Great car for the large family!
Our family were looking to replace a 7 seat vehicle which had become too small for us and we decided that a people mover was needed. We looked at several options, including those from Hyundai, Honda, Citreon and Toyota but in the end settled on the Kia Carnival. You will have likely heard horror stories about some Kia Carnivals, but these were released to Australia before Kia really got its act together in terms of servicing the Australian market. The new Carnival is nothing iike its namesake from more than a decade ago.
One of the factors w...Read more
hich helped us choose the Carnival was Kia's 7 year warranty. There is great piece of mind knowing that for 7 years if there are any problems we just return to the dealer and it gets fixed. However having now had our Carnival for more than a year I am happy to report there have been absolutely zero issues with the car. We almost purchased the previous version of this vehicle, the Grand Carnival, but by the time we got around to looking into it that model was quite dated. The same cannot be said for the current Kia Carnival. It has had a total redesign and has a very modern feel about it, from the front grill to the internal instrumentation to the sunken boot at the back. The only thing which was slightly disappointing compared to the Grand Carnival is that the second row of seats cannot be fully removed, however they do fold right up and still allow a lot of cabin space should you need to move something or bring that new purchase home from the shops. Overall we cannot fault our new Kia Carnival. It drives beautifully, doesn't feel as heavy as it is on the road and after you get used to its size is actually quite easy to park. The only down side is that the 3.3L V6 is quite thirsty when it comes to fuel consumption but if you are looking for a vehicle of this size then that should be expected.Similar opinion? Fantastic car, very stylish on the higher models
Bought the SLI version of this car in black. They look very stylish inside and very comfortable. Got the Diesel version which gets good mileage, however we expected better than what we are getting. The specs say that the minimum range is around 850 which we are only just getting this. Hopefully that will increase but a great car overall

Truly amazing family mover... don't compromise with 7 seater SUV
Very happy with this non-European car!
Traded in our used car for Carnival SLi model 2.2 turbo diesel.
Very thoughtful design, space, and practical features.. Diesel drives better and recommend metallic & rubber mats in options.
See John-Paul at Tom Kerr Kia Ryde for a Deal.. amazing sales guy!
Kia has really surprised us in a good way with 7yr warranty, capped service, and 24/7 road side assist.
So glad we didn't buy CX-9 for the only reason to fit 2 car seats in the 3rd row (Carnival satisfies this requirement but finding compact seats may be an issue).
Must admit “Agree” to media terms every time before I can start using it is annoying. And looking up phone numbers in Driver display would have been great too.

Fits the whole family
Have had the car since new and it’s been amazing. Love the power sliding doors. Easy to get the family in and out of. Big boot space even with a pram in the back. I can fit all my shopping and still have room.
Love that I can still use the back seats even with 2 car seats in the middle row.

Absolute Pleasure
We are a big little family with 5 kids. 1 a toddler and 1 a baby. We liked the fact that the middle seat could be removed in the Kia so went to test drive one. Over the years I've owned many many cars, of all shapes and sizes. I can say hands down the most pleasurable to own car I have ever had. The build quality is equal if not better than the Audi we traded it for. Maybe not quite as comfortable, but half the price tag and is just so big and roomy I don't even notice. The way the kids can stream in the car from either side and jump straight up the back and not having to climb over things to get in is just so handy. Love love love it!!

Great Quality, Safe and Reliable Amazing Family Car!
After owning the Platinum Diesel for about +6 months now!
My wife and I think this is possibly the best family car we have ever owned.
After lots of research on the best car for us 4 kids, 2 adults we were not limited for choice of 7 seaters and we never thought KIA would be a brand for us! But I have to say, and I am a bit of a car nut! The quality is outstanding!
We had a strict budget and was able to get a great deal from Danny Saada at Great Western KIA in Penrith, you must go down and see him!
Anyway, the platinum model has the...Read more

