Will the 8200 cope with making protein balls? Specifically, dates, peanut butter, honey and thicker substances like these maybe once a week or fortnight? Does it make dough like the 9400? And can anyone tell me what size jug the 9400 comes with? Thankyou :)

The 8200 has a 2238 watt motor; the various nutri brands have around 700 watt motors. So I have no doubt that it can cope with thicker substances. Both the 9400 and the 8200 have the same size motor. I have pulsed frozen mango pieces successfully; I also use the 8200 to grind flax and chia seeds into a fine powder (takes only a few seconds). If you go to http://www.froothie.com.au/optimum-8200 and then scroll down and click on "what you can make" it gives quite a detailed list there. Whether the list is all comprehensive or not I do not know.
I do not make dough with mine, so I cannot comment on that aspect. So if you pose that question to Froothie themselves, they should be able to clarify it for you. Also the jug size for the 9400.
My understanding is that the major differences between the 8200 and the 9400 lie in the settings. Where the 9400 has 9 speed dial settings, the 8200 has three settings - slow, medium, fast.
Hope that helps.

Hello Oggys,

Thank you very much for your query. The Optimum 8200 is absolutely able to be used to make thicker mixtures including protein balls using dates, nuts and honey.

The Optimum 9400 and 8200 are able to be used for the same functions, including dough; due to the stronger motor and speed of the Optimum 9400, along with the longer blades, it is a quicker and easier to knead dough with the 9400 model.

The Optimum 9400 comes with a 2L Jug.

Hope this helps, for further queries you can contact our 24/7 Support Team at www.froothiesupport.com

Kind Regards :-)

Hi Hayley, if you give me your email address I can send you a copy of the 2 page Warranty Terms and Conditions. Just send it to my email: [email protected]
Of all the countless reviews I read before buying, it was clear that many inferior blenders like the Nutribullet have serious issues with the motor burning and smoking within months. I don't recall seeing any such complaints about the Optimum 8200. The quality is terrific. But best you check all the terms of the warranty yourself...

Actually the terms and conditions are on the website. Google optimum 8200.

If you make more than half a jug full at a time, expect to burn this one out too. It does have a 5yr warrenty though. My guess is that there just isn't a good well priced blender out there.

Hello Lou1000, we are not aware of current plans to improve the design of the Optimum 8200 however new models are being launched later this year by Optimum for various products, including the high-speed Vortex Blender range. Any such announcements will be made on our website and Facebook page :-)

I doubt that these are impartial. Froothie has offered the chance to win a food dehydrator to those who put up a review.

I did my review without any knowledge of a dehydrated offer or any offer so please do not second guess reviewers intentions. My review was 28 October. Plus people can review negatively or positively, either way it's a review.

Hi Marie... If you use Google you will find the Froothie website and you can compare. I don't know the difference except the 8200 is about $300 and is certainly good enough or better for the average household. Nutribullit are temperamental and not as durable or powerful.see

Hi Marie!

Below is a great comparison between the Optimum 8200 and the 9200A (2nd Generation)

The Optimum 9200A is a higher quality appliance to the Optimum 8200. Below is a summary of the differences:

- The Optimum 9200A has a faster and significantly more powerful motor. This leads to quicker blending and better consistency for thick contents
- The 9200A’s blade assembly have more seals and better quality custom-made alloy ball bearings, leading to increased longevity and the ability to be used commercially with no issues
- The longer blades of the 9200A also allows it to chop, grind and slice more effectively
- The 9200A has an iron cooling fan for the motor vs. plastic for the 8200
- The Optimum 9200A and 9400 have one of the industry’s most advanced PCB Boards for the motor equipped with Automatic Torque Control, meaning the motor will automatically change power based on what you are blending, leading to better performance and increased longevity

The Optimum 9200A is currently our most popular model

The 8200 is a great affordable blender, easily outperforming the likes of NutriBullet

Is the recipe book that comes with the 8200 any good? My husband is diabetic and one of my children hates eating their veges and fruit so smoothies seem like a good option.

Hi, The recipe book looks good. I have not used it as I just make a similar smoothie each morning. I use the blender as a Nutribullit. However this blender is great solid quality, with variable speeds and times etc. The blender chops up all the vegies pretty well, so its not that gritty and easy to drink etc... Cheers Greg

Yes it is. Also find many recipes on line. I find that with children I can disguise the veggies in recipes like spaghetti bolognaise, meatballs and hamburger type foods. The optimum 8200 blends the veggies so fine that children do not realise what they are eating. Woohoo!

Hi there,
What is the best jug size to use with the 8200, I was erring on the side of the the 2 litre jug, but it sounds like most people are getting good results with the standard 1.5 litre jug? What are the pros and cons of either jug?

Hi MEL, we have the 2 litre and are very happy with it, although I have to admit that I have not had it full as yet, but good to know I have the extra capacity if I need it. Hope this helps your decision.

