the car for 5 months upgrading from a Hyundai Santa Fe 2009 which we used for towing a hard floor camper around Australia / sand / light off-roading / mainly central Sydney short trips and family car. Fully aware we were trading up on the reliability/off road creds and downgrading considerably on the "bells and whistles" of the interior. We looked at the T because of the leather interior but were quickly turned off as DVD player was massively dated and our kids are happy with their own devices. Also, I didn't fancy listening to a kids' mo...Read more
vie whilst wanting to listen to the radio. So we got the U and opted for canvass covers which are amazing. On this point, I can't find the covers I bought anywhere and the ones at our dealer are terribly thin and loose fitting! I think I got the prototypes...... Love the Isuzu and wouldn't change it but feel compelled to mention the following: 1. The engine cut out shortly after pulling away on an incline and after having levelled out. Speed was less than 20 km/h, distance approx 100m. This was 1 week after the 1st 5000 km service. For fear of invalidating the warranty I touched nothing, and left if to the NRMA man to pump the primer which in turn allowed the engine to start. After returning the vehicle to the service dept and leaving it with them for 2 days, there was no explanation other than the car was low on fuel, I was pulling away on an incline and the car must have taken a "gulp of air" resulting in an air block in the fuel supply. The tank was just over a 1/4 full at the time! 2 weeks earlier I had run the car to the empty warning light to see how much fuel was in the tank at that point. At light indicator coming on, I was able to put in 45 litres only. On a 65 litre tank that leaves 20 litres in the tank/engine. The incline when the engine conked out was LESS STEEP than our local Westfield car park. The service dept reply: "you would never off road on a near empty tank". To be clear, I wasn't off roading, I was dropping the kids off at school. So the jury's out on this one. I only went to the Isuzu dealership because the service was free, and I will absolutely be going back to my local mechanic for future services. 2. Bluetooth phone is poor with terrible echo. I understand there are some tweaks that may make this better. On the do list to have a play with....... 3. No decent rear bumper scratch protector. The stock option offered doesn't protect the lip which is what you need when loading/offloading. On a pucker 4WD work horse this is strange. Afterall it's a D-MAX with extra seats so you'd kind of expect the "tradie" pedigree to have permeated through. In my case, I made a minor scratch unloading some gear but this was made considerably worse by the idiot auto electrician who did a real good job of scratching the crap out of the rear bumper (presumably with a belt buckle) when installing my Andersen plugs. However I found a fantastic after market protector (available from a firm in south Sydney that I found on ebay with remarkable after sales service) that fits perfectly and is easy to attach.Similar opinion? Will definately buy another, maybe an MUX next time? If not an MUX will go for the LSU version, bit more bling. Very, very happy.

Is let down by the GPS
The car drives OK but when you pay $50+K for a car you expect a GPS that works. The one in the MUX LST has maps that are out of date and they want $150 for an update. Even then, you can only get maps that are at least 12 months out of date. Not acceptable to me.

Over one year on with my Isuzu MU-X LSU
I have spent most of my life in the motor industry both retail and manufacturing and possess a Full Technological Certificate in Automotive Engineering and have been in various management positions including Fleet and Truck Service Specialist for one of the big three. So when I tell you I believe the Isuzu LSU MU-X is the best vehicle I have ever owned or been supplied for free you can take this as the truth.
This vehicle is beautifully manufactured, fit and finish is excellent and apart from two recalls has been completely trouble free. NVH...Read more

Great multipurpose vehicle
Had Mu-x LST 6 months, very happy. No problems whatsoever. Tows 2100kg (240kg ball weight) caravan brilliantly without a weight distribution hitch, minimal rear sag. Fuel consumption under 9 l/100km around town, under 12 l/100km towing the van, amazing. Smooth, refined, ample power and torque. Could have a few more features such as auto headlights and wipers, radar cruise control, more passenger seat adjustment but still great value for Isuzu dependability when compared to Prado, Fortuner, Everest etc.

Polished monster
1 year now owning this bronze beauty. Solid car, good handling even for a petite 5 foot 2 lady like me (though does require a bit of scrambling up to get on the seat). More than ample space, kids love the in car entertainment system, powerful AC. Impressive off road ability. Few glitches initially with handbrake adjustment and alignment but rectified by dealer promptly. Hoping for many many years of faithful service.

Excellent Utility

I am a small business owner and use utility for daily city driving and carrying loads..it's very good when you own a small business and use it as a utility vehicle for carrying people and loads around town. I drove the vehicle for 13 months, put about 18,000km with hundreds of hours inside the traffic..

I use my utility in Thailand where it rains (pours for months) and has bad road most of time..200-300mm flood during rain season in Bangkok..also very bad traffic, a lot of stops and go.