GREAT 8 SEATER
The best 8 seater there is for value for money and in gold looks great.the only thing I didn't like was the 2 rear sets were put closer together and called 3 seats in the rear. CON and the front fog lamps had dummy bulbs CON for the price of 2 bulbs did spoil the deal. But the rest was great big heaps of room nice fresh light look of interior passenger trays cup holders 12v adaptors everywhere the seats don't drop into the floor like the grand but for the extra cost was not worth it.Only sold it as we had no use of 8 seats using only 5 for 3yrs.top mover and the new style looks even better Kia rocks

Could be a good family vehicle but reliability and warranty repairs an issue
Upgraded the from the old model Carnival and are still having issues since we received the car. The sliding doors have been problematic since the first day and 45,000km's later we are facing another family holiday with dodgy doors. Every time we visit the dealer we need to bring back again to try get it fixed, if we can prove it is actually not working. That is despite showing videos of our experience! Kia policy (as explained by dealer and Kia service centre) is any major warranty repairs requires Kia to check/ do something which means two vis...Read more
its to get warranty repairs. With a 40 minute drive to the dealer and the dealer only opening when I normally start work it has been highly frustrating and time consuming. From other reviews if you get an issue free car, you will love it. For those of us who haven't it pretty much has been frustrating from day 1. Pros Good family car - plenty of space and removing the middle seat provides easy access to the rear row Fold down the rear seats, or even one section as they are split, to increase storage space. Great for long trips. Good drive for a big car Stylish design, navigation is easy to use and sound is clear for music Reverse camera is excellent1 comment

Perfect for bigger families
We purchased a diesel 2017 model and it is unbelievable how great it is on fuel can get roughly 800 km out of a tank it accommodates our family of six easily. It has electric doors which can be operated by button which is perfect in wet weather the doors can be opened before you are at the car making it easy to get the little ones in quickly. It's ver easy to drive and for a bigger car easy to park with reversing camera.

Good car when it runs
We were happy with our choice looked at many cars and found the Kia carnival was wider and could accommodate the whole family and pets I'll start with the PROS:
. Seats fold from back and middle rows allowing plenty of room for items, dog crates etc, fits 3 child seats in the middle row, only fit 2 child seats at the back. Front seats have plenty of room.
. The side door is solid, hit a kangaroo on one side and it popped back out like nothing happened.
. Smooth to drive, handles well on the road.
. Can sleep in the car with the seats down, plenty of room.
. Stylish design, navigation is easy to use, sound is clear for music and the DVD player is awesome when camping.
. Reverse camera is excellent
. Economical
CONS: ...Read more
. Although it comes with a 7year warranty it will only last you until the car hits 200,000ks . servicing is expensive at $500-$800 per service with log book to keep your warranty. . This car did break down within 3months since purchase in the middle of no where because the sump plug came out when it was serviced by John McGrath and we were left with a broken down car for 3 months as the dealership tried to avoid replacing a new engine for $30,000! They eventually did put a new engine in it but i feel it doesn't drive as well as it used to e.g the acceleration . We got the paint and interior protection plan with this car, the seats are stained and can't remove them, so the interior protection is rubbish. The clear coat protection however is good it adds an extra layer to protect the paint. . The interior near the gearbox, navigator and speedo scratches very easily. . The Kia accessories are really expensive As we drive a lot mainly highway ks we should have got something that will stay more in value as the more ks these cars have the less you will get for it when you decide to sell.Similar opinion? Exactly what we need
*I have only had this car two months*
So far I love it. With the last row of seats down there is plenty of room for my two big dogs (Great Dane) and still comfortably sit 5 people. With the back row up there is still good boot space for shopping, storage, etc.
I have come from driving a very small car and find this handles very well. It is very easy to drive. You don't feel like the car is going to fall over going around a corner. The rear camera and parking sensors help a lot if you are not confident reversing a big car.

