Great vehicle pity Land Rover Australia doesn’t perform as well
Have a 2010 tdv6 and for the main we love it. Have had the transmission sump replaced to allow servicing, fitted a water watch, bull bar, roof rack and replaced the front lower control arms. Biggest beefs are the lack of map upgrades and JLR Australia call centre and their total lack of product knowledge. Also buy my parts from uk as they are about 2/3 cheaper than oz even with freight. Why should we be paying premium prices for a bunch of suites in a flash head quarters. also use British off road north of brisbane they know their product and reasonable with prices.

Exelent, but...
Great car, does everything it should. Well almost; Style is great, Finish is great. Interior is a little cheap for a car of this caliber. Performance & Economy is brilliant. Puts a smile on you're face and keeps you safe while entertained. Road or Off-road = no complaints. Tyre choice & Wheel size is suitable for Road only but gives better Off-road than most would expect (would be brilliant with proper off-road tyre's). Only faults in Design or options, I consider: to be the Infotainment system. The Stereo sounds Brilliant but is dated in...Read more
design and user I/F. Complex Tech in design (as is car) but has poor user I/F of Navigation & Voice Recognition, clunky button/operation. Generally not friendly to use. (Map DVD's are not current enough). Mechanically & Electrically, this is a complex car. Some design aspects are more complex than needed. Most items are there for a reason and Designed that way for good reason (may not always be apparent though). Generally, this is a difficult car to work on, then to add, Land Rover if there is an easy way, they wont choose it? Great but difficult to work on, read expensive. Unless you do your own maintenance & repair. Very do-able but will need understanding and patience. This is where, I think Land Rover themselves fall down. Big $$$ for Repairs and Service, but worth it if done properly. Unfortunately the dealers here in OZ want easy $$$ and a quick turn around. I also question their understanding. Trained Tech's work on you're car, but Mechanics or Diagnosticians, I think not? Some faults can be complex and these Tech's mostly follow a Flow Chart with some training. This is my 3rd Land Rover product and I will buy again, all have been good vehicles. Land Rover service is honest, especially when compared with competitors. But we ask a lot in service & design. That cost's $$$. If you cut corners to save $$$, Long term some-one will loose. That is usually the Customer, some time down the track and that is where most problems lie. So the point is to buy the best you can afford. Then get a competent Mechanic and take no short cuts.

The good and bad
Great to drive the tdv8 non better but I wish Land Rover would get the reliability correct before putting more gadgets on the cars to go wrong
I've had the sway bars replaced, struts replaced, auto transmission replaced, oil leak on tappet covers, that's a 10 hour job numerous split hoses causing all types of faults
Don't believe the sales people saying auto is a lifetime fill, have it fully serviced every 60-80k or you will need a new trany soon
I'd love to go around Australia soon but don't know if it's reliable enough as there is not too...Read more

What a lemon
Brought the 2012 autobiography brand new for 150k, it was nothing but trouble it made all sorts of horrible noises from new and they couldn't find the problem so to them it didn't exist, then one month after the 3 year warranty ran out the front airbag blew and they tried to stitch me up, I made the biggest scene and said I would go all the way to the top and they said out of compassionate grounds they will fix it!
I now have a land rover sport half the price and twice the car!

Fabulous car
I have now owned a 3rd hand 2008 Range Rover Sport for almost a year. For me this was a significant upgrade from my 1989 Ford Maverick and what a gorgeous vehicle it is.
I did a fair bit of research before buying and found out the the Range Rover Sport is actually not just a rich boys show car, it is actually also one of the most capable offroad machines around. It's Terrain Response system has been tested and highly rated by many over the years and is only surpassed now by Terrain Response II in the new Land rovers.
Mine has the 2.7litre Tur...Read more

Vehicle continues to provide immense satisfaction
Having owned this 2009 R/Rover Sport V8 diesel for just on 12 months, it never ceases to provide immense driving satisfaction for me. During April/May this year, my wife and I traveled almost exactly 8,000 klms over 5 weeks.
We left Tasmania and took the Grt Ocean Road to Sth Aust, then to Broken Hill, Swan Hill, Echuca, Wagga, Bathurst, Katoomba, Sydney, Yass, Bendigo, Bright/Daylesford/Castlemaine areas, Walhalla, Phillip Island etc.
Car performed effortlessly, I won't tell you what speeds I was cruising to Broken Hill as it could leave me ...Read more

