I don't know abut the effectiveness for any other type of property but my own, which has a smallish courtyard. You'd need to speak directly to Pestrol.

Hi there,
Thanks so much for this question. Usually the rule is that each unit covers about 15sq. In your case you may find that you will require 2 units to properly cover the entire area and prevent Rodents from finding pockets of unprotected space.
We do offer discounted prices on multiple units so it would definitely be worth giving us a call on 1800 33 88 88 to organise a couple of units at a discounted rate for you.
Cheers,

The rodent gadget doesn't make any noise that we can hear and certainly doesn't bother the dog

Hi Jenny. Mine is a possum deterrent and it doesn't affect domestic animals, depending on the setting.

Hey Jenny,
No the Rodent Free should not affect your Dog or Cat in any way. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask!

How would the unit work in a 8m by 9 m steel fabricated shed with galvinzed walls and roof? The wiring is only on one side of the shed

Hi Chris. I may have put this review in the wrong place as I have a Pestrol possum deterrent which I use in my courtyard. Probably best to talk directly to someone at Pestrol about your issue. Good luck, Jen

Pestrol
Stephen J.Pestrol

Hey Chris,

Because the wiring is only down one side you may find that you won't get complete coverage. However, the unit does emit an ultrasonic sound that is capable of clearing open spaces.
We also sell alternative products that are ideal for open spaces such as sheds where the wiring set up does not quite accommodate the Rodent Free.
Please feel free to phone us on 1800 33 88 88.
Thanks again!

I cannot answer your question however there is a company called Pest Free in Wickham NSW ph: 02 49 69 5515 who specialize in your problem I suggest you contact Ray Connell the proprietor.

Pestrol
Stephen J.Pestrol

Dear Evergreen Landcare, it depends on the wiring throughout the shed. For an area that large I would recommend either 2 rodent free units, at opposite ends of the shed, plus an Impact Ultrasonic Repeller covering the seed storage. Or a single Commercial Rodent Repeller positioned near the seed storage area.

Dear Naybour1, regrettably not. For Possums we would recommend our Possum Away or Possum Defender units.

The rodent free wont be able to cover your veggie patch but im pretty sure they offer ones for outside like the solar animal away elite

Hey Cheryl,

The Rodent Free is only for indoors or enclosed areas where there is existing wiring. However, we do have wide range of animal repellers available that are manufactured with this exact type of scenario in mind. These are both mains powered or solar powered units. Please visit our website for more information or feel free to phone us on 1800 33 88 88.

Thanks!

They wil NOT affect your normal pets unless you keep guinea pigs or hamsters or similar pets which are part of the rodent family.

Hi there,

The good news is that these will not affect your domesticated pets at all (apart for Rats and Mice).

We do very rarely have customers inform us that it has upset either their pet Rabbit, Ferret or Guinea Pig but your Dog, Cat and Galah won't even know it is happening!

Hope this helps!

It normally takes around a week but it can take up to a fortnight for all of them to be gone

Pestrol

Hey Bob,

The general rule is anything up to 3 weeks, however it can be a lot less than this in most cases. On average we would expect most activity to have ceased after 7-10 days.

Howdy, will it cover under the house and inside the roof?

Stephen J.Pestrol

Hey Darren, Pestrol Rodent Free works by sending a signal through the wiring in your house and through the electrical circuit it is plugged in. On one level and a standard 2 to 3 bedroom house, 1 unit should be enough to get rid of unwanted visitors. The signal will be going through the wall cavities and onto the roof cavity as well. My advice would be to get one unit to begin with and if you find the noise has moved to a different location of the house, then you can always get another one. Thank you

Stephen J.Pestrol

Hey Sharon,
Yes absolutely! The product will remove the Rodents if they are located in the roof (if you have it plugged into the house). These units are more for internal use and may not be effective in an outdoor environment such as a patio. You may need to purchase one of our outdoor Rodent repellers for this purpose. For more info on these products please visit www.pestrol.com.au
For the sized area you have described, I would recommend one Pestrol Rodent Free (Indoors) and one Impact Rodent Repeller (Outdoors).
Hope this helps, if not please don't hesitate to contact us again.

