Mazda BT50 nothing but problems from day one!
This has included the car being delivered with a dent in the bonnet (that ever other person except Mazda can see), tailgate badge not straight, ongoing issues with the gear box even after being replaced under warranty, driveline vibrations that was fixed under warranty, DPF regen problems, leaking rear main fixed under warranty, leaking rear axel seal fix under warranty.
I have never had so much trouble with a vehicle and is the worst purchase to date.
I will never buy a Mazda again.
Purchased in August 2021.

Poor fuel consumption. I feel ripped off
2018 Xt with a dpf filter. Use my car for work. I actually love the car. I am just extremely disappointed with the fuel consumption. 13.7 L/100 around town I’m actually scared to do the math at the bowser because I no it will be higher then it states on the dash. Has anyone had any luck at the dealer sorting out a solution? False advertising!!!!!!!
Purchased in January 2021 for A$37,000.00.

BT50 - a reliable and great car
I use my BT50 to get around town on a daily basis. It is a very reliable car with not too many electronic gadgets on it so it does not distract you from driving. I use the Android Auto feature to use google maps and my music on my android phone, which is easy to use.
Purchased in August 2021.

Good car, gets the job done
The car is not very noisy and drives well
The interior is very spacious and has new looking features. The seats are very comfortable and there is a lot of leg room.
The car runs well but I would say running costs are quite expensive.
However for a tradie it's a good car

Best Value Diesel Cab Chassis In Class
Value buyers looking for an affordable diesel, manual, cab tray should look no further. While the model is somewhat aged compared to Hilux and other variants at the low end of the market the BT-50 in my view offers the best overall value for money. The 2.2L manual diesel is probably not a class leader in any category but at the end of the day it is cheap to buy and cheap to run. Dealers offer great deals on in stock vehicles as I guess they aren't a volume seller and they want to keep their dealer stock turning over. Engine is a harsh = yes...Read more
, Gearbox is notchy and sometimes difficult to find a gear = yes, ride is a little unkempt (even for a cab chassis = yes) but it gets the job done. The biggest gripes I have is that the gear box (6 speed manual) isn't well suited to the engine as 6th gear never really gets used and changing through 5 ratio's to get to 5th at about 50kmh is a chore around town, also trying to run the engine at low rpm to save fuel results in unsightly and smelly puffs of white diesel smoke when taking off at the lights. Anyway it's probably the only diesel tray ute that can be had near new (dealer demo with under 1000km) and fall within the Federal Governments immediate write off for tax purposes of $20k + GST for small businesses.Similar opinion? 6 speed auto failure
Was reasonably happy with vehicle at first. Big roomy interior handles good on a trip. When loaded full of tools approx 750kg constant rear springs hit bump stops not happy Mazda yet to resolve problem. At 53000 kms auto failed and vehicle had to be towed 500klms back to my local dealer for new transmission. 2.2 engine is a joke it's gut less. Overall build quality very poor.

Tough vehicle and tough on ride
Handling, economy and finish great, but if your after comfort on city roads, back streets and bumpy roads the jolts may pull your back or neck muscles . Suspension too hard if your not carrying a load. This is a work horse and design for heavy lifting. Its not a vehicle for a representative in a suit. Great tradie work horse. Not your for city folk side street car.

2014 Mazda BT50 22p lowrider diesel.
Pros: Good all round structurally. Value for money. Good interior ergonomics. Good handling. Ride height.
Cons: rough bad gearing and gearbox for 2014 vehicle. Lack of power and irregular power pickup. Oversensitive autowindow switch. Lack of a permanent-on cruise control switch.

Buy the Isuzu instead
I bought the 2013 2.2l Bt50 and regretted it every day since. I have been unable to reverse my trailer or the ute with a load up a slope (not hill just a slope) without almost burning out the clutch. It just has no power at low revs at all, I have been towing trailers for 30 years and this thing just cannot do the job I bought it for nor what Mazda claim.
Had a fuel injector replaced at 5000ks and 2 fuel lines. Does not run well on cheap diesel, it only likes BP or Caltex Vortex, anything else causes it cough all the time.
The ute sits on the...Read more

ly designed that falls out and drops it's contents all over the foot well. The headlights wouldn't light up a toilet and Mazda refuses to acknowledge that there is anything wrong with them. As I said buyer beware with the 2.2l mazda.200 000k update.

Reliable comfortable truck with great carrying capacity.
I have a bog standard Mazda BT50 Cab Chassis Ute with an aluminum tray as per factory delivery. The vehicle is fine except for a few very minor issues easily dealt with by myself. It has the 2.2 litre turbo diesel engine and 6 speed manual gearbox. It has a very handy carrying and towing capacity and has plenty of power for my needs and runs very cheaply. I am an easy driver and have had the vehicle 14 months from new and have only travelled 9000kms. This includes the 2000kms when I drove it from Tasmania to the Gold Coast when relocating. ever missed a beat and was comfortable, and economical, despite carrying a decent load, and the cab is set out like a normal car with more than enough creature comforts. The downsides are that it can be difficult, due to its length, to park in a normal parking bay and the gearbox can be a bit notchy, but over time its easy to adjust to these quirks. Although its not a 4WD vehicle it is quite large and you sit up as high as most 4WD vehicles. I love having vinyl floors rather than carpet and it has a standard sound system that puts most cars to shame as well as USB/iPod connectivity and Bluetooth as standard. It has good safety features with 4 airbags in a single cab. The downside to this vehicle is the Company itself and the cost of servicing from Dealers and back up. It has had 2 services since I bought it and both have been very average. The first in Tasmania was free but the dealer service was appalling and I am not sure if it was because I had it serviced at a different location to where i bought it but after the service it was left out on the street with the keys in the ignition and just 'dumped'. I was just pointed in the right direction and pointed to the door. The second service, in Queensland, was just recently completed and apart from being grossly overpriced it was rushed and the vehicle was left in a much dirtier condition than I left it with small paper shreds strewn throughout the cab and very greasy marks spread over the door areas near the handles. I have been warned about excessive service prices but I got it serviced at the dealer due to a small warranty job needing done, which I might add was put in the too hard basket. I have another vehicle that I get serviced by a local mechanic and that's where the Mazda will go next. The car is a keeper for me but do yourself a favour and get it serviced at a reputable non dealer mechanic and it will be fine. So overall the car drops a point simply because the Mazda Back up is grossly overpriced and overrated.1 comment

iler I was towing to the top with household goods and drove 1800kms back to Queensland. The weight was considerable and I drove at about 90-95km/h on the return trip and achieved just over 9 litres to 100 km. A fair result considering the weight. It did sit back a little in the rear but I never got close to bottoming out and it performed without fault. The only problem was breaking the lock on the fuel filler cap which was still useable and replaced under warranty on my return.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

2013 BT-50 6 speed Auto Gearbox problems
Brand new 2013 BT-50 XT hi-rider 6 speed auto. From day one I have had a problem starting off in drive when cold. As you try to accelerate the engine rev's and you feel as though you are not going to even get to the end of the street. Then without any warning there is a thump from the engine bay and the vehicle starts to speed up. This continues for a while until the engine warms up. Took the vehicle in for its first 1000 klm service, asked the question as to what would be the problem, they even kept the vehicle over night to try and replicate ...Read more
this from cold, only to be told that they could not fault the vehicle. The problem is an ongoing issue, now with 4500 klm. Apart from this, plenty of power from the 2.2 lt Turbo Diesel, comfortable to drive and grips well in the wet on the bridgestone tyres. Would be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem. Plenty of power, comfortable Auto Gearbox up change problems when cold.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
