Katrina, I'm wondering whether you are using the right strainer? You need the fine one to screen out more of the pulp, and the coarser strainer is good for smoothies. If you have further questions, ask Froothie - they have good customer service. Good luck, it's a great juicer and provides far more juice than other ones I've had in the past.

Optimum Appliances
Athena Solutions Pty LtdOptimum Appliances

Hi Katrina, I can definitely help you out with that! I’d be glad to :-)
Here are a few points we've compiled that are important to achieving the best results:

1) Do not press/shove food into the juicer - Do not use a pushing/pressing/shoving force with the Optimum Juicer or any other slow juicer. There is no spinning blade and no dizzying shredding taking place. No pressing is required. Instead, simply let your food fall into the "chewing auger." Virtually no force is necessary, and forcing more food into the chute can cause too much vegetable mass to clog in the auger, resulting in pulp overflowing into your juice, or the juicer becoming blocked.
When juicing grasses, feed the Optimum Juicer a small amount of grass at a time, cutting the grass into short pieces approximately 3cm long. This ensures the waste can easily come out of the waste chute. You do not need to "clump" the grass into a ball. In fact, you can slowly feed small strands of grass, coriander, parsley, kale, spinach and other leafy greens without any force necessary.

A great tip for large leafy, stringy or fibrous vegetables is to remove the leaf from the stem, cut both leaves and stems into 3-5cm lengths and feed through gently, letting the auger pull the ingredients into the juicer, using the tamper only gently if required.
2) Juice low-fibre plants first, and high-fibre plants last - Here's a really important tip: If you're going to juice high-fibre plants like celery or spinach, juice them last! Why? Because the fibres in celery tends to accumulate in the ejection port at the bottom of the juicing auger. If this port becomes clogged, then "pulp overflow" will occur, sending extra pulp into your juice. Following Tip #1 though will minimise the chances of this occurring to almost zero.
As long as the ejection port stays open, the pulp in your juice will be minimised. The best way to do this is to juice low-fibre fruits and veggies first: Apples, carrots, etc. and saving the stringier, fibrous plants for last. This will lead to a much better result when your concern is the amount of pulp in the final juice.
NB: If you are planning on juicing large amounts and do not mind a very small amount of pulp in the juice another alternative (to ensure you do not block the juicer), is to alternate your leafy greens and stringy items, with the harder items like carrot and beetroot.
3) Insert red plug correctly - Make sure the red rubber plug/tongue/stopper on the underside of the juicing bowl, is correctly inserted into its slot. This part is removable to assist with cleaning but often not reinserted correctly. It acts as a pressure point to ensure pulp ejects from the waste chute.
4) Juice your juice - If you still find too much pulp in your juice, simply pour the juice back through the machine again and you will find that the second time through, nearly all the pulp is removed. You can also strain it through a nut-milk bag, if you wish, but that takes more time and effort.

Can pineapple be placed in the juicer without peeling it, also with pineapple do you have to take the middle core out of the pineapple first?

3 answers

KtB

Absolutely - I regularly juice a whole pineapple. The peel has most of the bromelain in it, so keep it on, but it's a good idea to just roughly grate the skin back a bit, so that there's no risk of blocking the juicer. Leave the central core in, except for the very end bit. You can either slice the pineapple thickly and then cut each slice into thirds, or cut the whole pineapple into strips lengthwise - either is fine.
Hope this helps!

Yes you can juice whole pineapples. I remove the leaves and also cut the spikey skin off purely to save unnecessary strain on the machine but the juicer is tough and can handle it.

Hello Kerry, better late than never :)
We could not have said it better than KtB and Tiff1971!

Here are some more juicing tips:

You can find tips on using a slow juicer and avoiding any blockage while reducing pulp here: froothie.com.au/Juicer-FAQ.php

Tip #1) Do not press/shove food into the juicer

Most of us have juiced with the old-style centrifugal juicing machines. If you recall, those machines require you to forcefully press/shove food into them, and allow large items like whole apples. You are required to push hard on carrots and apples to shove them into the spinning blade where they are shredded into tiny flying pieces.

Do not use this same pushing/pressing/shoving force with the Optimum Juicer or any other slow juicer.

When I start using the optimum 600 was all good but with the time I ear crackling noises when I juice carrots or beetroots I cut the carrots and beetroot in small pieces as I'm used to the optimum 400 plus I know that is easy for the juicer.
As well the motor doesn't seem to work anymore.

I hand wash it, but I don't find that it takes that long. There are no dishwasher symbols on anything, so I tend to go with that. I have a sink of hot water and detergent and most of the parts just need a quick rinse really.

Optimum Appliances
Athena Solutions Pty LtdOptimum Appliances

Thank you John for the great feedback on your Optimum 600 :) As mentioned by Shirl, the parts are not dishwasher proof. However, we can share the following cleaning tips:

Use two glasses of warm water to rinse the juicer
Add a glass of warm water while the drain valve is closed so that the water remains in the juicing bowl. Press the reverse button to ensure that the pulp is pushed out of the juicer.
Turn the drain valve open allowing the water to flow out. You can then rinse the parts normally and use the cleaning brush supplied.

