Annoying!!!
I loved my mums philips iron but can no longer get that model.so I decided to spend more and it was for no reason. It does not steam in the vertical position. And when using the steam boost it leaks water! When I read up on it it says you can press the boost to quickly in a row but it still leaked. I went and spent $50 half the amount on Russell Hobbs steamglide ultra from big w and it is amazing!

The most awkward iron I've ever used
I would have to agree with other reviewers regarding the sole plate.. after 1 year mine is covered in scorch / burn marks. The major trouble with this iron, I find is the design. Having small hands I need to grip the handle firmly to lift it. The steam trigger goes off EVERY TIME... who the hell thought of putting it there!! To avoid this I try to grip differently ... then I hit the temperature control dial and change the settings. Most frustrating iron ever... this is my third Phillips iron the past ones were great BUT this would have to be the worst I've ever used.

Disappointing
Had to return this iron to The Good Guys after being initially delighted with the purchase. After only 3 months, iron failed to turn on!!! For $100, I would not have expected this to happen. The design is great but clearly the electronics are not :-( Decided to try another company (Tefal) so fingers crossed this iron lasts. Ironing is not my favourite part of housework and this added to my woes.

Philips GC4512 clothes iron
Bought this iron a couple of weeks ago. Saw a few negative comments on similar Philips irons, but I went with Choice Magazine recommendation. It is easy to handle and glides over the fabric quite well. Seems to heat up OK but it does dribble a bit. Checked the instruction manual and it may just be a matter of matching the heat setting with the appropriate steam setting. Calcium catcher is a feature that I haven't seen before. I think that the water tank is a bit small and you have to be mindful to not over fill it otherwise it dribbles. Heat se...Read more
lector is very touchy and it is easy to move the dial during normal operation. Shot of steam function seems to work well. Water spray button is OK but I feel that the nozzle sends the water too far in front of the iron. For left handed people, the filler cap is a bit of a pain to use as it is left side hinged and gets in the way. OK for right handed uses though. Power cord is quite short but nothing that an extension cord can't fix. Have only used it once so far and I'll see what the future will hold..2 comments

3rd iron in 3 years, not made to last!!!!!! NOT HAPPY JAN
The temperature is always fluctuating, water drips out no matter how many times you clean the iron, the main problem I have been having for over 3 years now is after a few months the steam is a lot less and the shot of steam is terrible, many holes underneath but only a few are workable. They are once again replacing my iron BUT I am guessing I will be doing the same thing next year.

Trouble from the Beginning
Purchased this item from ANZ rewards in May 2016. Our original Iron was the same type of iron without the plus, unfortunately was accidentally broken. So thought we would upgrade to the newer model with more features. Well, then the trouble started. Since using from day one, this iron has been scorching the clothes whether they are cotton or not (work uniforms, school uniforms, etc) spray out calcium, over steaming, not turning off. We have even tried lowering the settings to iron the clothes but the same thing is still happening.

Awful stay away
Bought our first expensive iron only to have it repeatedly scorch clothes no matter how low the setting. Has been 6 months of frustration and constant cleaning only now to find SMOKE not steam coming out of it. Has never been dropped or mistreated....and if course we didnt keep the receipt.

Initially Impression, sadly mistaken
The iron was initially fantastic to use, good steam output, quick to heat and good control. However I appear to be having the same problem as many other users, the iron auto off switch won't allow the iron to turn on and heat back up again. I have had the iron for a little over a year, as a single person with little ironing I made the decision to invest in what I though was a quality product that could last and perform at short notice. Incredibly disappointing given the price.

Worst iron I ever purchased
I concur with Claudette. I purchased this iron yesterday and started ironing a load of tablecloths (white linen and cotton) on the recommended settings and every item had scorch marks. I tried a lower setting and still got scorch marks. The temperature control is obviously not accurate. The sole plate was also discharging blobs of water intermittently on all settings. This iron makes life a true misery. I also did not know that this model had been discontinued, otherwise I would not have bought it however it is readily available all over Sydney...Read more

Disaster of an iron
This iron has caused us nothing but problems. It spits water; it often turns itself off and then refuses to heat up again; it scorches like crazy, even on the lowest heat setting; it keeps accumulating dark brown gunk on its sole plate which comes off onto clothes. Absolutely the most useless iron I have ever had the misery to own.

