Princess Cruises Sea Princess (page 2 of 2)

We were in cabin p312 and we had bitties in our beds as well. We found the staff excellent and friendly the food was ok but for a Christmas cruise they could have done something more traditional for Christmas day. We have been on a number of other cruise lines and we found this one ordinary.

Lice in Stateroom B510. Brisbane - Papua New Guinea - December 2016
3 guests, 1 Gold Member (80yrs old), 2 Emerald Members (56yrs old). Our previous trip on Sea Princess was excellent. This trip was a nightmare. After complaining of lice in our stateroom, the Hotel Floor Supervisor conducted an investigation, which returned a negative result. The sheets, pillow cases, and doona covers were changed, and we assumed the room was treated. After 2 more nights, the problem was worse again. Another room investigation showed a negative result, again investigated with torches, not ultra-violet light. Sheets, pillow case...
Read mores and doona covers were changed, and again no fumigation. We again demanded a stateroom change, and we told again there are no spare staterooms. On the last night at 10.30pm, with little sleep over the 9 nights, we threatened the night manager with sleeping on the services desk, if nothing was done. He called the hotel night staff to replace all mattresses, pillows, doonas and linen. I asked where, these were to come from, and was told the spare stateroom on deck 8. Suddenly there was a stateroom vacant, why were we not moved to that stateroom, instead of shifting us out to service the infested room? How had this room become available? The contaminated mattresses, doonas and pillows were taken to this room to replace the items taken for our stateroom. Now we have another stateroom with lice infestations. Why was the room not fumigated? Why, when we were advised to seek a medical examination, were we told it would be at our expense, when Princess created the monster??? Where is your customer satisfaction? We were made out to be dirty people, and we must have brought the lice with us??? None were found??? Your staff have great customer relation skills, but no problem solving skills or understanding of customer expectation. We own and operate a motel in Outback Queensland, and take pride in offering our clientele a clean and pleasant stay. The Department of Health will be contacted, once we have our evidence processed by the relevant departments. We are looking for a full refund of all our expenses incurred. And will take a great deal of pleasure telling everyone about our Sea Princess cruise to Papua New Guinea. We are 3 customers, that will not travel with Princess again. So if you intend on taking a cruise with Princess, get a statement in writing, that your stateroom is lice free. Or just choose another Cruise Line.- 7 reviews

Just did the 17 day Kimberly cruise from Sydney to Perth . It was great wonderful staff and service . It is a great cruise to see parts of Australia . The staff work very hard to make the cruise as smooth as silk. Only negative is the rude elderly Australians on board . We are a group of 9 in early 60s and were considered young by others . Many are rude and grumpy to the staff . We noticed many didn't tip waiters etc at end of cruise . Apart from that the cruise was fabulous .Food, drinks, entertainment and ports 10/10 .

This was our first cruise and it was great, staff were all lovely and there were plenty of options for entertainment! Like many cruises, there was a virus going around but precautions were quickly taken and my husband and I were both fine. We did get something else, but still found a day in our room enjoyable with plenty of room service options and a lovely sea view. The only thing I would have liked is more dancing, but that is personal preference.

Shame we live in Melbourne as this adds around $1,000 to a 2 person cruise.
Despite that, we had a wonderful cruise on Sea Princess stopping at some beautiful islands, some will say, with little to offer. That is not true if you just relax and go with the flow. We are 72 & 76, yes it was hot & humid, but with plenty of water, towels, bathers, cameras and lollies for the children you can enjoy your time ashore.
The islands and people are lovely. Ship was great - been on Dawn Princess - Sea Princess has had a nice upgrade in Horizons and is so ...
We went with Sea Princess to Vanuatu and New Caledonia for 10 days trip on 12/01/2016, the meals and entertainment was good, but they broken my luggage, I took a photo and complaint but no one has replied to me so far.
We have just returned from a trip to New Zealand on the Sea Princess. What a great time we had. We are now planning our next trip. We went to the dining room every night and our waiters Enrique and Gregg were fantastic. They should be recommended for their service. Gregg was always smiling and made our dining experience so enjoyable. Some of the entertainment was fantastic especially Nick Tate and Dianne Cousins, but the shows were not long enough. We had a great time on the Sea Princess and cant wait to cruise with them again.
Sea Princess 12Jan to 22 Jan 10 days South Pacific. SHIP UNDER SEIGE 500children plus
I have never worried about my or my husbands safety traveling, but Oh Boy we both did on this cruise a great percentage of the 500children on board where out of control, parents I hope you had a great time because most others didn't. PRINCESS CRUISES where is and was your DUTY OF CARE to the passengers on that cruise.
Please passengers if you where unhappy let the company no now.
My apologies in my first review I put Sun instead of Sea Princess.

