Which companies are these people talking about. There are about 10 named companies under the 'Members Own' umbrella. Would be helpful to know who they are talking about specifically.

I think they operate as a broker service and have access to fund i.e. defence, teachers etc. We are now with Hunter Health who I would never have known to look at but well priced for good cover. Worth a call to find out.

Members Own Health Funds
Ben T.Members Own Health Funds

Hi Civleh, AnneM is correct Members Own is a comparison service for a collective of Not-for-profit and Mutual health funds, the reviews here are about the service we provide to customers helping them find a new health fund.

Hi Mahadevan
Member Own Health Funds represent numerous health funds which supply different products at varying costs. The only way to really have your question answered is to call Members Own on 1300 34 34 36. They will determine what you need and advise the best health fund for you to join. It is a free service and there is no obligation. These people know their product and will advise you accordingly. We found it well worth the phone call. The lady we spoke to was Melissa and we were well pleased with her service and product knowledge.
I am unable to help you any more than that as I am only a customer, like yourself
Good Luck !!

Cheers Jess

Some of your members health funds have less than 100,000 members paying premiums, would that be a problem in case(you know what I mean, like a bank getting a run).

Hi Raymond, thanks for the question. Regardless of any health funds size, all funds are bound by APRA's (Australian Prudential Regulation Authority ) financial regulations which require they hold enough capital to ensure all claims can be paid. All funds need to report their financials to APRA on a quarterly basis.

Hi Aja, thanks for the question. Members Own Health Funds is not a health insurer. We are a comparison service for a group of Not-For-Profit and Mutual Health funds. We provide a service where we look at your health insurance needs and match you to the best fund and product that we have available, if we don't have something that beats your current policy we will let you know that as well. Hi Members Own

I have swapped health insurance funds quite a lot, from Medibank originally, and how with NIB. However, at 64, I find they are not covering knee and hip surgery. Although I am fine now, I know lots of friends around my age who have needed help. I also need a health fund that provides good cover for dental, as I have implants lower jaw and am beginning to have problems with my remaining teeth + bridge on my upper jaw.

I pay around $170 per month. Can I get something that covers me better, but around the same price or less?

Hi Lorraine, I'm sure we will be able to find something that provides you with the cover you need and the value you're looking for. The best way to get the right level for your needs would be to give us a buzz on 13 10 66. Cheers, Ben

I don't know how to compare as without a item number for say a 2 side filling I could be paying more to the dentist
For instance my dentist is willing to take what my fund pays for a check and clean and I can go every 4mths
I also get 300 on glasses up front
Maybe you can shed some light

Hi, sorry l can’t help you, we only have Hospital cover, so the comparasion was easy, l suggest giving them a call, re dental we recently joined a program called Smile, 15 to 40% of the dental cost even if you have dental cover from your Health fund.

Members Own Health Funds
Ben T.Members Own Health Funds

Hi Jenifer, thanks for the question. Robert is right, the best way for us to answer the question is for you to call us on 13 10 66. The reason for this is each fund we have would have different benefits available. So firstly we would need to find a fund and policy that suits your needs and price, then from there look at the benefits you claim on and compare them to what the new fund would also pay. When we speak to you we do quite a bit of research to ensure we are helping you make the right decision regarding your insurance going forward. In a lot of case we not only save you some money but also increase the benefits you receive back. Cheers, Ben

Does this quote include the 2% per year loading? We are 66 & 65 respectively..

Sharyn M
Sharyn M

I have had private health insurance since I was 18, I’m now 51. I don’t pay the extra loading so I’m assuming it doesn’t have the loading but it will increase every year like all insurances do 1st of April.

Members Own Health Funds
Ben T.Members Own Health Funds

Hi Gerada, if you have spoken to one of the team and let them know you have never held cover before then the quote they provided you would include a loading. If you are just looking at a quote on our website then it won't include the loading. GIven your circumstances the best bet would be give us a call on 13 10 66 so we can ensure we quote you the correct premium. Cheers, Ben

All the above reviews are about joining the fund and the good customer service. What about making claims and if the expectations have been met.

4 answers
Members Own Health Funds
Ben T.Members Own Health Funds

Hi N and M, thanks for the question. You have nothing to worry about when making a claim with any of the Members Own funds. Like all the funds out there if you go to the dentist or other provider you swipe your Membership card and the benefit is deducted from the cost of the service. On the rare occasions where that is not an option then you can submit the claim in most cases online and the benefit is paid directly into your bank account. All our funds pride themselves on providing exceptional customer service, making sure claims are paid in a timely manner is all part of that.

If your concern is about a fund having the financial ability to pay claims. The Government legislates a minimum amount of capital that all funds must have to ensure they have the ability to pay any outstanding claims their members may have. Cheers, Ben

No copayment what does that mean?

1 answer
Members Own Health Funds
Ben T.Members Own Health Funds

Hi Lollie, a co-payment is a little like an excess in the fact that you pay a set amount per day for your hospital stay. For example you may have a co-payment of $100 per day up to $500 per year. This means that if you were in hospital for 3 days you would pay $300. Depending on the fund and policy would determine how much the co-payment is. Not all funds and policies have a co-payment. Thanks for the question. Cheers, Ben

Im in my late 50s and my husband is in his early 60s is there any chance of us doing any better as my husband has retired and I work casual. This amount is too much for us given that we hardly use it. We would like some feed back if possible?