LRS SPORT TDV8
I have a property in the country which was affected by the Mickleham fires in Victoria. My TDV8 has doubled as my town car and my "farm" car and workroom. All my tools stay in the boot as all my outbuildings were destroyed. It has been doing double duty like this for the last two years and a bit without complaint. It is a 2007 purchased used. Only service other than maintenance has been to replace the alternator. Currently 142,000 kms and quite a bit on dirt road. No complaints and no desire to trade in. The TDV8 delivers great mileage...Read more
with low noise and great power on demand. Best engine I have ever owned for power and efficiency and possibly reliability. August 23rd 2017 Update: cruise control For the bloke with cruise control issues! I use my cruise control regularly and do not experience the speed ups you are having. I find it to be excellent at maintaining speed over bumps or uphill and downhill on a minor decline otherwise gravity does take control. I suggest there is a fault with yours and it is worth having it checked. BTW i gave the car a 4 only because as many have pointed out core specs are great but some niceties are missing for example navigation on this year, only 1 audio input in the rear seat area, problematic cd stacker(widely reported) but the vehicle is great in performance, economy power and comfort, the things that in my view really matter. I use an FM transmitter which has a memory stick with all my music. Works well.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Long live the TDV8
My RR has completed 640,000 kilometres, still going strong had it from new thousands of hours of great driving all over Aus. Replaced injectors at 400,000 k replaced front dif and transfer case at 600,000 k, crossed the Nullarbor and back 10 times, the only vehicle to choose for that trip. Cannot recommend this car any higher, if you have one drive it long miles it will reward you with long life.

Gutted. Engine failure!
I bought this new in 2009, so is one year out of warranty. I've only driven 34000 careful kms and the engine has failed. Needs a new engine at $17000
Land rover / dealer won't fix it. This is despite me complaining about an abnormal noise coming from the engine while it was still under the warranty period! I will never buy a LR again
Ok while it lasted.
Broken!

I love my V8
I bought my 2007 RR TDV8 second hand from a dealer in Brisbane with 83000 km's on the clock. It has towed a Kedron ATV off road van around Australia, and the same van to Cairns, the Gulf and Darwin on another trip. It has also towed a campa trailer across the Plenty Highway to Alice, down the Oodnadatta Track to the Flinders Ranges, up the Strzelecki Track to Innamincka and various other short trips. It now has 143000 km's on the clock and except for a blocked fuel filter due to a load of dirty diesel, it has never let me down. I would thorough...Read more
ly recommend the TDV8 to anyone although they stopped fitting that engine in the Sport in 2010. Economy, power, handling, brakes, towing ability and looks. Limited and expensive tyre choices for off road.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

What a car
I purchased a 2011 3lt TDV6 new as I'd always loved the look of the Rangie Sport. It was a close decision between this car and a Landcruiser 200 series. Boy am I glad I chose the Sport. The engine is quite powerful and reasonably frugal. The interior is very classy and the ride comfort is excellent. Overall I would definitely recommend this car to anyone considering it.
Stylish, very comfortable interior, drives very nice
Could do with slightly more engine power

Simply the best car I have ever owned or driven !
I bought the TDV6 3.0 version and fretted about the price. I can honestly say that this car gives me pleasure every day of my life - It has been worth every cent. It is economical, the ride is superb, the power and responsiveness unbelievable, and, reliability has not been an issue at all - It's just the best car I have ever owned or driven. I find myself finding reasons to go out for a drive, just to put a smile on my dial!
Everything!