of room in this car. The middle row slides forward/back so leg room is adjustable for the middle and back rows. We havent yet this car full of adults, but it seems it wouldn't be unreasonably squashy. Leather seats make for very easy cleaning, even with a baby. Speaking of babies, the car seat anchor point in the middlr row is on the back of the seat, not the floor, so you can still slide the seats forward. Sliding doors are big but open and close easily. 7 year warranty and 7 year roadside assistance (as long as you keep up with the servicing, which is only once a year and capped price - they showed us the pricing schedule before we bought the car) is fantastic as this is a car we are planning on keeping a long time.Similar opinion? Must have for a growing family !
"Spacious" is the word to describe this car. Lot of space even after you have all three rows in use. I can easily fit atleast 10 camping chairs, baby pram, esky, grocery bags, kids outdoor toys- scooters, footballs, cricket bats, still lot of space left.
All three rows can accommodate adults. Very comfortable to travel. Easy to get into the third row. Your kids will love this car. If you are looking for seven seater, try this car too before you make your mind. Most of the time, kids end up in third row, so ask them to try third row and share ...Read more

Fabulous car
Drives like a dream. Reverse camera, front and rear sensors. The electric doors and tailgate are rea,ly handy. We have 4 kids so need the space. Leather seats are great for keeping clean too.
Only negatives I can think of are that the radio doesn't display the name of the song playing, and that there are only 2 anchor points in the very back. One on the left and one in the middle. If there's only 2, it would be better on the left and right and leave the middle free.

Far superior to the earlier model-hugely improved.
Bought it in 2013 with 60,000km on the clock. I was reluctant to even look at another Carnival after owning a 2001 model. However the wife liked it, the kids liked it and so we took one for a test-drive. Then I liked it. The big 3.9 litre V-6 is a good, strong motor, the gears (auto) are very smooth, it has a lot of little items that are luxuries, abundant cup-holders, sunnies storage, extra little glove boxes, power outlets in the rear, DVD player in the roof with wireless headphones, electric and remotely operating sliding doors, leather seat...Read more
s all-round, opening windows on the sliding doors (which the earlier model did not have) and opening windows for the back row. The rear seats fold down flat to make a big cargo bay, but even with them up there is still a sizable luggage area, with the well into which the rear seats fold. The middle row of seats individually tumble forward to make the cargo area even bigger and then they can easily be removed entirely by pulling the release, to make a huge cargo area! The 3.9 litre v-6 has huge grunt, a VAST improvement on the 2.5 in the earlier Carnival. The car overall feels so much more solid and well-built when compared to the earlier model, and overall much smoother ride, having 16" wheels. The car has, so far, been very reliable, with minor problems of the steering fluid leaking (very slowly, but enough to leave an oil stain on the drive after a few months) and some of the suspension bushes worn and rattling (replaced), and minor problems with the electric sliding doors not quite working as they should (cannot use the remote button to open or close them- a problem with the electric door-locking actuators which is quite expensive to fix). This is not a sports car and does not corner, brake or accelerate like a sports car, however, considering the size of the vehicle, it does get along OK and when lightly loaded it still accelerates surprisingly fast. A major dislike is the "Space-saver" spare wheel. On a recent trip into the country I carried two full-sized spares (one on a roof-rack, one in the back), as on a previous trip I blew a tyre only 15 km onto the dirt of a 270km trip and was very nervous about the space-saver wheel being destroyed on the dirt (turned around back to the nearest town and bought a new tyre). A minor annoyance is that the driver's seat doesn't quite go back far enough for me (I'm 183cm tall). Another annoyance is the aerial inbuilt into the side window, AM radio reception is awful, even in the city, with lots of interference and noise. FM reception seems much better. For a 2010 car, there is no blue-tooth or navigator system, but these are relatively cheap to install now. We have done a number of long-distance country drives and it gets about 12 litres per 100km at a steady 110 Kph. Around town is a little more, at 15 L/100km, so a bit thirsty, but not unexpectedly so for a tall, heavy car. I occasionally use it to tow a heavy trailer, with no problems.Similar opinion? Good deal
We are expanding our family and had been looking for different types of 7 seats car for nearly half year until we noticed Kia carnival. Good value. But not big fan of the outlook. But what I can expect for 7 seats car with good capacity. It's really easy for my elderly parent to get on and off it as it is good height

