How do change oil in KIA carnivals?
1 answer
Its easy. Look at the book for the type of oil required. Go to repco and ask for a exact filter for your car if it is 3.8Lt like mine its about 20 bucks I think. Then purchase some oil. I use Castrol Magnatec as it complys with specs. The filter is just under the plastic engine cover. The cover is easy to remove. Just undo four small screws and you will find the filter housing. The engine oil drain plug is immediately under the engine. Get a jack or stands and raise you car to access the drain plug. Drain the oil for 20 minutes, change the filter (screw top). Do up the drain plug and top up with fresh oil. Start engine, run for 10 minutes. Turn it off, wait another 5 mins then test level on dipstick. Beats paying 300

I have just bought a 2005 Kia Carnival Ls, about 150 000 on the clock, it has a ticking sound and blowing smoke? What could be causing this? Read post about LPG conversion, would it be worth it? In Brisbane, reputable mechanics for this? Thanks
1 answer
Blowing smoke under acceleration usually points to defective or broken rings.burnt piston etc. Blowing smoke after a period of idling or on startup usually means valve stem seals. Is the smoke blue? if so that is engine oil. As for the ticking, that could be many things, but sounds like a replacement engine is warranted either way. I run my Carnival on LPG periodically, but not in hot weather. I think overloading the 2.5L engine while on gas in hot weather may result in a burned piston, as mine originally suffered.
I've now clocked up 12,000kms since rebuilding the engine and it purrs. Regular servicing is a definite key to a long engine life. Don't know of mechanics in Brisbane, but an engine replacement on top of a gas conversion may not be worthwhile financially.

I know the Honda oddessy has issues with anchor points for carseats being in the wrong place, rendering the backseats useless...does the Kia have any similar issues? How has everyone found the carnival with 2 or more car seats installed?
1 answer
I have 3 girls and had no problem with the car seat anchor points. Both in the 2nd and 3rd row. The Honda has a strange set up with the belt configuration. Probably as it does not have lap belts in the middle like the Carnival

I've had a carnival 2004 since new. Well maintained and service.the clutch only lasted 125k. The car is now on 177k. Is running very rough on high gear. Have to shift to lower gear very often on lower speed. Engine pings. New plugs and leads, new air flow meter. Runs fine when cold only for about 2 to 3 kms. No fault found on diagnosis. What can I do? Can't afford another car. Also this one still looking good and runs ok once it's very going. Any suggestions?

Hi Jean I'm not a mechanic but the ping noise maybe a fuel problem. The car sounds like it has been good for a long time and that is positive but I might be tempted to take it to a mechanic outside a Kia dealer as they tend to only know how to diagnose by computer and not by ear as older mechanics can do. Sorry this is not much help I hope you can resolve the problem soon. Regards Gina
The ping is petrol related i have a 2000 model wont run on 91 needs 95 or 98 octane or else gets the ping noise also known as a knock

please can you help me to write to me the faults instead of the errors and what is the problem of it?
1 answer
Sorry, but I,m only experienced with the 2.5 KV6 petrol engine...It may be a pump problem..did you bleed the system after changing the engine. It may not be due to any error codes. I cannot be of more help than that. Why not have a talk with your local dealer? Cheers.

What can be done to my via carnival 1999model that stop working. The engine still in good conditions but refuse to start.when diagnosed shows replacement of ignition and programmed key
1 answer
Sounds like an electronic fault in the ignition system and as it is computerised it will need the new ignition system and the new key to be programmed to work together to start your car. If your car is still in good working order it is worth taking the advice given. There are no alternative ways to repair all the modern cars where computer chips are installed. Hope you are able to get on the road again soon.

I had the timing belts changed in my 2003kia carnival at 90000kms and at 150000kms .
The belt broke and suspect this belt was not changed. How can I prove they did not replace it? I need help any ideas?
1 answer
Have u keep the receipts for the job done by the mechanic !! If so enquiries with them n the consumer affair .Have good look at the broken belt, if it's brand new, its easy to identified whether it's been replace by ur mechanic, compare with an unbroken belt at the shop .
