are you getting enough fuel to run on or is gone. are the plugs wet when it quits . Now that could be fuel screen or something restricting the flow for continues running. Now it could be short burst of electricity. Other than that how is the compression. One last thing how is the air cleaner. I would like to hear what the problem is .

Good luck hope this well help.

Will a 2013 Kawasaki Vulcan 900 be able to keep up with a mc that I’m going to be joining they all go 80-80+ on the highway for long rides?

You will pushing it very hard mine runs 100mph but it takes a little time to reach not bad though. I would like to see little bigger bike. You'll be at close to high 7000 to 8000 rpms. So I'll let you go from there. Other than that you are ok. Nine only has 3600 miles on it may it gets better as miles add up.
Thank you for asking

What kind of mc are you joining that doesn't stipulate English/American bikes only?

Short answer, yes you can. Long answer, it's not the most comfortable, and the bike isn't designed for it.

Hi Everyone, can anyone tell me if you can swap out the rider foot pegs with aftermarket floorboards on a 2017 Vulcan 900 custom, and if so how hard is it to do? Also anyone know an actual store in Qld Australia that you can purchase Knee high (not over the knee) riding boots? I need a pair to use for riding as my right calf blisters on long rides. Thanks Shocky

I have an 08 Vulcan classic. I rode it two days ago and it seemed fine but today it wouldn't start and the battery seems to have been drained. I do have a boss 420b amp and speakers hooked up but I've had it for a while and haven't had any problems. It is connected properly to an accessory wire so it turns off when the bike does. My uncle tried his battery charger hook up and it fired right up then, when he disconnected it my bike stopped. I was rear ended two weeks ago in which my fender was broken and my right turn signal lamp was popped of the assembly but still connected wire wise and still works. Could it be that that light is causing a short or what else could it be?

Either your regulator or your stator is shot. I had to replace my stator after 40000 klms, doing the same thing as yours. Apparently it's quite a common problem, but seeing as it usually goes "out of warranty" the company never bothered to fix it.

Hi everyone
My Kawasaki VN fuel pump went so I ordered a new pump connected it all up and did I not see a small piece of plastic was missing near the pump wires so the bike shorted out. I had to get another complete pump with the ome or housing it sits iin and I blew one fuse being the pump fuse, so replaced it. Now when iv put it all back together the pump is making a continuous noice and still won’t kick over. The relay fuse looks ok to me however I do t know about the relay itself. What do u think guys?
Any help appreciated. Thanks

It's oil from the emissions system overflow...mine does the same thing..go on You tube and look for the video that shows a small fix for this by placing a hose into the drain hole inside the air filter cover..

I have a 2007 custom with a Cobra system and no baffler at all. Noisy as hell. Performance is still good. Only drawback is the backfire I got by deceleration . Need earplugs though when I drive .

What he said. Noisy as hell and you lose power. Engine revs free'r, as to be expected. Had Vance and Hines full exhaust on mine

Hi all just thought I would let everyone know that we had our vn900s debaffled and could not be happier. Better performance, certainly does not run as hot and better fuel consumption. Oh and they sound awesome.

Check the relay under the clutch lever as they wore out over time. The connector disengage the info to the starter motor that you are in neutral, therefore giving info that Bike is still in gear and stand is out.
Hope that helps

Hi Gary,
I'm not really a mechanic but, if you ran your tank really low before refilling, it could be a fuel blockage.

I am 6'1" and have had 3 sport bikes 2 600 cc one 750 cc I am looking for a cruiser is a 2014 Vulcan Custom 900 is this a good bike for my first cruiser and will I fit comfortably?

You should be comfortable on the VN900 Custom (I'm 6'). I think it's a good first cruiser for someone used to sports bikes because it's reasonably agile for a machine of this genre. Power as standard is...adequate. Two things I've added that I'm really happy with are a fly screen and a "plus 2-tooth" front pulley. Before the latter, I was always looking for a 6th gear that wasn't there.