If you got a big family, this is your bus
Well, it's a ‘Bus’, I'm not going to talk about performance here, but the handling is pretty good considering the size of this car.
Just gone to oversea for a holiday, 4 adult + 2 kids + 9 piece 23KG luggage +6 carry on +3 hand bags.
sounds like mission impossible but he did it beautifully.
it's a platinum, so it got all the feature you expected. 360 bird view is the most important and really help feature.
Smart follow is great on the highway.
heated seat / cool seat make you it's a piece of luxury.
Like I said, if you got a big family, this is a must consider!

Best family car purchase!
This car is the most luxurious car I have ever driven in my life and I can't believe it is our brand new family vehicle. The platinum is worth every cent. There are so many features that I think it will take me a year to figure out how to use them. The best features are the powered side doors and tailgate. This car makes our family trips so much easier because it is so easy to get the kids in and out. There is also so much room and it is an absolute pleasure to drive. The dashboard camera is a life saviour. It gives you a top down 360 degree vi...Read more
ew which makes parking this beast a cinch! This is our first Kia purchase and I am so impressed. The diesel turbo has plenty of torque and is great off the start. Have only had it for a few weeks and love driving in it. Highly recommend this for families who need 4 child seats. We have 4 kids who are all under 6 and there is still plenty of room with all the kids in. Also having a 5 star safety ANCAP rating is what made our decision in the first place. Kia have done a great job and we can't recommend it enough.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Best Family Car
I was reluctant to move from my usual European 7 seater 4WD to a people mover but I'm so glad I did. I cannot believe the space, comfort, features and price of this car compared to everything else on the market. The price was a bonus! We have three adult sized teens and regularly have extra adults/teens in the car and still have plenty of boot space. My only complaints are that as I have the platinum, I feel a couple of standard features are missing such as auto wipers and no "permanent" clock. I lose the clock on the screen when using other functions. Also Kia delivery and service departments aren't as polished as others I've used but I can live with that.

A people mover with style and functionality!
Kia have designed a really functional family vehicle and packaged it in a stylish body with a powerful engine.
I am honestly amazed at the power and comfort of this 2 tonne people mover. The diesel engine is smooth and quiet and is capable of surprising acceleration. The drive is very smooth and handling for such a large vehicle is great.

Kia has also been very smart with the interior features. Things a big family need have been thought about. Lots of cup holders and storage. Multiple USB points throughout. A MASSIVE boot. Tri zone Climate control. Electric everything. Big windows to look out. Flexible seating options and arrangements. Expandable boot. Even simple things like an extra rear view mirror built in to keep an eye on the kids in the back. Up front the driver has everything at their fingertips (literally). Steering wheel controls for all the important things and a dashboard with sat nav and DVD player.1 comment

My 05 Kia was working fine than I put degresser on the motor and a bucket of water over it. Bt problem is now the damn thing won't fire. It cranks over bt wont fire.
Checked all the fuse none are blown. Any ideas pls would help me out alot.
1 answer
Depends on the engine type.
In general, water may be stopping the proper spark from occurring.
Water & electronics don't mix.
If it's a petrol engine, remove each spark plug cap, at each end on the lead, one at a time, and use CRC or RP7 to spray inside the plug cap before putting it back. Don't allow excess fluid to sit in the cap.
Then, using the CRC/RP7, spray any other exposed electrical connection that may have collected water.
By now, the engine may have already dried off & started working.

What causes a Kia carnival to cut off fuel and spark?
1 answer
I assume by your question that you have a petrol (not diesel) Carnival.
This sort of issue is likely to be generic to any modern vehicle.
As it is effecting fuel & spark, Its could be ECU or a sensor. Best way to find out is with a diagnostic unit.
Obviously Kia will have one, but I don't know if other tuners will have access.
