Keeping the rotor happy.

published

Was hunting around for ages for a decent mineral oil, synthetic ones cause some issues with rotary engines (Google it).
Used the engine recommendation tool on their website, and contacted them directly to confirm my research and landed on the HPR 30.
Engine is loving it and I don't think she'll be seeing any other oil from now on.

Seems To Be Good Oil!

published

Purchased a old hilux with high kms, was running shell helix 15-40 and mechanic done roadworthy put castrol 15-40 in it, seem to run alright but was burning threw it. had rear main seal fixed and then swapped to HPR30
and so far the old ute runs better. i do have small timing chain rattle but that's due to old owner not doing regular maintenance.

Great oil for my old cars

published

I have been using HPR30 in my Model A Ford for a lot of years, four years ago I purchased a 351w Mach1 Mustang HPR30 is perfect for this as well, stays nice and clean in both engines. The HPR30 oil is perfect for these old engines that require the high Zinc content.

HPR 30 20W-60 (Mineral)

Can someone please tell me where Penrite HPR oil is made? There is an Australian flag on the packaging stating that it is Australian owned, but after going over the packaging with a magnifying glass I couldn’t find any information on which country it is actually manufactured in?

1 answer

Penrite is 100% Australian owned & managed. The oils are 'made & blended' here in QLD & VIC but the best base stocks are sourced from various places. No oil company will reveal where their base stocks come from, but Australian companies have been making a concerted effort to source their stock from the USA, Russia & Sth East Asia. We rely on Middle East for close to 40% but there has been huge increase in production in Indonesia & surrounding areas. With the proximity to Aust, this is the most likely future market. Remember all oil companies do this & Penrite HPR is as Australian as you can find, but most importantly, was developed for Australian conditions. I hope this helps explain your question.

I have a 347 Windsor stroker with a solid cam and aluminum heads. I live in Sydney NSW what oil should I use? Only had the car for a month previous owner used a 40 oil.

It's hard to judge the age of a Winsor seeing as they've been around so long, but at a guess it's had a fair bit of work done to have a solid cam and (at a guess, maybe edelbrock heads).

If the previous owner ran a 40w oil, then go with it. I doubt they would have used a full synthetic as they show up oil leaks in older motors. Probably best to ask the previous owner what type (mineral or synthetic). If you find its using a bit more oil than you like you could shift up to a 50w oil, which for a worked motor (and I assume you have a 750 or 850 carburettor or a blower on top?) which run hotter, would be fine.

Cheers

Your engine your money I know it's not cheap Mobil1 5w50 for the old style Windsor and 0w40 for the later engine I only use Mobil1 in my own
