Horrible, buy apple instead
Made the biggest mistake wasting money on metamucil, tastes like crap, can hardly swallow with no advantage what so ever, made my constipation worse than it was. Why not spending money on apple or other natural fibers and get instant result.

Artificial sweetened! Horrible taste!
I bought the wild berry flavour, it was horribly sweet. Almost impossible to drink! I wish there would be less sweetener. I haven't tried the orange flavour, so I can't tell if it is better.

Shocking taste
I like the smooth version for my bowel motions, works great! Tried the wild berry instead of the orange, I know it's artificially sweetened, the wild berry makes me want to throw the empty glass across the room into a brick wall it's so bad. I paid 17bucks for this, can I just throw it and accept my problem has one solution? Hell yes.

Sweet. It's terrible!
I brought the mixed berry flavour. It's full of artificial sweeteners. I asked the counter person if it was sweet and they said 'oh no, definitely not' now I'm stuck with it I can't return it because I opened it. There is nowhere on the container that tells me this . False advertising!!

Metamucil Powders
The only good Metamucil made was Fibersure which you could add to any food or drink as it was tasteless
The new line of Metamucil is oversweet and horrible and you cannot use it in ant other products as the sweetness is overpowering.
It is a ploy to get you addicted to sugar

Drink loads of water.
Tastes really good but you'll be pushing concrete through your intestines if you don't drink enough water with this stuff.

Good sh*t
Not sure why people who don't even have bowel issues are using Metamucil and giving this negative reviews. If you're not constipated or you don't have bad quality stools, you're wasting your money.
There are cheaper psyllium husk powders on the market but I find Metamucil to be more tolerable. I'm not a huge fan of the added orange flavour, but I don't mind it either.
What's important is that this product does help to improve the quality of my stool. I have inflammatory bowel disease and was advised by a dietitian to increase the amount of s...Read more

Medically proven to be of no benefit except for constipation
My doctor in Sydney said this is a joke. It is not a medically recognized anti-toxin or good for weight control. It is only good for the constipated. Nothing else. Has no other benefit whatsoever. I used it. It did not benefit me in anyway. It was a non event. Maybe if I was constipated like most of the people here,I would have had a happy ending.
Nice flavour
Mono use-constipation relief. Over-rated.

Transforming!
Some years ago an ex-colleague, recovering thankfully from bowel cancer, was advised by his doctor to take metamucil on a regular basis: he passed this advice on to me.
Fast forward several years, and I decided to try it out. It's no exaggeration to say that it has made a huge difference to my daily life.
The product is, as others have noted, a fruit flavoured fibre extract. I did play as an experiment with another flavour than the most popular orange (IIRC it was lime) but quickly returned to orange. It comes in "Smooth" and "Granular": ...Read more
they taste roughly similar but the granular does have a rather unpleasant texture, clumps in the glass and can be a little gagging unless swallowed in one long gulp. My personal regime is to take a heaped teaspoonful before my morning tea, which I find works wonders for my bowel movements. Which is not to diminish the importance of eating plenty of vegetables and fruit - it's just that most of us don't. (Don't read on if you are of a sensitive disposition!)5 comments

Good
This is a good addition to the diet if you are lacking fibre. It is very easy to take and you just have to remember to take it regularly to get the benefits. You can get this in powder form or capsules which are easy to take.
When I need to have a boost of fibre, Metamucil is one of the products that I will often reach for. I like the fact that it is very easy to take and comes in a variety of nice tasting flavours. It is never a hassle to take.
A bit more expensive than some products but it is worth it.

I take one good teaspoon of metamucil after dinner at night in about 250mls of water. It fills me up so I don't look for after dinner snacks and I get a compulsory glass of water added to my water intake everyday. I used to have an irritable bowel and now don't have any problems. I find the orange the best flavour, lemon and lime is a little sweeter, and original is grainy but there isn't much taste. Buy the large container on sale and you can't go wrong.
Easy to digest rather than another capsule.
The flavoured varieties are very sweet in taste if you use a lot at once.

do you only take this once a day after your dinner?

