I bought this phone 5 years ago. It didn't work. We had two replacements but they kept flashing blue/red then nothing.
Was wondering if they had improved at all over the years?

Does the phone have "speaker phone" available? Can the user dial a normal numeric number or would they need a second phone with numeric keypad to do this?

Good morning Ken
I don't think the phone had a speaker in it.
The 6 or 7 number in the phone are all preset by KISA when you buy the phone. The number we chose are immediate family - doctor and ambulance.
Its very expensive to use as a normal phone - You 6 minutes per MONTH.
Its perfect for incoming calls.
It does NOT come with a normal keypad.
These items may have changes since we cancelled out service with KISA.

No, I don’t think there’s a ‘speaker’ button. My Mum has a lot of trouble hearing me. She is partially deaf in one ear, so I have to tell her to change ears so she hears better. When I was there a couple of weeks ago I didn’t notice any ‘speaker’ button. Just the volume button.

She’s unable to dial any number she wants, just the specified telephone numbers/ with associated names or photos that go with them. If you go onto the KISA website, it tells you in the setup the selection of numbers you can have. So NO, Mum can’t dial any number she wants or receive messages.
I hope this is of some help to you.

thanks for the answers, we are assuming two phones would be needed for my elderly aunt who likes to use a key pad as well as liking the idea of a KISA style phone.

Can volume be adjusted on Kisa phone? Dad having trouble hearing me.

Hello Karen:

Yes, the volume on the Kisa can be adjusted. I forgot to mention this in my review. There is a rocker switch on the back of the unit, which can adjust the volume up or down.

The rocker switch clicks forwards or backwards. It sits vertically on the back side of the phone. Below the volume control are located the emergency button, plus the switch which disconnects the unit from the battery.

I hope this helps.

Peter walsh.

Hi Karen,

Yes volume can be adjusted by pressing + and - on the phone.

If you are not near your dad's phone you can contact us and we can bump volume to maximum remotely.

Also if your dad is reducing volume accidentally often, we can lock volume to maximum.

Just call KISA on 1300 557 453 or complete the following https://www.kisaphone.com.au/contactus.aspx

Kind regards

KISA

Not that I’m aware of. The photo is very basic (which is the purpose). But I guess you could clarify this answer through Kisa.

What network do KISA use if you subscribe to their phone plan service? (Vodaphone, Telstra or Optus). I'm asking because we have poor Telstra and Vodaphone coverage in our location but reasonable Optus. Is anyone having issues with the KISA phone since the 2G network has been closed down?

Hi Beau, KISA Phone operates on 3G (WCDMA) 850/900/1800/1900 and 2100 frequencies. If you have better coverage with Optus then we would recommend going with BYO SIM option as KISA only provides plans that utilise Telstra or Vodafone networks.

The KISA phone has a built in loudspeaker for the hearing impaired or those who want to operate the phone without holding it to their face.

There is also a dedicated headphone jack for those who prefer to use earphones.

Hi Lyn, another option would be to get an external loud speaker and plug it in to headphone jack. Have a look at this http://www.sony.com.au/local/product/srs-x11

how do i put my own sim in the phone

Hi Robyn,
You can't put a different sim in it. The contact names are fixed and printed on cheap tacky card stuck to the phone. If one of the contacts changes their phone number you have to contact KISA to get them to alter it. I really do hope you buy this phone - the reception is appalling and the phone makes dndless unnecessary beeps and noises that utterly confuse the elderly. We threw ours in the garbage when we closed the account because you cannot re-use it like a normal phone and in any case the garbage is where it belongs.

The new model allows you access to the SIM so you can change it easily. Also the online account allows you to update or change contact numbers. However if you need to change the name on the phone case you would need to purchase a new case. Otherwise you can just use labels to cover old names.

Hi Robyn, inserting your SIM card in to the current KISA Phone model is very simple, you don't need special tools or anything like that. Just lift the back panel and remove battery and you will see SIM card slot. KISA Phone takes standard SIM card size (2FF)

Is there any chance of it making a phone call accidentally if buttons are knocked in a handbag? Someone above stated that the 000 button needed to be pushed 4 times to connect the call - is that really obvious, of will the user just push it once and presume that it's not working?

Dad wears his phone on a lanyard, he sometimes dialled a number when he bends over or leans against something. That's the old model, the current model has modifications & settings you can change to stop this happening. ie, they can adjust pressure needed to make a call or require 2presses to make a call. You can also change the 000 button setting, to just one press if desired.

Dad has only just got this model, so don't know if we need to have any settings changed yet. Dad hasn't made any accidental calls yet, but it's nice to know if he does we can change the settings to stop it happening.
