Hi Lil,

Thank you for your query,

The Optimum 8200 high speed blender is absolutely capable of blending rice (cooked) and boiled meat, we have many customers who use the blender for this purpose, for example blending a casserole.
It can even blend through raw rice, milling it into rice flour

I'm not sure, Lil. However, when you say, grind, I'd say it would be capable of blending cooked rice and boiled meat - not that I've used mine for that. Michelle

I have previously bought an Optimum 8200 and am delighted with it. I recommended it to a friend and as I searched through your reviews and information for her, a Buy Now sign pops up saying Optimum 8200 is $299, then when I follow the link to the official website, the price is $339. So what is the official price of this model? If the $299 is not correct it should be removed from your website. Please advise if it is available at $299. Thanks, Lois Ryan

I think you should speak with the customer service team about that. There is possibly a tool they can send to you if it's simply a matter of tightening the blades to the unit (which I understand is done from the bottom of the jug - underneath - not inside) if that makes sense.

Helenasked

I have been using a standard Greville blender for some time. It is fine, but when blending frozen bananas, for example, the food gets stuck easily. My Magimix food processor has also just 'died', so I thought I might replace it and the blender with a new stronger blender. My research brought up Magimix and KitchenAid blenders, but hone i saw the Optimum 8200.

Can you please advise as to how the Optimum might compare to my current Breville, and the Magimix and KitchenAid versions that I have been looking at?

Thank you:)

Launchmore

Dear Helen, I was using an old Sharp before I purchased the Optimum 8200. My main concern was to get a machine that moved everything around the blades, to ensure everything was properly blended. I must say, I couldn't be happier with the Optimum 8200. I use it every day, with bananas (not frozen), frozen fruit, yoghurt and milk, and every time, no issues - perfect smoothies. I do have a Magimix, but I use that for making lemon curd, and hommos. I know I could use the Optimum for that, but it's purely out of habit. As for the Optimum, it is excellent. You can see that everything is moved around the blades beautifully - nothing gets stuck, and needs prodding - it really is a fabulous product. I have no reservations. Michelle

Helen
Helen

Thank you so much, Michelle...my Magimix has just died so I think I will give the Opti a go:)

Did you consider the 9-series?

Optimum Appliances
Mario N.Optimum Appliances

Hi Helen,

Thank you for your query,

The Optimum 8200 is a great affordable blender, able to perform many functions that you would expect of a high speed blender. This includes blending frozen fruits such as bananas.

A great comparison to the Breville blender can be viewed on our website via this link https://www.froothie.com.au/breville-boss-to-go-comparison-review with the main difference being that the Optimum is faster and much more powerful.

This is also the case when compared to the Magimix and KitchenAid blenders (either the KSB560 or their diamond blender) the Optimum is again much faster and much more powerful.

Due to the high speed of the blades and the powerful motor, a glass is an unsafe option for high speed blenders like Optimum, the Magimix and KitchenAid both come with a glass jug – which leads us to believe that they are not high speed blenders.

Does it make nut butters and coconut butter?

2 answers
Michelle
Michelle

Yes, I've made nut butters with ease. I think it makes coconut butter too, haven't tried that one.

Optimum Appliances
Athena Solutions Pty LtdOptimum Appliances

Hello Garry, better late than never :)

The Optimum 8200 can easily make nut butters, blend ice and much more!

Here are a few tips and tricks on how to master nut butters and nut recipes:

Here are a few great How-To videos!

Kisane from Froothie TV!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyWFyaLeo9k

Candy from our office in Melbourne :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eio8gQWZS4Y

Sunny Side Up, our partner from Romania!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qeq_w5QsWXA

Here are a few points we've compiled that are important to achieving the best results

1. Roasted nuts release their oil content more readily than raw nuts, this makes the process of forming a butter quicker and simpler. The less time the nuts take to blend, the less heat is generated which is good for both the nuts and the blender! Note: the roasted nuts need to be completely cool before you attempt to blend them. This isn't to say you can't make nut butter from raw nuts but we suggest you get used to the process with roasted nuts first and then make the transition once you're comfortable!

2. High Speed - Make sure to use the highest speed on the blender when making any thick recipe, especially nut butter. Using high speed gets the job done faster, generating less heat and reducing strain on the motor.

3. Use the Tamper tool - The tamper tool needs to be used to constantly press the ingredients down from the sides of the jug, making sure it's being processed by the blades. Air pockets will naturally form if nothing is done to stop them so we recommend constantly tamping around the edge of the jug until the process is completed. Note: Make sure not to rest the tamper in the center of the jug (directly above the blades) while blending, this will effectively close the center of the vortex and block air from circulating.

