Amazing mower, love it - well exceeds my expectations.
Bought the Z915E 9 months ago. We have a rural block in the hills that had been badly looked after, rough and overgrown. Initially I used a tractor and heavy duty slasher for gradually been clearing/ tidying the small regrowth trees, weed entangled fences, long grass and wild vegetation and rocks in the approx 10 acres of non forested area. Once we’d got it semi-tamed and I went to mow the weeds down around the houses to start making it look neat, I realized that the slasher even on the lowest setting just couldn’t cut down to a lawn level. n the weeds were still standing. So we had to start thinking about buying a ride-on mower. I started from a zero knowledge base, and did a lot of research - visited dealers, read a lot on the net and spoke to quite a few people. We have a fair area to do, and with rocks and holes etc I decided to get something tough, with a long life span and the reviews of the JD units with the 7-Iron II deck were very positive. So I decided to spend up and get the Z915E which is the entry level into the commercial Z-track mowers. We’re all so impressed with this mower that we now can’t imagine being without it. First impression was how powerful and fast it is. I set about mowing a patch to get the feel of it, and couldn’t believe how much I got done in 20 mins or so. The other thing was that it coped with much thicker grass, and much rougher conditions, than I had expected. I was so stoked I kept going and after a few hours had mowed far more area on our place than I’d ever expected to be able to mow with the zero turn. It’s a dream to operate, my wife and kids or friends who visit really enjoy getting on and mowing when they visit. It’s so fast and maneuvrable and powerful that we now have much more area that looks like lawn rather than paddock. It's really responsive. Where there are rocks etc, it’s far quicker to dart around with the nimble mower compared to groaning around with the heavy big tractor and slasher. The way the wheels at the front of the deck roll up and over rocks means you can often roll straight over them - or if they’re big, pushing the pedal to lift the deck is easy. Maintenance is really simple. Being commercial-oriented, it’s really tough and meant to do lots of hours. The 24” wheels, bigger than anything else we’ve looked at, really help with the rough ground. You can really work it hard, smash it and bash it around, and it laps it up. I like the design - it seems well thought out. For example the big fuel tank with a really wide funnel-like filler cap spout that you can pour directly into from a jerry can without using a funnel. Really simple grease points. Really easy blade removal. Simple oil change. We’ve probably only done 25 hours on it but certainly nothing has gone wrong with it yet. Standard blades seem really durable, considering how much they get beaten up on the rocks. The mowing finish is (to me) insanely good, although when mowing tall dense paddock grass (setaria) it won't cut all the seed stalks ... nor will the slasher, that grass is really tough. Also even though this model doesn't have a mulching option, this mower seems to mulch the cut grass back in really well as we don't get marked windrows or clumps - it seems to spray the grass out really nicely and doesn't build up clumps. At this point in time I can’t fault it, can’t believe how much we get done with it in a short space of time, and love it. We got the standard pneumatic tyres but I've had a few flats now and although I can generally fix them easily with a cheap tubeless repair kit, it would be nice to have the more expensive punctureproof Tweel wheels.Similar opinion?
