Hi Jacki,

It looks like an unusual problem. Haven't heard of it earlier. You should get it inspected as it is not the default behavior of the doors.

Got it checked by kia. To remove & replace catch & release cables they quoted me:
$767 parts
$357 labour.
Plus the $104 to diagnose the problem.

take it to a reputable mechanic if it's out of warranty, could be intermediate shaft or just need the power steering fluid replaced and topped up to the correct level

Thanks
I am just trying to sort out my warranty and I think it is a little more serious tha power steering fluid, maybe intermediate shaft but will do thanks for the feedback

Kia gave me a new car warranty on my demo now they will not honour that warranty or cover the problem it is a cheap little plastic piece in the steering column that has been recalled overseas but not here the service manager did not even touch my car as he said he knew what it was and was under recall, but in his email changed to he had to fi d out! Had another person with me! But no luck there!

Theo, I have seen such a problem and I had that many years ago in my Valiant Charger, normally it is caused through the plastic becoming dry and brittle; I was told by a mechanic that I should use a soft damp cloth and clean the dash at least once a week; there was at one time a special fluid that can be used to stop this brittleness, but that was years ago!

On modern cars, anything like this is either cause by direct sunlight or by constant heat; I think a trip to Autobarn might help, they are always cluey when it comes to these things.

I have 2010 Cerato and mine recently started to stall when I would start it, then it progressed to stalling whilst driving where I could only drive 20-30m before it would cut out and I would have to remove the key before restarting. Kia have replaced the computer at $2900 and I am due to pick it up.

I own a 2011 KIA Cerato S Auto Sedan, with odometer at 60000kms (bought it a year back). I am getting mileage in range of 10-11L/100km. I drive it mainly for short trips on weekends in Hurstville/Kogarah suburbs with occasional drives on A3 and M4. AC usage is 30% of the times and I use ULP. Serviced as per schedule and have never driven it rough. In last one year drove around 3000kms only.

Do you think it is decent mileage as per my circumstances? If not, what could be the issue?

Hi Jessy. That is a little higher than expected, given that the official comparison rating is 7.7L/100km for mixed driving. With a lot of city driving you always expect to get higher consumption than the published figure, so I don't think there is a major issue. You have Sports mode and Normal transmission mode available on that car so check that it is in Normal. The second thing I would do is set all the cold tyre pressures a little higher, to 34PSI. It will give you slightly better economy with no real difference in ride comfort. Next check that the brake pads are not touching the discs and holding you back. If you have had the brakes done recently, which is usual around your odometer reading, sometimes they are put in a bit tight with the clearances too low. You could do 5 or 6 hard stops from 60kph and see if you can wear the high spots off. (Check that there is no-one behind you first!)
With your low annual driving it is probably not worthwhile getting a full 4 wheel alignment since it would cost more than any potential savings. Save this for next time you replace the tyres.

Jessy
Jessy

Thanks for the reply.

I do drive in normal mode only. No brake related work has been done since I bought the car, so don't think that would an issue.
Tyre pressure is kept at 32psi, will try with 34psi,as suggested. Since my drive is very less so it will be long before I can consume another tankful to get results. Will update once I have them.

In the meanwhile other suggestion are welcome.

Jessy. We have the same model, we run 38 psi in the tyres,AC won't these days has very minimual impact on motor, also we run 98 octane fuel, better mileage and cleaner engine. Cheers.

Hi Everyone, I have a Kia Cerato 2012 limited edition extra and I have had endless issues since the car was 3 months old with headlights blowing - every 4- 6 months . I have been to 4 different dealerships all with different auto elecs and no one can find the issue . The Kia USA forums also report the same issues - why hasn't there been a recall ?? Today the Kia auto electrician also noticed that the headlight protectors were also melting - from the inside !! We have tried replacing all the globes, re earthing . Has anyone else had the issued fixed - and if so / what dealership ?? I'm willing to travel !! Thanks Angie

Hi Angie, this sounds terrible. Keep pushing Kia to fix it or go to the ACCC and write a complaint to the Ombudsman and let this department help you. The issue should have been fixed a long time ago. My problem was never sorted.
I didn't keep mine long enough to notice this problem as I didn't do much night driving. Good luck!

Hi Faye, it sounds like the switch/controller is malfunctioning on your thermostat on or behind your dashboard.....your car should still be under new car warranty so get Kia to fix it. In the meantime, try turning everything off...put your internal dash dial to cold, then turn your air con switch on....see if that helps.

My wife’s Kia Cerato has done approximately 92, 000 km’s and has had an oil consumption problem for some time. The KIA dealer is Bedggoods Kia, Ballarat.
I have documented evidence that the car in question is using between 3-4 litres of engine oil every 10, 000 km’s.

I am quite sure that such a high level of engine oil assuage way exceeds emission control guidelines.

As the car is still under warranty, I have requested that the car be fixed but this request has been denied by the local dealership. I was told that KIA Inc. will not repair a car under warranty unless the car’s oil loss is 1 litre per every 1,500 km’s travelled.
My wife's car is over serviced and using oil within KIA guidelines.
My question to this is "KIA currently advertises it has "a 7 year warranty (Mine is actually 5 years) and advertises this as an assuring point to purchase their cars: How can this company offer such a reassurance, when it is not worth the paper it is written on?

My 2011 Cerato had not used any oil between oil changes and I think yours must have a problem.
Having had dealings in the past with other car manufacturers I would call Kia customer care or whatever the they call it and make a loud complaint and don't stop complaining until something is done! If you make enough noise and won't go away they will end up doing something especially if you threaten to put out a public post on face book asking if there are any other owners with s similar problem! Just don't give up if it is as bad as that it can't be okay.

My 2015 Kia Cerato SLI started to use oil. I went to the dealer that services my car and the head mechanic suggested that I wasn't using the correct petrol. He said the car was built to run on high octane unleaded (95 or 98) anything less will lead to a carbon built up. Since then and changing petrol I havent had an issue.

You're probably looking at a TD model whereas mine is the later YD, so cannot advise, but make sure all general checks are made and the motoring club in your state is the best for advice. Also Google up used car reviews for the year model car you're looking at., generally however, from what I've gleaned from these reports they seem to be fairly reliable.
