That is disappointing. There appear to be few option for elderly people in residential care who are not able to connect to a landline and adre unable to use mobile phones and tablets. We have to do better than this. SIM card home phones are needed.

We bought an Oricom CARE80 phone for my mother, who has a hearing aid, after extensive research, believing it to be the best option for her. However the volume is softer than a normal phone, despite adjusting all the volume controls to maximum. We have tried the phone on several different phone lines and it makes no difference. Neither does whether you call from either a mobile or landline to that phone. Both my husband and I, who have normal hearing, can barely hear callers on that phone. Is this likely to be a fault with the phone and how do we return it if it is?

Old style Telstra phones would lose their stored numbers if the phone was unplugged for a few days (I recently had this problem with my mother where a cleaner unplugged the phone and all the stored numbers were lost). Is this also the case with the CARE80, or are stored numbers preserved permanently using a similar technology to a USB memory stick?

This phone seems ideal for my 90 year old dad.

Technical SupportOricom

Hi Jeff, thanks for the message. A. In most cases you will be able to plug a compatible existing phone handset or cordless base station directly into the NBN™ connection box (NTD) “UNI-V” phone port or an Analogue Telephone Adaptor provided by your phone service provider. Ask your preferred phone service provider which port to plug your devices into. Your phone may need a converter or a new cable if it has an old connector plug and your service provider will be able to confirm this. When the service provider technician has completed the installation, and reconnected your phones to the connection box, check that you telephone service is working correctly before he leaves your home. If you would like to discuss, please give our locally based Oricom Support a call on 1300 889 785 Mon-Fri 8am-6pm AEST, as the team will be able to assist in troubleshooting with you. Hi Trish
To store numbers into the top 6 buttons (M1-M6 the ones where you can place photos)
1. Lift the handset.
2. Press STORE button.
3. Enter the telephone number to be stored (up to 22 digits). *** Don't worry if the dialtone changes to an engaged tone, just keep following the instructions.
4. Press STORE button.
5. Press M1-M6 to store the number
6. Then that number will be stored to the corresponding "M" button
Start by storing your own mobile number to button M1. Then lift the handset of the Care80, wait for dialtone and press the M1 button. Your mobile should ring.
This should work. It was the best thing we ever purchased for our elderly aunt.
