Hi can someone explain to me the difference between kitchenaid mixer food processor attachment vs slicer/ shredder rotor attachment?

Hi Jo, The main difference is that the food processor has one dicer, but has an adjustable slicer. This is different to the rotor shredder which is just one slicer thickness and two size graters.

Hi, if i purchase the kitchenaid artisan mixer, does it slice, grate and mince as well as the kitchenaid food processor? I saw the demo video online that it can crush ice too. Is that true?

Hi Caroline, our Mixer's themselves do not do the things you have listed, but our attachments which you can purchase and use with the Stand Mixer certainly can. From what you have asked I can recommend the food processor attachment, the slicer/shredder attachment and the mincer/grinder attachment. You can find all of these and more on our website here; https://kitchenaid.com.au/products/stand-mixer-attachments

KSM150 Artisan

I have an Artisan 5KSM150 which has a brownish substance leaking/seeping from the head of the unit particularly around the silver nameband & from where the spindle that the beater attaches to goes into the top of the mixer. It has an oil appearance, but doesn't have an oily feel.
The unit has always been cleaned throughly before being stored & has been in storage for a year or so. There is no unusual noise.
As I live a substantial distance from the closest service centre, I'm hoping you could give me an idea of where to start.
Thanks in advance

This sounds like gear grease leaking. When the mixer is under heavy use or after a period of storage, the grease on the gears (at the top of the unit) separates and the thinner material can run out at the lowest point. It won't affect use as long as the gears don't sound grinding or noisy, there's a LOT of grease packed in there!
Just give it a good run at different speeds for around ten minutes and be sure to start at low speed. Do this before you use it under load to distribute grease through all of the gears. After you done this wipe everything down really well and it should be fine. It may continue to leak a small amount but as long as it's not a huge amount, there shouldn't be any problems.
If it persists and/or it affects use, you can have the gears repacked with grease. If you need to save the money and it's out of warranty (and you know someone a bit mechanically minded), there's a good instructional YouTube video on how to do it yourself, just google 'repacking grease KitchenAid mixer'.
Hope this helps (and no, I don't represent KitchenAid, just a happy long term owner).

Hi, I was wondering if the Kitchen Aid Artisan is available too but I. Australia in Imperial Grey? The closest I can find is Cocoa Silver which looks more brown than greys. Love the matte grey that's in the mini but don't think it's available in the artisan. Medallion silver also looks great, but only available in the Platinum. I look forward to hearing from you :)

KSM150 Artisan

Hi. What is the difference between the 175 and 125 Stand mixers? They both say they are 4.8l Artisan Stand Mixers. I can't see the difference except that the 175 is at least £50 more expensive. I was hoping for the Candy Apple red, which is only available on the more expensive model, rather than the Empire Red, which is only available on the cheaper one. I'm not sure I'm willing to pay that much extra just for a slightly different shade of red though! Does anybody know how they're different? Thanks

1 answer
KitchenAid
KitchenAid A.KitchenAid

The KSM150, KSM160 and KSM156 all have the same direct drive motor and wattage of these machines is 300 watts. The only difference between machines is the colour range and accessories included. The Candy Apple Red only comes in the Platinum range (KSM156) with the Glass Bowl. The difference between this colour and the Empire Red is slight, however the Candy Apple Red is a deeper red. Another difference regarding colour selection is that the platinum range feature a two-coat metallic finish that the KSM150 and 160 do not. The KitchenAid KSM150,160 and 156 have a direct drive motor and does not have any belts in the motor making the stand mixer more energy efficient and quieter. A belt drive motor will drop in wattage during use where the direct drive motor has constant wattage during use i.e. the direct drive motor will not fluctuate in wattage during use. A direct drive mechanism is one that takes the power coming from a motor without any reductions such as a gearbox for example. Some of the advantages of a direct drive motor are increased efficiency, reduced noise, longer life as having fewer parts also means it is less prone to failure, high torque at low rpm, faster and precise positioning and drive stiffness which means mechanical backlash, hysteresis and elasticity is removed avoiding use of gearbox or ball screw mechanisms. The maximum capacity for any bread doughs in these machines are 1.12kg combined weight. Hope this helps! Kind Regards, The KitchenAid Team.

Hi Efrat, the KSM15, KSM110, KSM103, KSM75, KN15 are not models sold in Australia therefore we cannot guarantee attachments for these models are compatible with the KSM150. Models and parts that are purchased overseas are also unfortunately not covered by warranty in Australia. The product code for a wire whisk for the KSM150 is K45WW and the RRP is $39.00. On low it's pretty quiet, and I guess on high much noisier. I've heard some very high pitched mixers and my Artisan isn't one of those. It's a solid sounding machine- hope this helps?

Charmaine

I have never considered my KitchenAid noisy. On low it is pretty quiet and obviously if on top speed of 10 it becomes a louder whizzing sound but nothing I would consider noisy. The loudest it got was when it was kneading dough and even though it was noting like I have heard from other machines. It's a very solid, sturdy piece of equipment but then you would expect that from an $800 machine. Hope this helps you :-)