Mouse hearing extends into the ultrasonic frequencies and ranges from 1 to about 100 kHz whereas the human hearing range is between 20 Hz and 20 kHz. Graphs of human and mouse audiograms are both roughly U-shaped when decibels are plotted against increasing frequencies. The audiograms show less-sensitive hearing at low frequencies within the hearing range, while hearing becomes more sensitive as the frequencies increase to a point (the bottom of the U), when hearing again becomes less sensitive as the frequencies increase. Hearing is most sensitive for humans at frequencies of approximately 1 to 4 kHz6 and approximately 16 kHz for mice. Misunderstanding of the differences in sensitivity to sound of different frequencies across species could lead to the incorrect assumption that if humans can hear a sound, mice can hear it as well.
I tested the devices from around 12 khz to 50khz and no noise was emitted in ultrasound when red light was lit up.
So they dont seem to emit any sound from the device. If it worked when pluged in the house cat should react as cats can hear high frequencies.

Hi Pestrol, Will other pets such as green tree frogs, pet rabbits and cockatiiels be affected by your device ?

1 answer

Stephen J.Pestrol

Hey Michael,

To our understanding and experience, the product will not affect Frogs or Birds. However, in some cases it may have a slight affect on your Rabbits. The best way to confirm this would be to have them within range of the unit and monitor their behaviour the moment the unit is turned on. A reaction would be very rare and we still honour our full money back guarantee if the situation arises that the Rabbits are affected.

I hope this helps.

Does this product work on large spiders such as huntsmans? I had a Pestcontro (ultrasonic combined with electromagnetic) and it kept them at bay (smaller spiders were unfazed by the unit). Looking for a replacement unit that is as effective.

Hi Tania,
The unit has been known to be very effective on large spiders, such as Huntsman. However, it will very rarely have an effect on smaller spiders. We offer a full 100 day money back guarantee with our product and we believe it should definitely work for you against Huntsman Spiders.

We are wanting to get rid of cockroaches. While I see lots of feedback on rodents, but wanted to know more about cockroaches. Also, are the frequencies harmful? I'm happy to go pesticide free but worry about the constant exposure to frequencies.

Stephen J.Pestrol

Hey Jojo
Thanks for the question! The unit will remove up to 90% of Roaches from your home. The ultrasonic frequencies will cause them to become disorientated and they will have no choice but to vacate the area. These ultrasonic noises will have not be noticed by humans.
Thanks again,

No! Not at all. We have a dog and she loves being in side.

Dear Kathleen,
puppies and kittens under a year old can hear the ultrasonic setting and some are bothered by it. However dogs and cats over a year old cannot hear the frequency. The ultrasonic mode can also be turned off on the Rodent Free units. The Ionic and electromagnetic frequencies do not bother cats or dogs at all.

Hi Heidi,
The unit may affect your Rabbit as it is a relative to Rodents, however this would be rare. Any change in behaviour would be instant so you would know if it was affecting the Rabbit the moment it came inside. As far as your Budgies are concerned, they should be completely unaffected.
Thanks for the question.

Hi there, I bought your product well over a year ago & to start with this seemed to be working well but this year I am getting movement in my roof again, which is disappointing. we've been using 2 in our house for 1.5 yrs now and haven't heard or notice any movement in the ceiling or anywhere else. I recommend getting 2 if your house is quite large and put 1 one end of the house and the other the other end.

Helen

In my opinion I think it would be a good idea to move device from time to time. Good luck!

Pestrol
Stephen J.Pestrol

Hey Bev,

The Rodents shouldn't get used to the noise at all - there could be an issue with the fault. These units have a two year warranty on them, I would recommend giving us a call on 1800338888 so we can troubleshoot a few things and if there is still no luck we will replace it for you with a new one.

Thanks,