Good
When using this product you need quite a bit of water for the fibre to work properly. it is a good snack choice as it fills you up quickly. if you buy the large container of it it is much cheaper and tastier than buying pure psyllium husk, which is quite grainy and unpleasant to drink.
Easy to digest, great for if you need fibre and tastes okay.
The orange flavour in the Metamucil tastes quite good if you have a small portion, but if you have too much it tastes too sweet, and overpowering. it contains aspartame *an artificial sweetener*

I use this anytime I want to get myself more regular. The large canister is the best deal, and sometimes comes on sale in the pharmacies. If you visit the website and sign up, sometimes they have a free trial offer, so they send you an sms and you can go pick up some free little daily sample packs, so thats a great deal! I have tried the orange flavour, which tastes just like orange Tang and has no bitter after taste. The lime flavour is okay, and I only buy it if the orange is'nt available. Overall, this seems to be a healthy product since it ...Read more
has psllium husk in it, only thing, is the artifical sweetener. And I wouldnt suggest you use this as a way to weight control. I bought this product because I wanted to get my bowels on regular movement and I used to be constipated once in a while. When I first used this powder, it worked really well and I was'nt constipated. Nowadays, I feel that it has slowed down how effective it works for me. I dont take it regularly, but only once in a while, and it helps me to be more regular, instead of giving me loose motion like some pills do. You have to make sure you drink a lot of water when you are taking this.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

While this product 'works' there are much cheaper and less packaged options available. However, if you are reading this and find that you NEED to take this sort of product, then consider a simple change in diet. Many of today's breads have high amounts of soluble fibre in them (look at the ingredients list on the packaging) and will provide a significant of your daily fibre requirements. Add to that any fruit or veg, and you are well on your way to reducing your reliance on bulking agents.
It certainly acts as a bulking agent to promote regular...Read more

I got this because my doctor told me I need more fiber and recommended it.
I can't say i have seen many results which is confusing as I was doing the "two week challenge" and having it three times a day with my meals. It did make me feel fuller for longer and eat less because I was drinking more water which is good but I still feel bloated. When I first started taking it I had so much energy but that has now gone too. I am going to stick with it though, and make myself exercise and eat better and see how I go. I am going to finish the canister...Read more

This product does supply a good source of fibre and tastes quite pleasant. However it is not cheap and should only be used if you are unable to tolerate consuming fibre from normal food sources.I would say that the danger is that people would become reliant on using this as a quick fix for their dietary fibre issues and not learn to eat food with natural fibre content. It has the benefit of being a source of fibre you can consume if you are unable to chew much solid food and could be useful for aged persons.
Fairly effective
Costly

We always have metamucil in our cupboard at home for when one of us needs some extra fibre. Sadly our diets these days are lacking and its vital to our health, so being able to take natural remedy keeps my mind at peace. The capsules, although more expensive are great for travelling - especially when camping. Highly recommend.
Great for when your diet needs a bit of a boost. Tastes fine but especially love the capsules as they're very easy to take, especially when you're away.
Texture can be difficult to take sometimes - but its fibre - can't be all good!

The cost of buying this product actually works out to be not that bad in the long run. If you are lacking a bit in your fibre intake then it is a good way to ensure you are getting enough fibre. It is very easy to take and while it is always going to be better to get your fibre from more natural foods, this is an easy way if you are lacking.
This product tastes nice, is easy to use, and ensures you get a good fibre intake easily.
Not that expensive if you are not using this product daily but rather as an extra fibre boost now and then.

My doctor recommended 1 to 2 tablespoons metamucil per day as i have haemurrhoids
Trird this ended up with diarrhoea
1 answer
From my own experience, stick with it and things will stabilize. If your gut is accustomed to a low fiber diet, this will give you diarrhea until it adjusts. You should be fine in a few days. BUT...you should split the dose, maybe 1-2 teaspoons 3 times a day, like before each meal.

The Natural Granular Metamucil lists ingredients as "psyllium husk powder, sucrose". However, further down it says "Phenylketorurics: contains phenylalanine".
There is NO phenylalanine in sucrose (nor psyllium husk) so WHY does it say this? I rang their 1 800 number in Australia and received no help - but a comment was made regarding "secret ingredients"!

I really can't answer this question. All I can say is I take the Smooth Orange and it has changed my life around.
I have collagenous colitis,
I can only recommend that you give it a try.
