    Efficient and quiet

    published

This is my first electric toothbrush and I've been using it for about 2 years now. It's definitely an upgrade from using a manual and there are a few settings depending on what you prefer. It also comes which a sanitiser for the toothbrush head which I like.

    Died after 2 years

I love all the features and the way the toothbrush cleans my teeth and also how it sanitises the brush heads but most disappointingly only worked for about 2 years. I previously had an OralB toothbrush which worked well for 8 years. For $200+ surely the toothbrush should have a longer life. Seriously considering going back to OralB.

    love my sonicare

I've only been using it for a week but I love the way my teeth feel after I've cleaned with my sonicare and it makes cleaning around my braces easier! Love it.

And we're sure your Sonicare missed you as well, Angela! ;) Thanks for the compliments. Also nice to read that the dental professionals were impressed.

    Don't last

    published

I am going to Oral B this time. I have had 4 Sonicare toothbrushes - (last one was a flexcare) & they all break within 2 years. Given that the brush costs the best part of $200 and the replacement heads cost $55 a year, times this by 4 members of the family: this has become an expensive hobby. I might be expecting too much of a small appliance. We shall see...

    Broken Handle

    published

I have always used oral B electric toothbrushes, but I wanted the ultrasonic cleaner unit so swapped to Phillips. The unit excessively vibrated in my hand from day one - but I thought that it was just a different feel. After a while the central spindle started to come loose and eventually would fall out whilst I was using the toothbrush. I got a replacement under warrantee but within a month the new handle was doing exactly the same thing.
    Ultrasonic cleaner. Nice shaped brushes.
Two handles with the same problem. Now out of warrantee .

Received third handle. Now broken after I year, but as the original is out of warrantee no longer covered. If you look at reviews from other countries you will see that this is a common problem.

    Made me switch

    published

For years i had been using Oral-B electric toothbrushes as i thought they were the better ones. My unit stopped holding charge so i did a little more research and came across the Sonicare and i'm glad i swapped.
Using this device for the first couple of times felt weird as i had to get used to the vibrations, but there is a first time use function to get you accustomed to it for the first 20 brushes.
Compared to my old Oral-B's the sonicare made my teeth feel cleaner after each use.

I dont know if the UV unit actually does anything apart from placebo but its nice to have somewhere to store the heads.
Superior clean compared to Oral B's unit

    Extremely poor quality

    published

The ultra violet light malfunctioned within days of purchase. I brought it back and got a replacement. The noise the toothbrush made during use seemed completely different to what it had been with the first device. Decided to ignore it. Within months it was barely usable - the vibration pretty much stopped as soon as you put the brush into your mouth. Let down by Philips once again (my own fault for continuing to buy their products - no more, I promise).
    Good concept
    Atrocious quality.

Replaced 4 times during warranty period - same battery problem

    published

The same battery problem developed for every unit in 2 - 6 months after first use -- the toothbrush would turn on and off by itself when charging, had to take it off the charging unit waiting for return and replacement, and the toothbrush could turn on by itself in the middle of the night, vibrating loudly waking up everyone in the house. This is my fourth unit within the 2 years warranty period, the same problem developed on this one yesterday, just 2 - 3 months after replacement. I am sure Philips knew of the problem for years, but such faulty products are still in their retailing stores.

This particular problem may not be common, but the general malfunction of the device definitely is. I have had two become unuseable within months of purchase/replacement and know two friends who've had similar problems. Very disappointing.

In Philips reply to my review on 26 Aug, it assured me that was not a common problem, and asked me to email them. I emailed them as requested, and received absolutely no reply from them. Absolutely disappointing.
