Tough little Triton
Purchased Triton used with 70,000k. Have had engine and turbo replaced under factory warranty. The Triton is now better than new, and gets around Land Cruiser country (outback NT) troublefree. Family has enjoyed a number of trips to outreaches of Kakadu, and has explored WA's Kimberley in depth, without concern.

Not to Bad Triton MN
Overall I must say Mitsubishi did a not to bad job on this model. From a mechanical point of view, I am quite impressed with the thought/thinking they have put into the motor. Some very smart solutions to gasket application, simple and helpful settings in the under motor engine cover, they have thought it through very well.
The motor itself goes quite well and has plenty of torque when it is on the move.
Suspension set up is not to bad considering they a covering a wide range of needs. If you need to make changes on the car for particular us...Read more
e, there is plenty of after market support to make changes safely. Interior is put together quite well. The one complaint I do have is the quality of the plastics. This is something you would have found in cars from the 80's. Apart from that the dash lay out is pretty good. The one aspect I do hate, being a tall guy is the seats. It would be more comfortable sitting on a plank of wood. There is not leg support there as you always have the feeling you are tilted forward, very uncomfortable. Lumber support is not that brilliant too. I could forgive the quality of plastics, but come on Mitsubishi the seats are utterly rubbish. To fix this problem you have to spend you hard earned dollars to make them comfortable. No current car should require this. Features are quite good as I have the mid range model and find it not to bad. Stereo plays well even though it still does belong to the dark ages, no colour/touch screen. Over all a very good package and worth buying. Mechanically if serviced as required they are close to bullet proof.

Mixed bag!
A Noisy rather agricultural driving experience. Noisy leaf springs. I like the rear automatic opening window.
Engines are ok, as long as the overheating problem doesn't strike, due to poor build quality. Running costs are the bomb. You need to adjust tappets every 30,000ks. If you like spending heaps of money on running costs buy a Triton. Mitsu replaced faulty motor (2.5l) from overheating issue, it totally transformed the way the Triton performed. It now powered up the hills with ease. I appreciated what Mitsu fixed, however just wished it was like that from the start.

A great ute
I purchased a new Triton GLX automatic 3 years ago. It is a wonderful vehicle: reliable, economical and very comfortable. We have made six trips from Queensland down to South Australia and have never experienced a single problem. We have had a couple of issues with a torn seat cover and noisy rear springs and the dealer has fixed them immediately. Great vehicle with a great warranty. I'd buy another Mitsubishi tomorrow. Their pricing is very competitive and their dealer support is excellent.

Very reliable Ute with no problems
I bought this ute second hand about 6 years ago. Have used it for urban and highway driving and moving furniture and gardening rubbish from time to time. 130000km on the clock. I have lived on the coast 1km from beach for past 4 years. It's been a very reliable vehicle and I've never had a problem with it. Exterior most layer of Paint has just started to come off as a fine dust but admittedly it is outside 24 hours / day it's entire life (not under cover) and the last time I washed or waxed it was years ago. Would definitely recommend this vehicle for reliability.

Rust.
Rust. The rust coming threw the paint is symmetrical on both side of the car. Top of rear doors, around rear window, around all screws inside all doors. After 6 months started noticing it. Went to Esperance mitsubishi and they said no warranty. Have to report paint defects with in first 3 months. They rekon its from me bush bashing. Really, around the back window and down between rrar cab and tub??? Been quoted nearly $3000 to fix. Shouldn't have to touch paint on a car that old.

water in the diff on my triton
What an annoying week standard breather is on the rear diff of a Triton.I extended my breather before my big trip & yes you can let your components cooldown before a river crossing BUT when you have a few hundred k's of road with fords every 1-2 k's its going to be a very long day. My Triton let water in thru the pinion shaft seal, warranty cancelled because I extended the breather on the rear diff...Funny how the Front diff has a breather up below the windscreen . WARNING fording depth of a TRITON is 50mm