4. Make sure the nuts are dry - If you soak or activate nuts for nut butter, please ensure that they're totally dry before attempting to blend. Using a dehydrator will achieve the fasted/best results though make sure the nuts are totally cooled before blending.

5. Quantity - As a rule of thumb, you should always at least cover the blades by 1-2cm. We recommend a maximum of 3 to 4 cups of nuts to make sure you're not overloading the blender. This figure can vary depending on the natural oil content of the nuts. The higher the oil content, the larger the quantity that can be blended at once. On the contrary, if you're using nuts with lower oil content, a lower quantity may be applicable.

6. Adding liquid - Avoid adding water into the mixture, it will likely make the mixture clumpy and prevent it from properly forming butter. If you're adding any flavorings or powders, please add them once the butter has already formed. If the mixture is too dry, you can add small amounts of oil, we prefer an oil with a neutral flavor. This shouldn't affect blending, just flavor.

If you find the process taking far too long or notice any smoking or steaming coming from any part of the blender please stop the process and contact customer service to make sure your blender is functioning correctly.

Here are some great recipes to use:
https://www.froothie.com.au/veggie-vegan-and-raw-blender-recipes

To get the best results, place food in the jug in the following order:
1. First liquids.
2. Then soft foods/vegetables.
3. Last add frozen produce and ice.

Hope that helps!

Hi Bex, this blender does a fantastic job making smoothies and whole veg juices. I have never tried to knead dough for scones and as I look through the owner's manual, I cannot see any reference to that function. So I guess that's a 'no' to kneading dough. Hope that answers your question.

Hi Bex,

The Optimum 8200 can definitely perform the functions you have mentioned with ease, and the 9200A and 9400 can perform those functions even better :-)

Blending/juicing whole vegetables such as carrots, beetroot, pumpkin into juices, smoothies or soups is a very simple task for the Optimum, which has enough power to blend a whole avocado (including the stone) within seconds.

The Optimum is also able to make sorbets, hot soups, nut butters, nut milks, kneading dough, chopping/slicing and much more.

2 answers

Johnno

Hi Lizzi, the manufacturer stresses in their manual that product is not to be washed in a dishwasher, as it can cause damage to the bearings in the base of the blender. However it is very easy to clean. I just add some warm water, some detergent and run the blender on high for a minute. Cleaning finished.
Regards, John.

Optimum Appliances
Athena Solutions Pty LtdOptimum Appliances

Hi Lizzi :)

We do not recommend placing the jug or lid into the dishwasher as this may harm its components.

All Optimum jugs should be cleaned by the below steps.
1. After each use, rinse the jug thoroughly with warm water—not hot.
2. Place one to two drops of dish soap in your jug and fill it halfway with warm water.
3. Secure the lid in place
4. Start the machine on Variable Speed 1, slowly increase to Variable Speed 10, and then switch to High.
5. Run on High for 10-30 seconds.
6. Pour contents out and rinse thoroughly.
7. Turn the jug upside down and let air dry.
8. Check the base of the jug where the cog is, if this section has got wet please thoroughly dry it with a towel to ensure the bearing is not water damaged

For a deep clean, perform the following steps monthly or as needed:
Place 4 cups of cool water and 4 cups of white vinegar into the jug and let it soak for about four hours. Pour contents out and rinse thoroughly. Then follow the appropriate cleaning instructions above.

Have a lovely day :)

Hi DCH, I've not made any hot soups in my 8200 blender, but I regularly clean it, using boiling water and detergent. I leave the boiling water in the machine for 30/40 minutes and it hasn't damaged anything. I think it would be safe to assume that the 8200 would blend boiling hot ingredients with no issues. Thank you Johnno! I think the 8200 is more than enough for my needs and budget

Optimum Appliances
Athena Solutions Pty LtdOptimum Appliances

Hello Anne, better late than never :)

The Optimum 9200A (2nd gen) and the 9400 are higher quality appliances to the Optimum 8200. Below is a summary of the differences:

The Optimum 9200A/9400 have a faster and more powerful motor. This leads to quicker blending and better consistency for thick contents

The longer blades of the 9400 also allows it to chop, grind and slice more effectively (Note: The 8200 still has longer blades than most competition like Omniblend for example)

The 9200A/9400 have an iron cooling fan for the motor vs. plastic for the 8200

The 9200A/9400 also have a metal plate at the bottom of the jug instead of plastic

The bearings of the 9200A/9400 have more seals and better quality ball bearings, leading to increased longevity and the ability to be used commercially with no issues
The Optimum 9200A 2nd Gen is a commercial grade blender that can be used commercially up to 500 – 600 times a day where the Optimum 8200 blender is only for domestic use.

