I have never had a problem with my Peugeot 308 hatch. I brought it new and have had it for 3 years. It is so reliable and very good quality for the price. Noooo tacky-ness in sight. The panels are solid, not tinny. It is very comfortable, easy to drive, breaks work fabulously (I had a car pull out in front of me once).. It's a great size, easy to park, roomy - fits a family of five, a trolley load of shopping and a stroller. It's fast, has lots of power, I live in the country so i have to overtake trucks etc and I can get round them just as qui...Read more

Love driving this great car.
I am very pleased with my turbo Peugeot 308. I am more than impressed with the quality of the car. The finish on the the upholstery and the paint is above the standard of Australian and Japanese cars. The brakes are very impressive. They are so gentle when I stop that it feels that they are made from velvet. The only criticism I do have is that is not very economical. Next time I buy a Peugeot, and I will buy another one, I will buy a diesel.
The excellent finish and inclusions. Also the stand out style of the overall car.
As stated in review, the petrol consumption is a little high. I could not fault it in any other way.

Evolution of a Classic
I bought my 308 HDi hatch early in 2013 and am significantly impressed. Styling is distinctive, interior is spacious and light and the cabin trimmed with quality materials. The auto box is a proper six speed torque converter, much less jerky at low speeds than the VW DSG box, and the engine torquey and economical but with a good turn of speed if you put your foot down. Steering is competent and torque steer if you get exuberant is well controlled. Downsides are that the suspension is a tad firm (I'll get higher profile tyres) and that after six...Read more
months I am still discovering gadgets and design features that I hadn't suspected existed. It's also the only car I ever owned that says goodbye to me when I get out! I get 55mpg round town. July 31st 2022 Update: My 308 is just fine I bought a 308 HDI auto at Pickles auctions 5 years ago. It has been fine and now has 160 000km on it. It is economical, reliable, comfortable and whizzes along if needed. The rear suspension clunks a bit over bumps and is greatly improved by having the correct tyre sizes and make (Bridgestone Potenza) fitted but it really feels as if another 100 000km would be a breeze. Can do over 1000 km on a tank and the cruise control is great. Only things I have done a bit special is have the Aisin gearbox flushed once and the battery replaced once. Neither were needed but I am cautious as my partner drives it a lot. Never let me down (fingers crossed of course).3 comments

o Gold Coast, so have put cushions under my sheepskin covers to flatten the seating which has caused hip problems for me in a previous Mi16. Test drives around Melbourne don't give you a proper feeling for this as well as beaut highways north to the border. I agree about the turning circle being poor and after scraping the front airdam would like front parking sensors. Brakes excellent but I really love the smooth gearbox, strong pull of the engine at low speeds, bluetooth phone setup and the versatility of seat removal( bought it to load 2 bikes inside). I had a C5 and liked the electric seats, shame they weren't standard in this model. I don't like the low front end which precludes entering certain driveways. It's hard to find a perfect vehicle so it's a matter of learning to live with the negatives and enjoy the positives.
Just as a comment I have found I am not allowed to fit higher profile tyres in the ACT (although can fit wider ones). The ride is significantly improved though if you ignore the Peugeot pressure reco... Read more

Our first European and diesel car !
We needed a replacement family wagon so got a 1 year old 2.0 HDi 308 touring [308sw here in NZ] that had done only 8600kms for 60% of RRP. Our main requirements were safety [we have a 2 year old] so stability control was mandatory, fuel efficency [fuel cost over 10 years really adds up]. We have had this car just over a year and it has been fantastic. It even looks good !, the interior finish is real nice too. Will soon start using biodiesel in it too. This car has a huge interior for its size especially in luggage space. Has huge power [as one...Read more
would expect from a diesel] and handles real well [due to its width]. I love it, wifes loves it and the 3 year loves it NB: Anyone wanting to discuss biodiesel use in a 308 leave a comment :) In no particular order 1. The glass roof is fantasic makes the car so much lighter inside, 2. The vehicle can use biodiesel up to 30%*, 3. Has a 5 star safety rating 4. Rear parking sensors 5. Huge luggage capacity [triple rear seat and it is also on rails] 6. Passenger seat folds down to allow long loads if I have to find flaw they are minor grips - glove box is very small, bonnet lever is on the passenger side and no usb port for the stereo [althought I beleive it is available but very very expensive]Similar opinion? Fantastic Hatch
Purchased a 2011 308 Sportium Hatch. 1.6L Petrol Turbo. What a magnificent machine. The vehicle was purchased a second car. Initially I was sceptical that a 1.6L engine could move 1500kg plus occupants without a struggle. One test drive and I was won over. The six speed automatic 'tiptronic' gear box is so smooth. I call the car a roller skate as that is what it's motion reminds me of. The fit and finish is beautiful. I know the earlier model 307 had issues in this area, not so with the 308. Interior space is roomy and the seats comfy. Little t...Read more
ouches such as cup holders in the rear armrest and USB and Bluetooth connections and a drivers side roof sunglass holder, perfect. The front glove box is small but there is storage space under the front seat and all four doors as well as at the rear of the center console and front seats. Automatic wipers, lights and dual zone climate control are perfect for those who like to set and forget. The electric windows have one touch up and down on all four windows. For the safety concious there are air bags a plenty. For the environmentalist the CO2 emissions are little. For the frugal the fuel comsumption is amazing. For the rev head the twin scroll Garret Turbo pulls maximimum torque at 1400rpm!! and holds it. Boot space is generous and almost cavernous with the rear seats folded. Handling is superb with speed sensitive steering, stiff suspension and all the electronic wizardry applied to traction and stability programmes. Even the 'Tiptronic' gear box has automatic programmes for standard, sports and wet/ice driving as well as the manual option. Solid, well built, powerful and stylish. What more can you want? Everything.2 comments

