Steer Away from PGH.
I strongly do not recommend PGH bricks. Extremely Poor quality bricks. Consumers beware! PGH bricks have a track record on significant number of chips & pitting. The paint on the face of their bricks are very thin & they don't withstand the weather. My advice is; avoid going with them at all cost!

Not a happy consumer!!!
We have had several dealings with this company and found them to be very dismissive, dishonest and misleading. The sample bricks PGH gave us certainly do not represent what we have ended up with. Below is a picture of one of the samples we were given by PGH, Notice how there isn't any Pockmarks or red clay showing on the sample.
End result pictures are also below. We have been asking direct questions to Carlisle Homes, our builder and PGH management, as to how this has happened, Are they a bad batch of bricks ? Or have they been overcleaned ? W...Read more
hy are our bricks showing so much red clay on a product thats specifically designed to have a permanent ceramic finish on the face ? PGH'S written response to us is that the bricks meet all Australian Standards and cannot fault them. We cannot pursue our builder Carlisle Homes to take responsibility and fix our bricks due to PGH'S direct involvement. It certainly feels like both parties have questions to answer here. Stay tuned we will pursue this further.

Make sure the bricks you want are the ones you get
PGH's Pewter brick is a great looking brick, shiny slate grey colour, samples look brilliant, unfortunately, the finished brickwork looks like a totally different product. Gone are the shiny grey bricks, now they look like grey with red polka dots. Every pockmark in the bricks has no colour left, all you can see is the red brick where there should be grey and some areas look like someone has tried to clean them with a belt sander, because the colour has worn off and this is a brick that has been like it since the day they were finished laying s...Read more
ome 18 months ago, not 25 years. The PGH 25 year guarantee against colour change or fading is not worth the paper it’s written on when you ask them to fix their faulty product, there response, they look perfect, even though, none of their Pewter samples in the bricks they hand out, their sample walls or brochures have red polka dots. If this is a sample of their bricks, make sure what you want is what you getSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Pathetic "high quality" bricks
Don't use PGH bricks. The common bricks that turned up were of better quality then the "high quality" bricks they delivered. When I called them to resolve the issue, they didnt want anything to do with it. No refund, no onsite meeting, no changeover. No compensation what so ever. Don't use them

Amazing Customer Service
My husband and I are currently in the process of building our DREAM home to spend the rest of our lives in so we want it to be more than perfect. Our builder uses Austral bricks, but I wanted to see what other bricks were availble in the market at the moment. I googled and found PGH Bricks in Wantirna South Victoria. We havnt used PGH Bricks before. Both my partner and I had no idea what we wanted or where to start. Upon arrival we saw the customer service lady, who we found out her name was Katherine, was helping an older gentleman with a walk...Read more
ing stick, at a very slow pace, carry samples out to his car whilst he was talking about "the old days", still listening to him, she quietly told us she'd be with us in a moment. We used this time to start having a look at the display walls, walking around looking at so many options to choose we could still hear Katherine talking to the gentlemen as if she cared what stories he had to tell - I have not seen this in a long time, most staff where ever you go want to fob you off as soon as they can. As the gentlemen left we had her immediate attention. With a lovely smile she apologised for the wait and asked how she could help us, if only she knew how unsure, how long she'd be assisting us. We explained to her we had no idea where to start, this was our 1st time building a home, and it is our dream home. She started asking questions - do we prefer red, creams, brown or dark colored modern bricks? What style of house? Where we will be building? Do we have a budget? Etc. With our answers she started showing us what option were available. We fell in love with the Pewter brick but the pricing was just out of our budget, we also fell in love with La Mesa. Then came trying to figure out the roofing, gutters, render and so much more. She must have noticed we were still so unsure, so overwhelmed she quickly went inside & came back out with a Cultured Stone board, colorbond colour swatches and other tools to assist us in getting our colours right. and a list of display homes using the bricks we chose. You can make a beautiful brick look horrible if you dont have the right colours around it. She put the stone board and the colours against the walls and slowly it was all coming to life. She offered so much assistance, it made our decisions so much easier. As we had a budget we chose the La Mesa, but Katherine must have noticed we were still not 100% happy with the La Mesa, we loved the Pewter much more, she gave us some advice - to choose the brick we love the most - choose something cheaper inside that we can change in a couple of years, like carpet or benchtops, if we go with a brick we dont 100% love and end up not being happy with our choice, the only thing we can do to change it is render the house - I never thought of it like that, and with 150% certaintity we ended up choosing the Pewter. Katherines help has made building our dream home a breeze. She went over and above what she had to do. Her help and assistance is greatly appreciated. She was amazing. We didnt even bother looking at what Austral had to offer. Thank youSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Within industry tolerance...dah?
We have chosen a "malt colour brick". It a shady creamy/brownish bricks on our builder display.
The bricks that was delivered is shady of grey. The representative did not visually inspect the bricks and as expected their excuse is within the industry tolerance. How can this be an industry tolerance one is shade of brown and the other one is shade of grey.
Their ripping us for the cost of pick up. Even our builder affirmed that the colour is way different.