Although the 8200 is less advanced than the 9400/9200A blender it is a great affordable blender, still better than other high-speed blenders in the same price range and even some more expensive blenders like Omniblend, NutriBullet, Breville and Sunbeam.

The main difference between the 9200A and the 9400 is functionality:
Dial (9400) vs. Buttons (9200A)
The Dial allows for more finite control, while the buttons provide automatic timer functions which is great for smoothies and juices on the go.

I have had old fashion blenders in the past, where stuff gets half-mashed and stuck under the blades, rather than fully blended. While I have some reservations about the quality of the new bullet-style blenders (I'm not happy with my Nutribullet), they at least overcome this problem - even with thick frozen fruit mixtures. I think I read that the 8200 comes with a ramp down tool, so dies that mean you have to force foods into the vortex or dig it out from under the blades? I'd rather compromise on quality than deal with that frustration. All advice and comments welcome please.

Hi Paul, Well I'm fairly new to the world of blending, but our Optimum 8200 gets used every day with all manner of fruits and vegies, frozen and otherwise. The 'ramp down' tool is used to push materials down into the blades, particularly if your 'jug' is full and/or some of the lighter 'stuff' may not be draw into the blades depending on the height of the mixture - the tool also helps with ice cubes that sometimes may get tossed around initially before being shattered by the blades. We have NEVER had any materials 'half-mashed' or stuck under the blades. :) Oh....and the tool is a great way to give you an initial taste of your mixture...as you have no option but to lick it clean before washing it under the tap! :)

paul.e.p
paul.e.p

Thanks very much phil1, you have helped a lot :-)

Optimum Appliances
Mario N.Optimum Appliances

Hello Paul,

Anything which the NutriBullet can blend, the Optimum 8200 can blend more effectively without food being stuck under the blades and without the use of the tamper.

Optimum (and our main competitor Vitamix) offers customers a tamper to use when blending very thick contents like bliss balls, nut butters with no oil, desert bases, sorbets, etc. All functions which cannot be performed with the NutriBullet and most blenders.

Once the Optimum Vortex Blender is turned on, the high speed and shape of the jug will create a strong Vortex pulling the ingredients instantly and constantly towards the blades.

How does the Optimum 8200 perform when grinding whole flax seeds, sesame seeds, and chia seeds? Do these ingredients need to be put in first? How about wholegrain oats and coffee beans? Do you need to add oil when making peanut and almond butters? Thank you!

Every morning I grind flax (1 tablespoon) and chia (2 teaspoons) seeds in my 8200, using the high setting. Once the machine reaches its high speed, it takes only 2 or 3 seconds to grind them into a powder consistency. As I do not add any other ingredient there is nothing else to put in.
Whilst I have not ground wholegrain oats or coffee beans, I have no doubt that they will be easily and quickly ground to whatever consistency you wish.
As I do not make butters, I can not comment on this item.

Very silly question but once you have blended your smoothie, you then decant to a cup, etc. rather than the product coming with a smoothie drinking vessel? Just trying to decide on my next smoothie maker/blender, so trying to research this one vs the Nutri ninja.

4 answers

Hi Mum2abc,
Not a silly question at all! Yes, you simply pour the smoothie into a glass (or 2 or more as we regularly make enough for at least 2 people/glasses). Then, we half fill the 'jug' with water with a drop or 2 of dishwashing liquid and blend this for 30 seconds to clean. Yes, other products come with different sized drinking vessels, but the power of the Optimum and the quality of its build outweighed any issues to do with drinking vessels. What happens if you want to make 3 or 4 smoothies? You will still have to pour these into individual glasses/vessels. Good luck with your shopping around, I hope this helps. :)

JDS
JDS

No questions are silly. It all depends on what your circumstances are, and what each person regards as more important. We decant into a cup, because the volume we make each time is about 800 mls (which, by the way, I drink in one sitting - it is my lunch). But the 8200 will happily make a much smaller smoothie. My concern about making a smoothie for later consumption lies more in the area where foods tend to degrade quickly once they are "beaten to pulp". For example, when flaxseeds are ground, they start to go rancid within 15 minutes. And have you noticed how apples discolour (oxidise) where they are cut? So my preference is to consume my smoothie shortly after making it in order to gain the most nutritional benefit. And I do not have a problem with having to wash 2 items rather than one.

First of all I rinse out the jug with cold water, and the cap under running water. This is just to clear away most of the loose residues. Then I run warm/hot water into the jug (about half full), pour in a little "morning fresh", put the cap on, and run the blender on high for a few seconds. Finally rinse out the jug and cap until all suds are gone. Tip upside down and air dry. Simple. Occasionally the outside of the jug gets a wash down. I do not have a dishwasher.