schedule which I recommend one does with any brand vehicle. The vehicle is still fuel efficient. I use cruise control on open roads. Travelling from the Southern Highlands to Sydney at a speed of 100km/h the computer indicates around 4.3 to 5.5 litres of fuel per 100kms. The return journey it sits around 7 litres per 100kms. I do this trip often and out of curiosity have checked. The reason for the difference returning is that it's uphill. The Highlands are approximately 800 metres above Sydney. I have taken this vehicle on a few long distance trips of several thousand kilometres. Certainly a huge saving in fuel over our other vehicle which is a 4WD. Obviously the two vehicles are built for different environments, but the long distance trips were one's that had previously been undertaken in the 4WD and didn't require any off road driving. Loaded up with luggage, two teenage kids and two adults the trips have been comfortable. The seating is supportive and the climate control excellent. The cooling worked wonderfully in 44 degree heat while travelling to Adelaide.Update October 2016. Still going strong. High pressure fuel pump and timing chain replaced. Both these parts have a failure which Peugeot are aware of. The car is two years out of warranty and yet Peu... Read more

Extremely Happy with 308 Touring 2011
Had this now for 3 months and everyone in the house is so happy, it looks as if we will have 3 Peugeot cars in the house next year :-) I did a fair bit of research before buying this car test driving quite number of cars around the $30k mark.
The way this car is designed, the front cabin is so spacious. After getting used to this, all other cars look so cramped. Front cabin is so neat and uncluttered. For e.g., there are no million buttons on the steering wheel. Audio and other controls are in levers to the left and right behind the ste...Read more
ering wheel. In short, full marks to the designer for making this look simple and elegant. This space and neatness makes it a great experience to drive. Add to that the Panoramic Glass Roof that everyone in the family absolutely loves, this car gives an unbeatable experience for around $30k. The model I got Touring Sportium also came very well equipped and the quality of the standard sound system that came was much better than other cars I tested. Initially I could not believe this was a 1.6 engine. It would not kick off as fast as the Mazda v6 Tribute I replaced but once it gets going, it runs very smooth. It gives very good mileage. Looking from the outside, the car looks small but it is quite spacious. In the touring model, rear seats are intended for children but they are not uncomfortable for adults. I also got the 2 additional seats to make this a 7 seater. Those 2 seats are really for temporary use by children and not for anything more. Seats can be removed or adjusted to carry items like bicycles.4 comments
Had this now for over a year and done 31000km. No issues and really loving this. One thing to add, the Glass Roof gives a very spacious feeling to this car.
3 years and 80,000km later, this is proving to be a very reliable and economical car. No issues except for a minor matter of replacing a coolant sensor. Of course we service the car on time and use ... Read more
only Shell v-power petrol. Now waiting for the new 308 to be released in Australia and planning to go with a hatch with a glass roof as we no longer need a wagon.Almost 4 years and done 98000km. Feels like a good friend... with an annoying habit!
Two years and 40,000km into ownership of this particularly fine vehicle, and I find I am very comfortable owning the car, and not at all looking forward to replacing it. (The car is on a lease.)
I shall get the bad out of the way first: wipers are too slow for truly heavy rain; the blower on the air-con/heating is too loud; the driver's seats are somewhat too hard. And that's about it.
The car is versatile, economical (1.6 litre turbo petrol), reliable, has thoughtful features, drives very well (particularly on wet roads), and has good su...Read more
pport from the dealer network. I came to this vehicle frustrated with my Citroen - still the best car I've ever owned, despite everything - and quickly started to forget all the issues its bigger sister gave me. The interior is well thought out, with single push all the way down/up from all the window buttons, the steering wheel has a horn button and... nothing else! Minor controls for the excellent cruise control/speed limiter and sound system are on small satellite modules that sprout from just below the wiper and indicator wands. The controls are easy to learn, and have good tactile feedback, and the sound system module also controls the bluetooth connection/phone functions. Ever left a door slightly ajar and in the morning found the battery was flat? Can't happen in this car because it senses when there is a recurring drain on the battery when the engine is off and it goes into power saving mode, shutting down unnecessary things. My wife's Hyundai doesn't do this, as she found out just recently.8 comments
In terms of the wiper sweep, I leave my wiper setting on auto all the time and only when we get a torrential downpour and I'm driving at high speed on the freeway do I manually select high speed wiping. This seems to do the trick.