Not bad to date
Have just purchased the Philips GC4512 Azur Performer recently, was the same price at both JB Hi Fi and Good Guys, so will see how it goes over the long haul but so far really good and waaaaaaaay better than the dripping Sunbeam irons we've had. The soleplate surface really glides along well across cotton, linen and denim and lighter fabrics although yet to do anything really light and synthetic and usually use it for the same sort of fabrics... so hope it doesn't stick as reported. It seems to heat up enough ok but hard to tell as yet as the s...Read more
oleplate glides along so readily. The water tank I found easy enough to fill, we use a squeezy/sauce bottle anyway but could see it may be tricky to fill under a tap like many irons, but we have noticed that the water lasts lots longer than it did with the Sunbeam. The squirty spray water function seems to shoot out less volume but maybe that's just my imagination. Have read about the steam trigger in other comments but haven't really found it a problem in fact I find it more convenient to use than the usual push button but maybe that's just me again. The iron itself seems light enough although I did notice the next model up in the store was certainly getting on the heavy side, also fortunately we don't have a big washload to iron just iron as we need stuff. I really like the auto-off... hope it continues to work! and I like the calc features. I think we paid maybe $30 or so dollars more than we did for the Sunbeam but hopefully the Philips continues to perform well.3 comments

Trouble
I purchased a Phillips GC4512 Azur Performance Plus which worked OK for a short time (months) before the Auto Off function started engaging and turning the iron off mid ironing. I easily exchanged the iron with the same model and started using the new iron in mid May 2015. I've had this iron only two months and I can't use it on the steam setting without it spitting brown spray, mostly from the lower holes. I rang Consumer Care this morning and was told that I should just descale the iron every 8 uses! I've never had to do this before in my thousands of ironing hours and I don't believe it's a descaling issue. The GC4512 Azur Performance Plus is going back, again!

Painful to Use
I hate ironing so when my last iron started to fade, I wanted to buy a good quality iron on the hope this would enable me to reduce my time spent ironing.
I purchased a Philips GC4512 Azur Performer Plus steam iron based on the features and the ceramic based SteamGlide Plus soleplate.
I have a number of criteria for a good iron: smooth ironing, plenty of steam as required, easy to use steam boost button, large capacity in the water tank, auto clean and easy calc cleaning.
However after I used this iron for a couple of months I found th...Read more
e iron to be a big waste pf money. The soleplate glides smoothly over cotton and linen but on synthetic fabrics, the soleplate catches on the material. It also has burn marks on the soleplate which I cannot scrub off after only three months of usage. Unbelievable in the past I've had an iron with a teflon coated soleplate for three years that was easily cleaned and rarely had any burn marks on the soleplate and any burn marks were easily cleaned off. The GC4512 also leaks even when not full I've been trying to locate the leak without success. The biggest pain is the steam boost button which is shaped like a trigger on the underside of the handle. It is a terrible place to place the button because you are trying to avoid holding the handle to tightly to prevent accidentally pressing on the trigger and after a while your hand starts to hurt in this position.1 comment

Design disaster
The Steam Shot button on underside of handle is a design disaster. This means handling the iron is a very uncofortable procedure which puts strain or pressure on all the wrong parts of arm, hand, etc. At the same time, due to the lack of finger room under the button, the touchy heat setting dial is reguarly bumped off it's setting. Iron was then returned because Auto Off function did not work.
It's a very attractive iron and I like that most Phillips Irons have a silent Auto Off.
We do a lot of ironing in our business and I regularly purchased Phillips. The previous iron was a GC4855 and I concur with others regarding problems with dripping and loss off heat after about a year.
