The Fall of Macpac
Once synonymous with quality and dependability, once the leader in the market and the very pinnacle of flawless design, Macpac have taken a giant leap off their pedestal into the abyss, and it's not pretty.
The Latitude 700 seems lovely at first. Granted, when ours was purchased, they did look lovely - all lofty and full of warmth. If you were to pick one up now, though, for the same apparent fill and temperature ratings, you don't get anywhere near the loft. I just don't know how they did it! (<sarcasm/>)

she performed quite well. But after a while, the down started to mysteriously migrate. Then one day, it was decided that she needed a wash (because a big stinky man was the one occupying her). Adhering to the washing instructions of the bag, she was washed at home. All the down migrated into one place. She was returned and sent to have her down redistributed... twice... before a refund was required because they couldn't repair the damage. Turns out it's a design flaw. A rather serious design flaw for a down sleeping bag, particularly if you're going to market it as suitable for use for 'real life sleeping in tents in the bush and things', where if a product doesn't do what it is designed to do, the consequences can actually turn out to be, well... pretty dire! So what's this design flaw? The baffles, which in the past have been specifically designed to retain down and stop it migrating within the bag, all have 'channels' to assist with... can you believe... 'migration'!!! I bet that makes it significantly cheaper to throw these bags together, but it basically renders them useless for anyone requiring a bag for any purpose other than, and not excluding, kids sleepovers.Similar opinion? Storage bag with fold over closer and taped seals is brilliant, hoping to make use of it on a multi-day river trip one day to test out how water-proof it is, and how dry the bag is at the end of it!
Exceptionally warm, great for cold nights out in the tent, no velcro to scratch on or stick yourself to, semi- mummy bag for a good snug fit, and you can tighten the hood around your head to prevent vi...Read more
