Never worked

published

Spent an hour putting the lawn mower together, plugged it in and nothing. Would love to be able to write a review on the quality but since the lawn mower could never be started in the first place, i think the quality control speaks for itself. Also material quality is pretty junky. cj

Amazing gadget at a reasonable price from Bunnings. Great power and very easy to use, clean. Works on electricity just a good extension cord and it’s good to go. Also comes with a 3 year warranty for peace of mind. I have purchased other ozito products as well and very happy with my purchase.

OK, for small lawns

published

Bought the 1500W version a while back for a 50sqm lawn. Worked well enough. We then moved into a new place with closer to 90sqm and it doesn't cope. The speed at which it cuts means it takes ages to mow. If you go quicker, it starts to tear the lawn. Would only recommend if you have a small lawn.

Great mower for small backyard

published

I have a small backyard so this is a great mower for a low price.
Cuts through high grass with no issues. Has a choice of six cutting heights so can adjust if grass is too hard to mow through.
Is light so easy to transport.
Grass catcher is small and fills quickly so would not recommend for a large backyard.

The grass catcher plastic doesn't couple well

published

We bought this thinking, being electric and the initial cost was relatively cheap, turns out the first one we got with lower capacity was very flimsy, we returned to bunnings, this other one, the catcher is very flimsy and doesn't ever couple to machine, and it just started emitting smoke and packed up after 2 or 3 use.

Great lawnmower at a very affordable price

published

This lawnmower is very easy to use, cuts lawn as it should and is easy to operate.

A bit of time was required working out how to assemble and attach the grass catcher.

Otherwise very good value for money. The being electric doesn't mean you have to worry about storing or putting petrol in it

Excellent performance at a low price

published

As a female who had never mowed a lawn and had no interest in dealing with a petrol mower, I didn't expect much from this $150 mower but could not be happier. Cuts perfectly and easy to push around even with one hand (I use the other hand to hold a bunch of cable). You get used to the cable after a few turns. No complaints for the price and you would not be able to tell a lawn cut with this vs an $800 mower - perfect results. Only small downside is the angle of the catcher when you pull it out causes some grass to spill out when its full.

Perfect low maintenance mower

published

Largish front lawn, and small back area, this is ideal for me. Having had a double mastectomy, anything heavy is not an option, so this is perfect. Push button start, catcher full signal, and easy to adjust for different heights. A great even cut with out 'mower lines,' every time. I blow it clean with my blower vac after each use, and blades can be sharpened easily or inexpensive to replace if needed. Powerful, lightweight and barely needs a touch to push. I love it!

Perfect for a small yard

published

The Ozito 1400W electric lawn mower is lightweight, easy to manoeuvre and a lot quieter than a petrol lawnmower. Easy to operate and it cuts better than we expected. We thoroughly recommend it, if you have a small yard. It's great value at $149, with a 3 year replacement warranty.

Easy to use and lightweight.

published

I had a shoulder reconstruction so had trouble using my old petrol mower. This electric mower is so much easier to use. One press of the button and away you go. I had to change my mowing technique to make sure I always work away from the electric cord. The mower is light to push and turn and cuts perfectly. You cannot mow too low as it will dig in so test the height you can go to. The best part is when you need to empty the catcher the mower is turned off. The catcher could do with an extra handle to make it easier to lift and empty. Make sure you have a good quality cord and long enough so that you do not need to keep changing plug in points.

Surprisingly durable, great value

published

I've had this mower for 4 years, which is amazing considering i expected it to last about 12 months. I have a smallish back lawn and it's perfect, requires no maintenance, no messy oil or petrol, just plug in and go, have never had to sharpen the blades. Doesn't cut very close to the ground but it easy enough to mow regularly. Light and easy to maneuver, ploughs through tall weeds, and takes quite a beating without complaint. Struggles a little in wet grass, and the plastic catcher tends to split, and the small catcher requires frequent emptier. Overall excellent for a small lawn and excellent value for about $100.

great & lightweight

published

Love this mower due to the fact its lightweight & easy to move. I brought this mower as I have issues with my hands & found a normal mower hard to start.
Its also pretty quite which is a bonus. Great mower for the small yard that I have. I do suggest an extra long cord though.

Ozito Electric Lawn Mower

published

I have been using the Ozito Electric Lawn Mower for about 4 years now. As a female I got sick of buying fuel and oil for my old mower and changed to electric. It's light and I can pick it up easily. The negative is that It is a pest with having to organise the electric cord and I have accidentally mowed over the power cord once.I think I would buy this brand again, but would pick the type that has a rechargeable battery, rather than needeing electric power cord, but overall for the price I have certainly got my money's worth. I also recommended it to another lady who purchase one for her small courtyard and was quite happy with it.

