Was looking at buying a 2014 Silverline SE D40 Nissan Navara Manual diesel with 104,000 kms on it for around $16,990. Would this be a wise investment or is there better value around?

Good morning Jake, like many older cars precautionary measures must be taken.
At 104k there's alot to take in to consideration and being euro addition engines they will be bloody noisy especially with the dry diesel we have here.
The timing chain needs to be replaced if it already hasn't. The second will be the clutch and fly wheel. These are major issues that Need to be addressed when looking at these utes. I believe they "fixed" the death wobble in this series but due diligence will pay off.
Fuel injectors and the common fuel rail. Using a cheap obd2 bluetooth scanner, When test driving at operational temp. Listen while decelerating if there's a rattle, see if the fuel rail pressure spikes past 30k psi. If it does don't buy it!! It will be expensive later. Lol be sure to check the injectors for leaks or ask if they have been replaced. Because they're expensive.
Check the oil cap for any sludge buildup.. If there is don't buy!!
Always ask for its operational history. E.g. what type of driving it did most of its life. Highway and longer than 30 minutes driving time would be preferable .. as these dpfs can be on their last legs.
Check the egr if you can. Difficult to do so when looking over a car. But this will be another issue if it's dodgy to stay with.
Be sure to check the gear box check the entire range and make sure they all drive as they should and smoothly.
Look I would suggest this. Buy it if you know the buyer and how the car has been treated.. If not look at the D23 instead. 2016 is where i say to start.
Money is money.. and you don't want to waste it. D40s to me are a stay away ute. Just too many what ifs.. that being said I work with 2 who have the D40s. 2007 and 2010.. both run smoothly. But both are owned by deisel mechanics lol.

Sorry to say Nick i haven't personally driven one .. or worked on one.. I know of a few people that have and both mixed answers.. I would say take all necessary precaution in purchasing such a car.. usually the reason why people sell such cars is because it's on its last legs.. check all the usual spots and take your time to go over it ..

I recently purchased a d22 str 2.5 turbo diesel 2013 I’ve had it about a week and have noticed it’s blowing a fair amount of smoke and is also fluctuating whilst cruising at a constant speed any ideas what it could be ? Thankyou

This model has always blown a lot of smoke under load example accelerating my D22 that I've had from brand new has always blowing smoke while accelerating your other problem fluctuating when cruising depending on how many kilometres it's done and how well it's been serviced could be anything from a bad injector water in the fuel or even a carbon up EGR valve my advice would be to talk to a diesel expert because long-term it could seriously damage or destroy the motor

I have a 2007 yd25 turbo and when running bubbles emerges for the radiator constantly, it's doesn't stop. We did a compression check on the radiator for 24 hours and didn't drop which means their is no leak or blown head so where is the air comming from

How come my navara d22 2003 str will not stop over heating on big drives like 45 mins away from my house.. I have replaced the radiator which had been replaced by a mechanic and checked thoroughly with no luck to rectify this issue. Any ideas what it could be? Thanks for your help again.

My diesel navara d22 2003 str will not stop over heating on big drives. Such as in to the city from my house which is about 45 mins away. Good around town. Has had valves cleaned and some replaced. Fuel injectors done. Fuel filter is new. Radiator is new and been flushed and air has been taken out of the radiator. Bled it too. Air con has been done too. Any ideas what it could be. Thanks in advance.