Bekkie
Bekkie

I got the 2 litre jug and fill it to max with almost every use. If you want to have smoothies instead of a meal, it's nice to have a very big filling one! But even when I don't want a big one, like if I'm on my way out the door, it's really nice to be able to make a smoothie for myself and my roommate (or she makes it!), in just one go, instead of two, saving time and effort. Taste results should be just as good with the smaller, so it depends on what you will be using it for. I find the extra room very handy, and can see no cons except the small extra cost which was well worth it for me.

Optimum Appliances
Athena Solutions Pty LtdOptimum Appliances

Hello Mel, better late than never :)
I hope your question was already resolved and you are already creating delicious smoothies, soups and more with your blender.

For everybody else that has a question about the jug size: The current Optimum 8200, 9400 and 9200A come with a 2l jug. However we do offer 1.5l jugs for the 8200 and the 9200A that can be purchased separately. For the Optimum 9400 we offer 750ml jugs.

In general you can also blend less ingredients with the 2l jug, the rule is to ensure that the ingredients cover the blades for at least 1cm

Hope that helps :)

I use a lot of frozen fruit such as, mango blackberry bluberry and they are blended in seconds,I havenoticed the 8200 does not completely break down small seeds found in strawberries kiwifruit and berries.

Optimum Appliances
Athena Solutions Pty LtdOptimum Appliances

Hello meliheinrich, better late than never :)
The Optimum blenders can definitely blend frozen fruit!

Here are a few blending tips:

To process vegetables:
1. For best results, cut the food material into small pieces. You do not need to remove peel,
kernels or seeds as the blender will blend these completely.
2. Put the pieces into the blender jug, and then add water until the jug is 2/3 full.
3. Securely insert the lid (with the lid plug in position).
4. Begin blending on SLOW speed and increase to FAST speed until the food is at the desired
consistency.

To get the best results, place food in the jug in the following order:
1. First liquids.
2. Then soft foods/vegetables.
3. Last add frozen produce and ice.

You can also check our YouTube channel youtube.com/user/FroothieTV for some recipe ideas.

Hope that helps!

I have never had this problem, although it doesn't like it much if I put harder vegs in in large chunks without putting the water in first but smaller chunks makes things go a lot smoother .

As it is a blender, not a juicer, it retains all the healthy fiber, so it can be quite thick. I just add extra water/coconut water/rice milk, and it is fine - quite filling actually. I am very much in love with my blender :)

I have not used or tried the 9400. The difference in price though is significant. The 8200 does everything it says it will do. We make green smoothies every morning. I make mango smoothies also that you eat with a spoon, with only ice and a little milk added to the mango. It depends what you really want to use it for. How much power do you need?

I guess it comes down to your needs. We wanted it for smoothies 3-4 times a week and ice drinks during summer. We didnt have a blender so weren't sure how much use it would get. Very happy with product quality and performance. If u are an experienced blender I would go for the 9400 but if ur a newbie like us (and a little strapped for cash) the 8200 is a fantastic option and good alternative to the NutriBullet which is the same price.

My family loves Boost juices and crushes and want to replicate that taste at home by using chunks of fruit (some frozen) and ice. Therefore we're looking for an affordable blender that will handle all of this. Is the 8200 up to it? Also with raspberries, does it blend up the seeds?

I use frozen fruit and ice and the 8200 has no problem with it at all..i have even put half carrots, beetroots in there and it blitzes them no problem at all... I have tried raspberries and you can still find the odd little grainy bits of seeds but not huge amount...I guess if you want to spent 3-4x the cost so that you can have a silky smooth smoothie then thats your prerogative but personally i find the 8200 does a magnificent job for everything i have put in it so far and i am still experimenting 3 weeks in :-)

Not really sure Elaine on the differences. I got the 8200 because it was in my budget..I think the warranty is 10 years on the other models and they have a little more grunt with speeds slightly faster. I find mine does what i want it to do perfectly!

Optimum Appliances
Athena Solutions Pty LtdOptimum Appliances

Hello Elaine, better late than never:

The Optimum 9200A (2nd gen) and the 9400 are higher quality appliances to the Optimum 8200. Below is a summary of the differences:

The Optimum 9200A/9400 have a faster and more powerful motor. This leads to quicker blending and better consistency for thick contents

The longer blades of the 9400 also allows it to chop, grind and slice more effectively (Note: The 8200 still has longer blades than most competition like Omniblend for example)

The 9200A/9400 have an iron cooling fan for the motor vs. plastic for the 8200

The 9200A/9400 also have a metal plate at the bottom of the jug instead of plastic

The bearings of the 9200A/9400 have more seals and better quality ball bearings, leading to increased longevity and the ability to be used commercially with no issues
The Optimum 9200A 2nd Gen is a commercial grade blender that can be used commercially up to 500 – 600 times a day where the Optimum 8200 blender is only for domestic use.

Although the 8200 is less advanced than the 9400/9200A blender it is a great affordable blender, still better than other high speed blenders in the same price range and even some more expensive blenders like Omniblend, NutriBullet, Breville and Sunbeam.

The main difference between the 9200A and the 9400 is functionality:
Dial (9400) vs. Buttons (9200A)
The Dial allows for more finite control, while the buttons provide automatic timer functions which is great for smoothies and juices on the go.