More accurate then the alternative
My experience as a bricklayer in qld has led me to believe pgh is the better brick for sizes being more accurate to the 76mm height and 230mm long they are supposed to be. Along with competent chippys and/or draftsman, consistency of the size of bricks helps with improving the appearance to line perps up and make also panels work brick.
Austral also nearly always has 73mm high bricks which either requires a big gauge or there will be an extra course around the whole house costing more $. This is far less often the case with pgh.

Rude staff
Staff very rude and not welcoming. We were ready to make a selection and were told by staff to come back another day to choose. Very confusing and they think they are in control of people’s choosing process.

Worst Quality and Finish
Worst quality bricks, we paid Simond homes $3500 extra on top to upgrade but finally found the quality of upgraded bricks worst, the slurry on the header was poorly applied. Upon complaining we had this reps come from PGH bricks golden grove, South Australia to convince that"s the best quality bricks. No wonder why the bricks are of worst quality when these sales rep think that the best quality in the world. They were covering the manufacturing fault and trying to prove its the best. We have requested written statement from PGH to take the issue further legally.
Let me see what they come back with.

Very Bad Quality Bricks
Our home has the PGH Alfresco Vino bricks.
These bricks have a significant number of chips & pitting. The paint on the face of these bricks is very thin & extensive damage has occurred when our builder cleaned the mortar smears off.
Terrible consistency in size of the units (i.e. brick height varies by approx 6mm) making the joint widths inconsistent. Similar issues with length that has resulted in perp joints ranging from 7mm to 22mm on a column & vertical alignment being out by 110mm on the facade.
The construction manager from Rawson Homes also blames the horrible brickwork on the actual brick quality & says they should never had started using them.

The first point of contact - What a Nightmare!
I called to speak to someone about bricks my builder had ordered. I just needed some advice....Well If you end up speaking with Cathy, ask for someone else. I have never had to deal with someone so unhelpful, rude and down right uninterested in providing assistance. I was lucky enough to finally be put through to Georgia who was a delight to deal with.

What we Saw was Not what we Got
After looking at the range of bricks available at the PGH display centre at Schofields we chose Smoke for our house. This is the brick PGH used to build their sample shed and display centre.
We liked the brick's colour and the clean smooth texture of it's face.
Unfortunately the bricks delivered to us were not the same quality as those we viewed at Schofields.
Ours didn't have a smooth clean finish - they were on the whole either blistered or had white 'chalky' spots.
Our builder got a PGH representative to view our bricks and determine their quality. Surprise, surprise they were within PGH's acceptable tolerances. Acceptable tolerances.......

Has anyone had trouble with the yellowing coming through the PGH Sorbetto Bricks?
We have chosen these bricks for our build later on this year but we have seen some examples of this yellowing coming through, just wondering if it's just a bad batch of these bricks or its a common occurence

Thanks for sharing this information to us. Did you paid it directly to Schofiled Display Centre or to CSR? How much did you pay for 1,000 piece.

Hi Chris, we dealt directly with our builder re payment. Cost of the bricks were included in our quote but we had to pay extra to have Smoke as they weren't part of the standard selection offered by our builder. Cheers

Liaising with the Builder and has advised to rectify the issue with bricks as well as bricks laid. Will wait and report the outcome.