308 XSE HDi: This is the first diesel vehicle I've driven since buying an old Toyota Dyna 200, which is our faithful 'workhorse'. We were immediately impressed by the instant starting and incredible acceleration of this vehicle. There is little difference in the handling and performance of this wonderful car when comparing it to gasoline/petrol driven vehicles. ering wheel (located behind the wheel at located at 3 & 9 O'clock positions). The seating and adjustments are easy to apply. In the XSE model, there are, among other things, reverse sensors and lumbar support on both driver and passenger sides. The car can also run on a blend of biodiesel as specified by the makers. No doubt, after the warranty period has expired, I'd be very tempted to try it on full biodiesel which, I'm quite confident, it would take. The HDi engine comes in two performance categories. The lower end is the 1.6 HDi producing 80kW @ 4000 rpm, reaching maximum torque of 240Nm @ 1750rpm and a top speed of 190 km/h and the 2.0 HDi with 100kW @ 4000rpm, with a maximum torque of 320Nm @ 2000rpm and reaching a maximum speed of 205/200 km/h. Most of this technical information will only be appreciated by car enthusiasts, but the real test for the 'non-technically inclined' is to go for a test drive in this car if you're out shopping for your next 'family addition'.1 comment

This is my 3rd Peugeot after 2 307's, I have done 45,000 klms with no problems except a warp in front disc, it's a 2.0L HDi with the 6 speed auto, great to drive and very economical, I would definitely buy another one.

Good
These cars are great to drive. I have test driven all engine models in both hatch and touring and they all had their good points. The turbo petrol had the most power but I ended up getting the HDi turbo diesel touring and with a luggage pod on the top I got around 7L per 100km so the HDi is very very very cheap to run. The ability to remove all the back seats separately is a great feature too. In general a good family car at a reasonable price.
The touring has the best interior of any car I have ever seen. Good fuel economy, low emissions in the HDi. Great to drive. Nicely finished leather, 3rd row option in the touring.
The Petrol ones are a bit thirsty and the beige leather makes it look like a taxi.

This car has a lot of work to do to it. Have driven the top of the range 308 and is much better than bottom of the range, but still for the price the bottom of the range should not have problems.
Interior and exterior are good looking, fuel efficient
Don't go for the bottom of the range 308. Has no power to it. Have had problems with many things including the chair not being able to adjust back/forward, problems with the radio/cd, the input hole where the ipod cord goes, and some mechanical problems which took Peugeot servicing centre many weeks to figure out, and they only provided us a hire car after we complained to head offie. Nothing but problems, cant wait to get rid of it.

and was lovely to drive until it hit about 20,000 KLMs when we experienced our first warped disc... The car now has 77,000 KLMs and we are on the 4th set of discs and rotors. We had it serviced a few days ago and done about 1,000 KLMs and guess what... All the sounds are starting again, so I suspect at the next service of 87,000 we will be replacing discs for the 5th time which will be the right time to trade-out of the vehicle... the car since 20,000 has been a major disappointment, the vibration is always there and get worse over time until the discs are replaced at each service... We have explored all options... Removed lock nuts, upgraded discs and rotors and drive the car like an old woman... Nothing. Interesting though... we have the car boom for a RECALL on the "vacuum pump" which assist the braking systems, I do wonder when the pump is replace will the problem go away... If it does, the I will be heading to the Small Claims Court to get reimbursement of repairs that should not be required. For the record, we only have a problem with the front drivers side disc, but the problem is ongoing... And to think I was hat close to buying a RCZ when the problems occurred on the 308...
