Priceless investment!
Medela has been such a great helper during the first years of motherhood. We initially bought the Swing and upgraded to Freestyle due to the convenience of having 2 pumps at the same time. Totally a lifesaver! I was able to leave my 40 days old son for a 5 days trip overseas and he was able to be fed exclusively breastmilk! We got them when it was on sale at Baby Bunting so it is even better. The only downside is the sound that is a bit loud, especially when pumping at night (my son is a light sleeper!). We are keeping this precious pump for our next newborn!

its quiet and portable
It is comfortable to use, especially when at work. Suction is good but it does not give a proper sucking to empty out the breasts. Charging is good and the battery lasts a good 10 hours.
it is a relatively convenient machine for portability. However still needs another wall connected milking machine to properly empty the breasts

Simple to use breast pump
Medela was the brand used by the hospital my wife gave birth in, however when purchasing we were told the off the shelve pumps would not be as powerful. My wife can't fault it so far, it's very easy to use, clean and put back together. There is enough suction for two bottles at once, however you have the option to use one at a time if required. There is no noticeable difference using 240v or the battery which allows roughly 8-10 uses of 30 minutes. We have Avent bottles and steriliser kit which the Medela equipment fits in. The only hassle is we mostly use Avent bottles, the Medela kit does not come with teats but can be purchased separately.

Thank you for your excellent review.
As you say, your wife cannot feel the difference in the suction as surprisingly, they have equal suction!

Rarely would a mother express with the pump at full suction, in some cases doing this can be harmful and hamper milk flow, it may even cause injury to the nipple and breast tissue. The Freestyle pump is the top of the range Medela pump and contains everything a mother needs in her breastfeeding journey. As you point out the battery is also very effective and for a working mother saves her having to find a mains outlet when she needs to express. For a guide on what to look for when choosing a pump please see the link below https://www.medela.com.au/breastfeeding/advice/pumping/choose-breast-pump Thank you agian Kind regards Pauline

Price is too high for usage life very sad customer
Was comfortable and easy to use. Given the cost was disappointed after only using for 6 weeks post baby one and the 2 weeks for baby number two. The pump died. I trouble shooters with lend of friend batteries and power cords which appear not the be the problem will not charge and will not turn in. For the price I would expect to get more use. Don’t bother ringing the customer support. I would have to send it back at own cost and repairs at own cost. By the time I pay for all this I would be up for a new pump. Disappointing Medela on a brand I have always supported and boasted about has failed me

use did not give value for money. I now own another brand Ardo Pump - it has 400 hours warranty which is a much better value - particularity if I have 2 years between kids. Also there pump came with more flanges so no need to buy additional sizes unlike Medela. I tried to talk to Medela directly before giving my review they were not interested in assisting and were very rude on the phone poor customer service. I live in a country town I cannot just whip into a city 6 hours away to drop in my pump. Hence I will not be buying from Medela in the future or even suggesting there brand. Ardo all the way ladies ABA endorsed.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good one
Got this pump 4 months ago on sale.
Really simple to use.easy to clean.
After delivery, used hospital grade medala pump.
I didnt find much difference between that one and freestyle pump.
Yes it's a bit pricey but it is worth the money.
There are other accessories in the kit which I didn't find very useful.

Great breast pump
A wonderful breast pump with so many pump settings as well as having a timer which is quite handy. A time saver by pumping both breasts at the same time. Not as loud as some other pumps I tried and feels more comfortable to use. It is an expensive pump but worth the money. The pack also comes with a convenient cooler pack with an ice pack shaped to hold bottles upright and secure. So many attachments you can buy like a bra which will secure the pump while you can still walk around and do anything around the home that may need to be done. This is also doable because you have the option of using a battery pack - making it more portable or you still have the option of plugging it into the power socket.

