Take it to a good automatic specialist and change the oil. That fixes my 307 auto box. Peugeot does not make good gear boxes if ZF is fitted like some of the Citroens, you can feel the difference.

This is my first time that I'm interested in Peugeot brand. I'm interested in 2012 Peugeot 508 allure auto. it's one-owner car, and has 68691kms. I'm a bit skeptical about the price which is $17600. I'm afraid if the car will break down often in the future. I mainly driving on highway, not often to drive in city. I would like to know about Peugeot reliability, maintenance cost and resale value. Any insights? I really want the car but the price is little bit dodgy.

I have been offered 2013 508 Allure that has done 39,000k. Im upgrading from 2010 Toyota Camry Hybrid (110,000 km). The 508 has had only one (old lady) owner and appears to be well looked after with all service history available. Just concerned about "European" cars and some of the issues raised in the reviews. Could someone please allay my fears

Hi Joe

I’m really happy with mine. If I was offered one with those low k’s I’d go for it for sure! If you keep in mind that every car needs servicing & Looking after I think you will be won over to the European side like I was!! Bonus is they are really fuel efficient cars aswell.

Thanks, Nin, this is helpful

If it is a diesel, grab it. If it is a petrol, factor in the possibility of spending a bit on the timing chain (do your homework here). I have a 508 GT diesel and have driven a few Allures both petrol and diesel. Absolutely brilliant value vehicles. Excellent build quality. Not dirty like VW diesels. The only glitches you should expect will be in the electrics. For some reason the country who gave us the 'Amp' unit of electrical measure don't seem to grasp modern electronics, but the possible trade off is worth it. You are unlikley to ever go back to a Camry.

No idea sorry mate.
Best to take it to Peugeot and get them to plug it onto the computer and they will know what's wrong straight away.

Mine too, replaced plugs and ignition coils changed coolant completely and bled the system but same happens.
possibly fuel pump issue, the car starts like a tractor, misfire engine faults lights, codes point to the items i have replaced but usually only runs well
for a week after i have cleaned the plugs again.
fan always coming on and extremely loud,
heater is poor works only when it wants to.
508 THP 1.6 petrol engine used also in minis and other euro cars.
if your lucky they work well but most people report serious issues.
I will sell mine too a farmer.
next car will be from Korea i guess.

Has anybody had an issue with a “clacking” noise in the 508? Sounds like diesel pump but it seems it is Steering Pump. Any experience anyone?

I have a Peugeot 508 2017 model, I have had four wheel alignments and the car pulls to the left. Has the power steering have a sensor?

The 508 uses a electric power steering pump which doesn't need to be driven by a belt from the motor. This helps with fuel consumption. I think they run a variable speed sensor that makes the steering more heavy at higher speeds. May need to go to a Peugeot dealership to get some advice.

Thank you Mark I will go to the dealer, I had the car back at the dealers four times and they only did the wheel alignment.

Hi! Have not long had a 2011 508gt only done 19000 kms. Had no problems until a few days ago when I went to put my foot down to overtake and nothing happened, closely followed by it going into limp mode home. On getting home the engine was a little overheated but there was no indicative warning. Can anyone help with what it could be please?

Hi ... get your battery checked ... My computer crashed because the factory battery was not working properly ... the whole car relies on the computer so might be something to check ... my battery (original) gave way after 2 years ... replaced under warranty ... I am no mechanic so cannot tell you any more ... BTW if your car is at 19K then check your rear brakes ... if you have the automatic parking brakes then the pads wear out quicker ... again mine gave way at 20k ...

Thanks for that I will get it checked and look at the battery as well..

I am about to purchase a 508 Turbo Diesel 2.2 (2012) second hand. I love the car design and comfort. But I am reading blogs about how they are maintenance nightmares- electronics, overheating, excessive vibrations at high speeds. Does any owner of this beautiful car agree or care to comment?

Hi I don't agree with those comments, my 508 is the Allure model 2.0L Diesel so far have done 15,000 kilometers with absolutely no problems i don't find any vibration at high speed, there are some vibrations at lower speeds as it tends to hold onto for economy higher gears, i have had no electronic problems the car is fitted with the optional in my model GPS that works brilliantly i drove the car to Adelaide last Christmas taking 3 days stopping in various towns in temperatures as high as 45 degrees in some places both the water and oil temperatures never varied from normal, running the car at the maximum permitted speed with some higher overtaking speeds the air was running almost on full all the time due to the heat, i haven't driven the GT 2.2 model would like to, the car has had its first 12 month service in June with no problems detected, its very, just make sure it has been serviced as per Peugeot service, i simply love the car my 4th Peugeot, I hope this helps

I am having to replace the alternator and starter on my 508 is this a common problem? Love my car just dissapointed in having this problem car has only 72.000 km on clock.

I have done 52000 km in mine and not had any issues with the 508 and most of my use is on freeways. Not heard of this issue anywhere either. I am wondering if there is a given number of start/stops that can be handled but still would not expect this at 72000km.

sporotti
sporotti

Have to admit i have never heard of this being needed sounds very odd, my 308 when i had it had done 100,000 klms with no problems at all it was also the Diesel and to have both the alternator and starter seem unusual that 2 basically unrelated parts should go together, i have only just done 10,000 and a lot of stop starts, have you had a second opinion, if you are in Sydney contact David Collier at Collier automotives in Clyde/Granville area he used to service my 308 and is a specialist and cheaper, he specialises in French cars,
Hope this help

Mean't to say is the car still under warranty, i purchased an extra full 2 year warranty just in case, those parts should be covered i would think.

Just looked at a brand new one, but with 2013 manufacture plate. What changes have been made between then and the current model please?

I have a 2011 plated car and my parents have also a 2011 plated car but there is 6 months difference between them.
There are some small changes between them.
My car has an orange information screen between the two dials and my parents car has a choice of 4-5 different colors for that same screen.
Other than that we haven't been able to find any other differences between the two cars except that mine is a wagon and theirs is a sedan.
If you are in no hurry then you might like to hold out till about April when the new revised 508 comes out.
The badge is moved from the bonnet to the grill (making it easier to polish the bonnet), it also has slightly redesigned front to the car as well as the rear bumper, touch screen GPS/Infotainment screen (this frees up the center console which from the European version will have a small storage area to place a mobile phone in) and LED headlights and maybe a re tune on the 2.0L diesel.

If the the compliance plate says manufactured in 2013 it doesn't necessarily mean it is a 2013 model it could also be a 2014 model as by the time the car manufacturers put the cars on the ship and clears customs then store them somewhere this sometimes takes weeks even sometimes months / as long as you have a good safety car you should be happy