Hi, How noisy is the juicer? In one video I watched it sounded quite noisy when certain fruits/veggies are added. Is this the case?

1 answer
Optimum Appliances
Mario N.Optimum Appliances

Thank you for your message.

The Optimum 600 is a whole mouth slow juicer able to juice large pieces of vegetables and greens without cutting. This means that the larger auger (black juicing screw) will be crushing large quantities of ingredients.

Consequently, the Optimum 600 may sometimes make a loud noise caused by the contents being crushed. This can happen more often with large leafy greens and hard ingredients such as carrots and will always occur with large mouth cold press juicers.

The decibels for the Optimum 600 are from 40 to 60, depending on what you are juicing.

We hope this helps :)

LindyLou
LindyLou

I've found over mm any yrs of juicing that cold press juicers need some hard root vegetables such as carrots or beets to work most effectively. I always do the soft fruit 1st & fin with a carrot or 2. Carries are sweet, mild in flavour & won't alter the taste of your fruit juice very much if at all.
Cheers Linda

Optimum Appliances
Mario N.Optimum Appliances

We are sorry to hear of the issue you are facing. Since the stopper is correctly inserted, the issue could come from the pressure that is applied when the ingredients are being fed into the juicer. You simply need to gently lead the ingredients towards the auger with no force as applying too much force into the chute can cause too much vegetable mass to clog around the auger resulting in pulp overflowing in your juice or the juicer becoming blocked.

Hi Danni,

Thank you for your query,

The Optimum 600 operates via a masticating (chewing) method to produce a high quality juice. In contrast to the tearing extraction and high speeds of centrifugal juicers, slow juicers function at lower speeds and gently compress fruit and vegetables to ‘press’ out their juice, with the Optimum being the best on the market at only 65 RPM.

The Optimum 600 is a larger and more powerful model compared to the Optimum 500, with a wide-mouth chute able to juice whole fruits and vegetables.

Hello ACBCOCHC,

Thank you for your query.

When Juicing with the Optimum 600 there are two different strainers you can use, the fine strainer and the coarse strainer.
The fine strainer eliminates all pulp while the coarse strainer is used to make a more pulpy juice, or smoothie.

The Optimum 600 also comes with a third strainer for making Nut Butters and Ice Creams.

As of December 2015 the Optimum 600 now comes with an additional sieve, for an even more pulp free juice.

Hello Ayare,
For a deep clean we recommend soaking the strainer in a solution of one cup of white vinegar to two cups of water. Let the parts soak for several hours, then empty the water out and use a soft pot scrubber and the cleaning brush (do not use a harsh/high abrasive scrubber as this could cause the plastic to go cloudy) to clean the parts.

Hello,
I am needing some help in cleaning and setting up the Optimum 600 properly, in particular page 4 step 1 and the step 5 page 10 of the manual - both referring to the compression silicone. Can someone please post a photo if possible to show what it means when page 4 writes ''Place the compression silicone piece partway into the slot...Ensure the most (around 60%) of the silicone remains outside of the slot" (?). I can't seem to 'pry' the compression silicone under the base to 'ensure' 60% is outside the slot. It seems I need to loosen up the screw to do this - which I dare not to in case I void the warranty. Secondly in cleaning, I dare not 'remove' compression silicone by taking the small screw out under the base in case voiding the warranty.

Anyway, long story short, have been using the juicer as is, but is that the right way in term of using, cleaning and maintenance.

Cheers and Thank you for your help.

Hahaha. We must the only ones reading the manuals... This is what I mean confusing - I took the middle piece without the screw out.

The one you are referring is the correct piece. It's shaped like a chopper knife with the screw. Customer Service initially told me, "you are NOT supposed to take out the screw!" Anyway, this should be the piece parallel to the pulp outlet on the other end. Just pull out a bit. If you have the screw and the Juice (not pulp) outlet facing you upside down, you lift up a bit and pull out to the left. I believe this is how it should be done.

I don't know how long this piece is going to last if it's only a tiny bit for your fingers to be pulling out.

It's too time consuming for me. I'm returning the product and doing some research to get another.

Happy Juicing.

Ninaliv
Ninaliv

When I first started using the juicer, I found it reasonably difficult to pry out the compression silicone and also wondered whether the screw needed to be loosened. However, with a bit of force it came out and since then it's been relatively easy to manipulate, You don't have to remove it to clean the bowl - simply open pull it out and run water through the spout (after removing the remaining pulp with the tip of the cleaning toothbrush gadget). When I handle the compression silicone, I make a point of handling it from the centre top to avoid putting tension on the end bit. I'm using the juicer every morning (much to the delight of my family) and it's working like a charm.

Cheers

Hello Zkaizen, thank you for your query.

As pictured in the manual there is a small tab on the end of the silicon stopper, this is the part that is used to pull the stopper out of the chute (NOT detach from the juicer). When placing the silicone stopper back into the slot, simply place it partly in rather than forcing it all the way.

The stopper can be pulled out of the slot (NOT detached from the juicer) for cleaning (as well as making nut butters and ice-creams), however you will never be required to detach it from the juicer. The screw should never be removed and the plug should always be attached to the juicer. What the manual refers to is simply the plugging and unplugging of the bottom of the pulp chute and not the removal of the plug.