Almost perfect
I have used the Medela Symphony pump when I was in hospital after giving birth and I really liked it. I told myself that I am going to get something similar when I get home as I didn't like the Philips Avent breast pump which was given to me as a hand me down. I did some research and came across the Medela Freestyle pump which I have purchased and didn't regret it.
PROS: The Freestyle pump is easy to operate and I like the LCD screen with the timing so you know how many minutes you have pumped. It also allows you to adjust the intensity of ...Read more
the pumping. Another good feature is that it is a double pump meaning you can reduce the pumping time compared to a single pump, but it also gives you the option of using it as single pump if you want. The pumping action is also very good. It is also portable if not plugged in as it comes with a large battery so you can take it to different rooms and the power lasts. It is also easy to clean. I actually don't find the machine that loud when it operates. CONS: I find after many times of disassembling the connector to clean and putting it back together, it can affect the pumping action but you can pull apart the connector and put it back together again to see if it helps (I sometimes have to do this several times to get the pumping action going). Overall, I do like my Medela Freestyle pump and I would recommend it.1 comment

Effective pump
The pump is easy to use and flexible. I only need it for 10 minutes on one breast to pump out 100ml. its such a life saver at 3am in the morning. The only thing I don't like about this pump is that it is a bit loud and sometimes it wakes up the baby during the night. I have to go into a different room for this business.

2 pumps at once
Comfortable and easy to use, use it for 29 minutes at a time. Liked that there are 2 pumps which made the process quicker however didn’t like the suction, the medela kit they had at the hospital was much better. Easy to clean was a plus in the middle of the night

Reliable, easy to use and dependable.
This machine is easy to use, has a great battery life and has worked perfectly for 7 months straight without a single issue. The dual express modes mimicks my babies sucking to ensure I always get a letdown and I’ve always been able to express at a minimum as much as my baby wants to drink - often I get more than I need, which I freeze.
The only downside is that the pump is quite loud, so nighttime expressing without waking baby can sometimes be difficult.
It’s a great pump, if I ever needed a new pump I’d buy this one again without hesitation.

Quality Pump
This pump has made my experience breastfeeding so much easier. I bought it prior to having our daughter (now 11months old) and glad I did. I had flat nipples and so I was exclusively pumping for the first week of her life. Then once I was using a nipple shield I still had to pump to ensure I was producing enough milk. This pump made it easy. It's easy to clean, fairly compact and you can walk around with it. After the first few months of needing it regularly, I didn't use it for about 6 months. Now using it again to make bottles for my girl to get her off the breast once I go back to work. And again, finding it to be super easy and effective pump.

Amazing product, couldn’t have kept breastfeeding without it
The medela freestyle is a comfortable double breastpump. I could pump 300mls in 10 minutes and it’s small and convienent to take and travel with the battery pack. Easy to pull apart and clean. I’ve had other brands of breastpumps and would choose his one again and again. I never experienced pain or broken nipples.

Can't live without it
After not being able to get my baby to latch properly, this pump has been a lifesaver for me. I love that the pump has a rechargeable battery which means I can easily pump while attending to other tasks. My only criticism is that it's a bit awkward to pick up my baby while pumping due to the design of the pump, but easy to do other tasks.

Horribly frustrating
I got this pump as a gift and have had trouble with it from the get go. I've had the parts replaced twice and have had a new pump sent to me and I still have trouble with it. My main frustration with it is that it will not double pump. I've tried everything in the trouble shooting section of the manual and it still does not double pump; the suction is so weak.
However, it's great for single pumping. But only being able to single pump is unacceptable as the pump is designed to double pump. My sister-in-law didn't spend all that money for me to...Read more

Excellent for all moms
This double breast pump is very convenient and very easy to use. You can adjust different levels and different time by yourself. You can attach either bottles or storage bags. The machine is light and portable. Most of the parts can be cleaned by the sterilizer. I will use this products again in the future.

Comfortable to use with adjustable speed. I use for 30 min each session and sanitise one a day. I store them in the fridge after each use. I would recommend this to my friends who are expecting. This allows my baby to get my breastmilk easily as I hVe sore nipples.

Questions & Answers
Chrisasked
Can this be used as one pump at a time or does both have to be used together?
3 answers
Yes, I think so. Use plastic wrap between shield and breastshield connector. Then you can transfer Freestyle to a single pump
Yes, it can be used either one pump or two pumps.
Medela A.Medela
Hi Chris, yes the Freestyle can easily be converted from a double to a single pump and back again simply by unplugging the tubing from one of the pump connectors and plugging it into the square shaped adaptor in the centre of the tubing. This needs to be done to regulate the vacuum otherwise it will be lost out of the side not being used. Thank you Medela Australia.