mn triton do yourself a favour
I bought an ex government MN Triton, It was sort of okay, but me being me I put a hotdog muffler on it so it could breath better, and I only put the hotdog on for the legality of having a muffler, then I had a company called Morpowa do a remap of the engine management system, so now I have an extra 150 nm of torque, and an extra 50 odd kilowatts of power, so at the flywheel I'm at 183 kilowatts against the stated 131 kw, I put a TJM T13 bullbar on it,with a 13000 lb winch, and the result is that I definately need to upgrade the suspension (whi...Read more
ch I intended to do anyway) so I am very happy. there is still some turbo lag, but I can live with that, I have found if I just ease the throttle it takes off leaving the traffic behind, so I don't see the need to muck around with aftermarket fuel rail devices. this will end up costing just over 3 grand for everything, so I still have a good 4WD at a very good price. value for money I am very happy indeed. I bought it at 52000 km, paid 24k plus on road tax etc, new wheels, and tyres, plus everything else I have done total cost of after stuff 4.2k so all up this has cost me a tad under 30k for an almost new 4WD ute, I could resell it for more than I have shelled out easily.Similar opinion? Great car
This is second Triton that I have owned and really happy with both of them. Yes had really small issues with the current one but I do drive it hard and carries lots of weight . Nearly 100000 on the clock in 2.5 years. Way better then my old Mans navara. My brother in law has hilux, good car but he gets 500-550 out of tank while I Get around 700-750 km per tank of diesel. So some people do get bad ones, as with other brands but doesn't mean they are all bad. With warranty side of things, Mitsubishi has been good. All the things that needed fix up have been done. Only thing that has annoyed me a bit was squeaky suspension but put a lift kit on it and problem solved.would buy again

I purchased my triton in 2013, and havent had any problem with it al all, I have taken it from Melb to Ipswich, and it never missed a beat, and for the past 9 months I have been using it as a tow vehicle for my small caravan (Avan) and it has handled the task very well, Im very happy with it.

MN Triton 2015
6 months into owning my first new car, I got the new Triton with extras all for 15k cheaper than the current competition. I understand the newer models and brands have a lot more tech but as for as bang for buck this ute is great! It is happy for short drives, long drives 4x4 through deep sand. Great fuel eco (750kms a tank).
I wish it has a little more power but it's still got a decent amount of it.
It's very comfy to drive daily and would recommend one to my friends.
Anyway to issues yet and I am happy to have bought it.

Engine Problems
Purchased a 2012 Triton in runout sale in early 2013. At first was very happy with the ute... Plenty of power, comfortable seats (even in the back). Serviced it at proper times through dealership. Noticed from the start that the temperature guage sat on the high side; was told that's normal by dealership.
At 48000 km boiled the ute. Plenty of fluid in radiator. Towed back to dealership. Told it had a faulty engine that would have to be replaced (under warranty of course).
Got ute back with new engine. Temperature guage still sits high.

Best Car I've ever owned. 2010 GLX-R Auto 2.5L
Picked up a city car that had done little to no off-roading with almost 140k on the clock. Looks and feels like a new car. The engine is very strong but does have that turbo lag people talk about, though it is getting to be a non-issues after a bit of getting used to. Straight away I tossed the Bridgestone 245/65R17 H/T tires and put on an aggressive set of A/T 265/65R17s which actually make the speedo almost exactly accurate [according to GPS]. This didn't change the fuel economy much, still getting a fraction over 10L/100km on highway with th...Read more
e family in the car, around 11 to 12km/100km in town. The transmission is smooth and tip-tronic fun to play with plus handy for saving brakes when going down hills. Suspension was a bit bouncy, would have been a nightmare on a corrugated gravel road, but with the added weight of a canopy it seems to be nice and cushy now, soaking up bumps perfectly. Love the rear electric window in the GLX-R, gets the hot air pushed out of the car quickly on a summer's day. It has after market bluetooth and reversing camera which are bonuses. Audio and cruise controls on the steering wheel are awesome and the seating is quite comfy considering i have lower back problems. Managed to sit for a 6 hour journey with a couple of stretching stops, but may invest in sheepskin covers as recommended by others to see if it makes them even better. The headrest is my biggest comfort complaint, it sits too far forward making me unable to lay back totally against the backrest. Putting it up higher helped a bit but I might try to modify it somehow so I can sit right back into the seat without it pushing my chin into my chest. The only other gripe with the interior is the sunglass holder won't fit my sunnies - third world problem I know :) I haven't off roaded yet but as soon as I do I will report back. If it is anything like the nineties Pajero automatics then it will not disappoint. Love this car, so glad I stuck with the triple diamond!2 comments
Fast forward 9 months and just shy of 20,000km - the replacement engine overheated while off-roading up some nice hills. Coolant overflowed from reservoir and temps got into the 105°C plus. Going back... Read more
for an assessment in couple of weeks. When the engine gets hot up long hill climbs the auto transmission plays up as well. It gets stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear and you cannot shift it in manual mode either. It takes a while to cool and then by putting in neutral it'll unstick. The deraler knows abnout the issue but has no advice on how to rectify it. I just hope these issues will be resolved once and for all, it has totally changed my rating for this car. I wish I could edit my first rating, it's no longer 5 stars, probably down to 2. I did fit dimpled disc brakes and new pads which made the braking top notch. New mud terrain tyres have greatly improved the off road capabilities and the winch is awesome, got me out of a very sticky situation. Dual battery system with solar and charge controller have made it reliable [no more flat batteries]. Now I can run the fridge, stereo and whatever without fear of not being able to start it up. Will post up the results from the engine issues once it has been looked at.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Completely different ute after the right mechanic !
When I brought my 2010 MN brand new I loved it !! Then things started going wrong. I had problems; the first week the motor conked out- simple fix with rerouting wiring which had been rubbing on a bolt head, then with turbo lag which Mitsubishi fobbed off as nothing but we actually had a friend who worked as a mechanic there (and didnt realise it was my ute) and said he'd fitted a new exhaust manifold on it, then a sensor issue, then a synchro ring into third gear and when I got it back that day it was running louder and didn't sound right. It ...Read more
frequently had problems with surging and when Mitsubishi would hook it up they'd tell me they could find no errors. My local mechanic would hook it up and with a simple resetting the injectors it was fine again or flushing the carbon build up (which no one tells you when you buy a diesel these days !) We moved to Victoria temporarily where I took it straight to Kings Mitsubishi. They pulled her apart and told me what had (or most likely had not!!) been done properly which resulted in them having my ute for a good period of time repairing the gear box. Since getting it back from Kings Mitsubishi it's great and reliable!! Faultless now ! Shame I had to move interstate to literally get it taken care of. Outside of those teething problems I do really like this ute. It's comfortable and very roomy for families ! for the lump of vehicle it is, its cheap to run! I did say in my original review that I probably wouldn't buy another Triton, but honestly its been that good since and no issues (with now 181,000klm on the clock) yes I probably would buy another Triton and yes I probably would park it back on the boat and take it back to Victoria for a major repair ;)Similar opinion? Love It ...
Traded my Great Wall cab chassis on a new 2014 4x4 Triton Manual dual cab & have just clocked up 10,000 km.
Purchased the Std model with alloys & sidesteps. Got it at a great price from Heartland Mitsubishi as they where clearing to make way for the latest model.
Love nearly everything about this car. Plenty of power, 8.5 litre per 100km, comfortable, options are adequate for me & turbo lag minimal (compared to the Great Wall which was just dangerous)
Its handles a bit like a wet sponge but as I'm no boy racer, doesn't really bother me.
Should have just got one of these in the first place!
Added 5/5/2016
Just clocked up 26,000 km and still no problems.
Just clocked up trouble free 65,000 km