Excellent
The vehicle is better than any other 4WD available including the Land Cruiser. Having owned a GXV the Range Rover Sports TDV8 is an excellent package. The diesel v8 is nothing short of fantastic, and far better than any of the other engone options available. I would highly recommend the RR Sports
TDV8 is superb. Vehicle build excellent. The complete 4WD

The best 4x4 by far
A handsome looking, extremely capable, economical car with a real "Hemingway" image. Equally at home belting down a gravel track in the outback as going to the ballet at the art centre. The air suspension is a boon and great for a little extra confidence when entering underground car parks. Unflappable by any road conditions. The kids love it and find that the slightly elevated rear seat gives them a great view out on the world. The driving position is possibly the best of any car I've ever driven. Beautiful interior which is practical an...Read more
d readily cleans up after being trashed by the kids. It also passes the one last look test (when you lock it up at night and walk into the house you have to have a backwards glance at it, and then give a wicked little chuckle!). I am amazed that there is still some kind of perception that there are reliability problems with modern Land Rovers: where does that come from??? Have also crossed the little desert (dry deep loose sand) three times, and had it at various off road drive days. Did Sky Trek in the Flinders Ranges effortlessly (never running out of ground clearance- that amazing wheel travel and air suspension). Interestingly at one off road day there was a guy in one of these who had just come out of an early 200 series cruiser and found the RRS far better off road. Perhaps you may worry if you were right down the Gibb River Road in an RRS- but you'd worry in anything wouldn't you, and honestly how many of us are going to do that? Do yourself a favour and try one alongside the Cayenne and M Class. And if going off road, even just a bit, there is no competitor. Pretty much everything Boot slightly too small. That said with careful packing we've managed to live out of it for a week with three small children. Get a roof box. Also proper AT tyres can be hard to get. OE Contis still pretty good. Cooper Zeons better.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excellent SUV
I have owned my Range Rover Sport TDV8 since mid 2009. It is a 2007 model that I purchased with 42k on the clock in 2009.I have owned a Freelander 2 from new so wanted to trade up to something larger and more powerful. I have to admit that I was slightly concerned about reliability, but having had terrific reliability from the Freelander I was prepared to give the RRS a go. I really wanted the TDV8 engine as I believe that it is the best for this very heavy car- while giving good fuel consumption. To date this has been one of the best vehicles...Read more
I have owned in nearly 40 years. The engine is simply astonishing with 200 kw and, more importantly, 650 nm of torque. Mid range acceleration is truly great and compares favorably with my Porsche 964. The handling belies it's weight and the suspension copes with any type of surface very well. The interior is functional and smart with comfortable leather seats with great range of adjustments and driving for 8 hours means little discomfort .As for reliability, so far only a minor problem with a window actuator ( fixed under warranty). I usually change vehicles every 3 years, but intend tom keep this for at least another 2- possibly looking at the full sizes Range Rover with the diesel engine as a replacement. Definitely recommended. Diesel engine power with economy . Handling and go anywhere ability Servicing costs2 comments

Great looking vehicle that goes, and stops, as good as it looks. Expensive, but you get a lot of vehicle for your dollar and it is worth it for the smile it puts on your face every time you drive it. Also it is as good off road as on road which no other luxury 4wd can claim.
Had the TD V8 for 6 months now. The most smooth and comfortable vehicle I have owned. The V8 has massive mid range power and pulls my 1.2 ton camper trailer as if it wasn't there. It drives like a sports car but off road is as capable as any of my earlier Nissan Patrols. Th...Read more

Hi all out there in RR world.....a couple of questions for the discerning RR owner. I am looking at purchasing a 2009 RR TDV8, Sport model, it has done 129,000 km. Can anyone enlighten me to the probability of problems with the turbo, the reliability of this vehicle, even though it is 9 years old, and really how expensive are they to service and fix?

Hello
I am looking at various models of RR wondering what to purchase. I have been told the pre 2008 Sport's were prone to Air Suspension problems, the Diesel's are prone to engine and Transmission failure. I am now thinking of looking for a low mileage earlier L322 (around2003) with the BMW or Jag Motor, were there issues with these as well? Which is considered the best RR. I have read the petrol-supercharged versions are the best motors and this appeals to me as I intend to tow a large heavy Caravan with whatever I buy.I already have an ever-faithful 89 3.5 RR with a genuine 160K on the clock; it has a slightly upgraded Engine: Cam,Heads,Extractors,Air Intake,Computer,Manifold etc. Unfortunately she is not up to towing the van and in my old and decrepit state I would like a little more comfort.
All advice will be taken with understanding; for every bad reference there will be a good one, however the quantity of each will determine the final decision.
Thank you in advance.
Tony