Works well

published

It was a bit of a hassle assembling the catcher, trying to get the two moulded pieces of plastic to fit together but eventually I got it. It is a vast improvement over a hand mower. It has adjustable length for the lawn and unlike a hand mower is not deterred if the grass is a bit long. The catcher is very handy. I can just put the cut lawn in the brown bin.

Easy to use

published

Easy to use.3not heavy to push and does a big lawn for the size of mower. No smelly petrol or fumes which is a bonus and easy enough for the elderly to use also. I guess being electric theres the problem with keeping the cord out of the way so that can be a problem and the wheels fall off after a while

Not bad good for small garden

published

Bought this electrical lawn mower couple of months ago since we finished our landscaping for our new home. The results is quiet good when you got the right level - dnt not set it two low as it will cut to the roots. It is easy to mow but it is annoying they the cord was always in the way, but it is ok with a small area. Easy to maintain and only recommend for small gardens.

I have tried with agency - run by unfriendly people and they advised that It would be cheaper to buy their crap-product new then spare parts and maintenance. PRESUMABLY they prefer to through away and increase our Junk to export (No country would like to accept - recycled waste). Please write to Bunnings to stop feeding low quality products to Australian market.

When we switch on the motor. The blades are not automatically rotating... is it normal ... or it should automatically rotate ??

I believe it should be unless the motor feels the blade is too heavy or Over Loaded .

So when we start the machine ... the blades should automatically rotate or not ?

Allan

Your blade should rotate but I suspect the belt is broken. These machines have a small pulley at the bottom of the motor which in turn drives a larger pulley, located beside it, by means of a belt. You can see it in the pdf at http://cdn0.blocksassets.com/assets/ozito/ozito-product-manuals/oD287rXQZeFMnvZ/ELM-300-Spare-Parts.pdf. To access the belt follow the instructions written by Ken in reply to Graham below. Unfortunately Ozito do not supply these belts - because they don't want us to fix them instead they want us to buy a new one and replace it in about four years (if it lasts that long). If the belt is not broken but you can hear a slipping sound then I suspect you have a problem with a bearing. The shaft which holds the blade had three bearings on it. There are two roller bearings, one at the top of the shaft and one at the bottom just above the blade. If they are faulty it would be possible to replace them with generic ones from a bearing supplier. Give them a shot of WD40 and see if that frees them up. If the belt is not broken and after oiling those two bearings you still cannot turn the large pulley then the fault will lie in the larger bearing inside the hub of the large pulley. This bearing consists of three arms shaped as an arc and located behind each other. Each arm has a bearing similar to the style of bearing in the big end of a car motor. I found that it appears that when the unit is assembled these bearings are packed with grease which allows them to ride around the main shaft (The same one which has the other bearings). These three arms are held in place with pressure from a spring on each. Why this set of bearings is even there is a mystery to me but they appear to be the reason why the pulley won't turn. The grease becomes dry and hard with time and binds the bearing surfaces to the shaft. I found the bearings become rough and a little pitted and the surface of the shaft has gunk adhering to it. You can't replace these bearings because you can't buy them (of course you could if they would supply the damn things). I cleaned the shaft and bearings with turps and sanded the sufaces with 400 grade wet and dry sandpaper to remove the rough surfaces and then packed them with grease. Now the big problem - how to get at them. You need to remove the large pulley which is a downright sod to get at. If you look carefully at the pulley you will see that it is a nylon plastic unit which fits over a central nylon unit on the shaft. This larger outer unit houses the springs which put pressure in the above described bearings. You need to remove this pulley from the unit but you don't need to remove the inner nylon hub. If you look at the unit from the side you will see that the large nylon pulley is attached to a metal plate by three screws, which seem impossible to remove, but all is not lost. You will find a small hole in the housing above the screws, and aligning with the screws when the hub is turned. Just use a screwdriver and long nose pliers to remove the screws. Carefully remove the pulley so as not to loose the springs and then you can clean everything up and repair it as I described. If the hub is very tight or jammed as I described spray it with WD40 (all this worked for me).

Another fault I notice people complaining about is intermittent starting or just failing to start. One problem could be a broken wire but I noticed these machines have a capacitor on the housing in front of the motor and faulty capacitors have been known to cause the troubles complained of. If that is the fault you could probably buy one of the same value from Jaycar but may have to use glue such as araldite to hold it in place. Hope that helps......Allan