2014 MN GLXR - Fantastic Ute, Great Value for Money!
My 2014 MN GLXR has been fantastic so far. After reviewing the prices and specifications of some the big name brand Utes (Hilux, Colorado, Ranger) I couldn't go past the value for money on the MN Triton GLXR. It gave me everything i was after for considerably less money and in my opinion i didn't have to sacrifice quality or performance. I have had the Ute 25000km now and i have had no major issues. I had the gear knob replaced under warranty as the leather began to peel however Mitsubishi replaced the knob without question so no complaints there.
I would recommend the Ute to others!

Surging at 100km when in cruise control on down hill incline
The above problem has occurred since 32,000 km. Took it to one dealer and they did not test it at this speed but they did tighten the towbar tounge. 2nd dealer found the problem checked all settings and modifications such as the new location of the EGR valve etc.
This is were Mitsubishi Head Office stepped in and clear thinking tended to stop. I returned to the dealer who under instruction from MHO to take photo's of the car and anything that may show abuse, ensure it had been appropriately serviced, test the oil for suitability and this leave...Read more

Unknown heat from both side transmission
After two year driving, I just realize heat from both side of gear box after few km's driving.
Ask for help from local Mitsubishi dealer which is nothing can be found, as head office people advise I have to contact service manager in local Mitsubishi which I did in this morning.
However he said this issue due to triton design exhaust system and gear box close so make side hot which I totally not acceptable. This is not right must be do the further investigation.
I have to contact head office again to find solution.Still wait for respond

An update for this review after 2 years of owning:
springs are now turned upside down they are so worn, but after 6 years I guess they will do that. New suspension going in this week I hope with a 50mm lift. I have driven off road quite a bit and it is okay on rough roads except for the saggy rear end. Put it into 4x4 doing 80 km/h no worries and it feels so much better on corners and corrugations. Apart from the canopy, I have fitted a roof cage with solar panel, second battery in the back for the fridge and a better stereo. I lost the steering volume controls doing this but if I wanted to spend the extra money I can get the wiring interface. Plenty of camping trips and no problems towing a camper trailer. In fact, the economy towing our camper with a family of five on board was 11.5L/100km on highway. The economy without camper and 180,000km on the clock, driving on highway to Melbourne was still 10.5L/100km.Still happy with the car. No major issues at all and I have now 180,000km on the clock. I have added a canopy which made the back end sag a bit. The... Read more
