ASX XA (2010-2012)

I have a 2011 Mitsubishi ASX, 1.8L turbo desiel. I need to replace the fan belt and am looking at attempting to do this myself because my car is 300km away from the nearest mechanic and it will cost $600 to get it towed. Does anyone have any information they could give me to help??

Changing a fan belt is a bit tricky. I had my other car which isnt an ASX, a mechanic did change the fan belt but it wasnt perfectly done it was making a loud noise. I for myself will not touch it unless im comfortably able to do it.

ASX XA (2010-2012)

I have just bought a 2011 Mitsubishi ASX 4WD with 60,000km on the clock and travelled the first 100km. To my surprise the fuel consumption was 12.5L/100km on the city. I found it way too much comparing to the 8.1L/100km claimed - more than 50% higher. Is IT something I should get used to or should I take the car to be serviced?

That seems excessive IMO get it serviced and check tyre pressures.

Hi there
I would be horrified if I got this terrible consumption figure. I've driven most of my time on the highway
and while I don't have a heavy foot, I've passed a few trucks and pushed it a few times.
I live in Canberra and the traffic is fairly light too. If you are driving in heavy traffic all the time,
your car is loaded up (mine never has been), and you are pushing it, then your figure could be right.
I haven't done a really accurate fuel check but it's about 6.5L/100km mostly highway driving.
I drove a friends V8 X5 BMW to Sydney and back, and some Sydney traffic and got better consumption than you
are getting.

Whats the driving condition? Is your car loaded? Does the first 100km. Driven as a continous? Evrytime you switch on your engine it will reset back the fuel calculations if the car is off for more than 4 hours. If not then it will still register the previous consumption. Mine always start at 12L/100km something and gradually lower down as I drive without the usual traffic of stop and go.

It's best to ask the mechanical repairs and servicing shop you got to do the repairs that question or Mitsubishi Australia

When does the timing belt need to be changed in the asx?

The ASX does not use a timing belt, but a timing chain which will last longer. So you don't have to change the timing chain as soon as a timing belt. It's mostly known to change when you don't have efficient oil for the car, as well when the engine feels sluggish and not starting properly.
