If you are travelling to mutliple locations throughout Japan in your holiday and plan to utilise the Shinkansen (bullet train) - this pass is for you!

This pass is cost effective and so easy to use - would 100% recommend.

All JR rail is covered but you need to show the pass to actual people at the station entry/exits. So no tap on tap off option. Also there are multiple subway lines in the big cities like Tokyo that it cannot be used on. But if you get the JR rail map - it is easy enough to plot your movements in advance. The bottom line is - it was cheaper to buy a 7 day pass than to pay for individual trips to Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima return to Tokyo. I would strongly recommend going into a JR service centre and booking your seats on the 'bullet' trains for peace of mind.

Wonderful for getting around Japan. Easy to use and good value if you are travelling around Japan. Easy to book seats on Shinkansen and other JR transport options. Would be great if we could get a pass for longer than 21 days.

My wife and I used our JR pass for two weeks. It was very helpful and enabled us to be flexible in our travel plans without lining up for tickets all the time.
On the downside, they are so many other transport providers, its hard to know which you can and can't use. We ended up with three different passes in Kyoto and a Suica card.

We received our passes quickly and they had supporting documentation which explained where and when to use them, as well as how exchanging worked. Also included a free guide e-book.

It was easy to use and very convenient. Loved how we could book our seats on the fast train. Very worthwhile. We were able to travel from Osaka to Kyoto, Hiroshima and Tokyo using our pass.

Thank you - brilliant method of travelling. Clean at all times. It was always on time, reliable, fast and the food catering was wonderful. The staff at the stations and on the train were always very polite. Loved these trains so much that we took a special trip to visit the Shinkansen Museum which was absolutely amazing.
My only annoyance when travelling sometimes was when the local people booked a window seat and pulled the blind down for the entire journey, therefore as a foreign visitor you could not view the beautiful country side. Why book a window seat if you don't want to look out!?

It was good value for us as we travelled the bullet train numerous times as well as other JR trains. It would be ideal if there was a 10 day pass as we were there for 10 days and the last 3 days we had to pay extra for our trains. JR pass does not work on the subway lines so be aware of this, we ended up getting a Suica pass on our iPhone wallet app and this worked very well. We also downloaded the app JapanTravel and you can incorporate your JR pass when selecting directions, this also gives you platform numbers and train names so we didn't get on the wrong trains.

Very easy to use once we arrived in Japan. Very helpful staff particularly at new Chitose Airport. Would use again. More escalators would be good to help with heavy luggage.

Informative website which had all the instructions required & advice to purchase within 3 months of travel, not before. Quick delivery with exchange voucher arriving by express post within a couple of days of ordering. Good information in the free Japan Rail Pass guide provided. JR rail pass easy to use in Japan & also allows travel on tourist buses in Hiroshima, the ferry to Miyajima & JR buses in Kanazawa. Reserved seats at no extra cost when booking tickets at JR offices. Definitely value for money if travelling round Japan.

It was not good value really for us. We travelled nagano-kyoto- tokyo. Too hard to use in Kyoto - ended up stressed, catching wrong trains. Not enough info on the web in English. Have used JR east before and was happy with that. Japan Pass was a waste of money

Useful and cost effective for the tourist utilising Japan's extensive rail system. The JR offices are located in stations all over the place and the staff are very helpful when trying to plan the best connections on this vast network.

I’m definitely advising everyone to get a JR pass when going to Japan and using PT. It would have cost us so much more if we had just paid trip by trip. Also this website (Japan Rail Pass Now) delivered my pass the next day when I ordered it (From Melbourne). Amazing.

Could not fault it. Easy to buy, even easier to book seats and fantastic value. The trains are great and I would certainly use again. Can I suggest you introduce a 10 day pass. I think it would fit a big gap as the14 day is too long

Very happy with the Japanese rail system and pass accessibility to parts of Japan. Book Shinkansen’s day prior to travel and you should be fine. Well worth it, can recommend.
