Long ownership

I have had the OptiMax on my boost for 6 years not a problem great fuel economy and running costs. Have owned a number of outboards over the years the OptMax outclasses them all, would not hesitate In Purchasing another OptMax on my next boat.

I'm thinking off buying a 4.85 aluminum with a 5 year old 75 opti max with 188 hours on it. Can I expect to have any prob. with it ?

patch,
I have never had a problem with the engine, just regular services, good fuel and oil are essential, cheap oil will give you issues I only use quicksilver or merc's oil. 188 hours is nothing to what a well maintained outboard will deliver. The engine does not like low crank batteries so make sure that the CCA rating on the battery matches the required CCA rating in the handbook. This does go for all merc's as my son has had battery problems with his 150 4stroke varado supplied batteries were to small, when my boat was new same problem, the small batteries do not like the high CCA that the motor requires.
Hope this helps