Hek
Hek

I am 5'8" and find the positioning good. My son is 6'2" and was comfortable on a vulcan s 650 lams which has a very similar feel to the vulcan custom 900. Test ride is your best option. The vulcan custom handling can feel very light.

You may have to adjust the pegs but you would be ok if you did that.. Check out he Harley fat boy or outbreak. You can get a really good one second hand one and you would Fit better that's for sure.
I also had a look at the new indi store in canningvale it's where Harley Davidson use to be. Some good priced bikes there. And Indi is a good bike.

Hi all my partner and I are looking at getting the 2017 vulcan 900 custom, we both started on the vulcan 650's and love them. Wanted to know why they skipped the ABS on the 900? can you install abs or is it way over the top expensive? Also is it hard to get use to the skinny front tyre. thanks shocky

Hi Shocky, yes the vulcan s 650 Lams was a great bike to learn on. I certainly gave mine a tough time without any issues. Had to break hard one time. ABS releases the breaks to prevent skidding. The down side is stopping distance is now determined by ABS. Only just pulled up in time but awfully close to the vehicle in front of me. Didn't feel too comfortable with this. It is a progression as a rider, improving breaking skills. The vulcan 900 custom is very basic in my opinion but fun to ride. The skinny front tyre has a tendency to turn in particularly when slow riding. When parked, if you face the front wheel straight forward it will drop to the left on its own. Biggest issue for me was slow riding in a straight line. It didn't feel stable, difficulty maintaining a straight line, it feels very light. After attending an advanced roadcraft course was, happily, able to iron out instability problems. However, the upside is great handling through the twisties. It leans easily, meaning slow into corners, try not to back off on the throttle to maintain stability, then roll out. Hope this helps.

Hey stocky.
In my opinion you dont need Abs. It come down to how you ride the bike. As you would be aware when breaking hard i use 30% back breaks and 70% front. To give you an example i was at the lights a car hit me from behind which pushed me forward i slammed on my breaks using this method and stayed on the bike. I have also gone through a stop sign at 80 realized what i did slammed on the breaks again ans was ok. Slid straight. These bikes and any cruiser are bottom heavy so are easier to control . A sports bike is top heaver have way more speed hence needing a larger breaking system. Take one out for a good hours drive and then do the same with a bike that has abs breaks and make your own decision. See what you like.. the bigger the tyre the harder a bike is to contol. With fat tyres going around corners you will find the bike tries to pull you back up. Hope this helps. Ask me anything anytime.

Shocky
Shocky

Thank you Hek and Tammy, both your responses very welcome, I guess it will be just up to the test ride, just nervous given I have heard quite a few negatives in regards to the braking system and also the skinny front tyre and seeing as we have not ridden a bike set up like the 900 is makes for nervousness.

Got a brand new vulcan 900 custom 2016. 1400 klms on the clock. It vibrates above 120 klms/hr and when pushing through the gears. Is this part of the running in dilema or is it something else? The dealer doesn't seem too interested.

Hi Hek, now i noticed your talking in kilometers. Thats rare for me, normally its miles. Anyway my 2014 vn900 custom never had any vibration issues i mostly rode at 100km or sometimes 110 kph. Im amazed the dealer isnt interested, if your concerned that your views arent being listened to by your dealer. Call the national distributor for Kawasaki, list your issues be calm and relaxed. And they in turn should arrange for your dealer to take your issues seriously.

Hek
Hek

Thank you for your response. Did some further checking. 5000klms is about the distance at which vibration starts to subside. Fingers crossed. Will start doing some long rides and see how it goes from there. The vulcan is handling great as I become more accustomed to it. Slow riding will need some more practise due to the lightness of steering. Have got some long rides coming up in 2017. Will keep you posted

kind regards

I have a 2013 Vulcan 900 Custom Hek, and I'm having some vibrations running through the gears and once I hit a little over 70 mph...I'm not sure the kph. I had a mechanic today ride mine and he said it was pretty normal and shouldn't be a problem. He suggested a bigger pully for the lower RPMs.