I am an Elite passenger and have travelled on various Princess ships many many times. I hurt my back once and caught a cold on another occasion. We always travel with at least 4 others and some if them get sick. I am a medical person and know a number of the Doctors aboard Princess Ships. They are highly qualified SPECIALISTS, not GP's. Intensivists, A&E Physicians etc. They have all the equipment onboard with multiple ICU beds if necessary. The biggest problem is that passengers don't observe the hygiene protocols required. So many don't wash ...
Read moretheir hands when going to the toilet, you see it all the time. Noro is highly highly contagious and spreads because people don't wash hands. Wash your hands, don't eat at the buffet. A bigger problem is that people don't take humidifiers with them and live in very very low humidity for 14 days or more. You will get sore throats, nasal and sinus issues and of course they get sick. I just returned 3 days ago from a 35 night cruise in an inside cabin. My wife and I are fine. Two of our friends are very ill, they didn't listen and waited 10 days before getting help, way too late. It's not Princesses fault for people spreading germs, same as It isn't the railways, buses and so on.Find out how Princess Cruises Sea Princess compares to other Cruises

Wake up Princess not good enough! Your Hygiene standards are not working!
I boarded the Sea Princess with my husband for the Sydney to Fremantle 17 day Northern Explorer cruise 8 days into the cruise I had what the nurse called Norovirus. I spent my 50th birthday confined to my cabin for 4 days and nights I had no window & no balcony and was needing fresh sea air but was quarantined unable to leave. My cruise card was blocked so I was not allowed to leave the ship even if I tried I was too sick anyway. We chose that cruise so we could visit Darwin, Broome, & Lombok we saw nothing. I am certain I am definitely not alo...
Read morene & of course many others had it too. I totally agree with the comments above this is happening time and time again and as soon as there is an outbreak the staff are seen disinfecting this should be done frequently and especially when new passengers are boarding. The buffet should be permanently controlled by the staff as far as handling the serving spoons not just when there is an outbreak whats with that. I saw a woman leaning her arm and her bracelets into the pasta at horizon buffet. When I was finally allowed to leave I noticed the waiters were cleaning the rails on the deck and the Princess dancers. Does that mean there are no professional cleaners on board? I was disappointed in the outcome the standards have dropped in many ways and this is not just because I was ill. The ship is soon to get a refurb in dry dock Hong Kong after Princess has crammed another 900 passengers on little do they know the previous passengers were very ill. The pattern will no doubt continue.Just came back from being on the Sea Princess, got sick the last few days but can't blame Princess for that, restaurant was really lovely, buffet was good, a bit busy at times. The shows were good, but felt the rest was more suited to older people. Made friends with a group of people which made the cruise better, good to go with a bunch of friends.

At the completion of our cruise around New Zealand on the Sea Princess on December 19, both my husband and I were struck down with Whooping Cough. We overheard several conversations in the last week on board that a number of people had been confined to their cabins with "influenza" or "chest infections". Since whooping cough is highly contagious and is easily spread by airborne droplets from coughing, sneezing and even laughing, I suspect that those people onboard spread the disease in its early stages. I doubt the medical centre on the ship...
Read more would have had the wherewithal to make a correct diagnoses and why would they want to? After all, if you have a serious contagion on board ship you may actually have to do something about it; like give the ship a complete sanitation clean. Also, potential passengers should be aware that the medical centre on board ships is equipped to provide the equivalent of outpatient services and may not have adequate supplies of medication or treatment options. It is always best to visit your own doctor before you embark and have prescriptions filled for drugs you may need, like antibiotics or allergy drugs, etc. Of course, there is not much you can do for viral infections. I've since heard from a relative that was on board another Princess Cruise from Singapore that several people on her ship had what was diagnosed as a "tummy bug" but turned out to be norovirus. I've also since been told that passengers on the Sea Princess on a January 2015 cruise contracted norovirus but were told not to speak to the media about it. I wonder how often Princess change the bed pillows and covers which can hold the norovirus since the virus is spread in vomit and faeces as it's particles become aerosolised? It's about time Australian and New Zealand passengers knew the truth about the cruise ship industry that operates in our waters. The Carnival Corporation operates, Carnival Cruises, Holland America, Cunard, P&O and P&O Australia, Seabourne, Princess Cruises and Costa Cruises. It seems that cruise lines in general are shy about paying taxes but their profits in recent years have topped billions of dollars. Yes, that is with a "B", of US dollars that is. Is it any wonder that the food is so abundant on board and you can change your meal several times at the dinner table and no one bats an eyelid. So the question one would have to ask is why don't they exercise a better duty of care when it comes to protecting passengers and crew from infectious diseases? And, why don't they tell passengers that there are health issues on board so those who aren't ill can be more vigilant about protecting themselves and their exposure to potential areas of infection? Well, I suppose it all comes back to the cruise lines primary purpose of extracting as much money as they can from each passenger with dodgy art exhibitions, so called merchandise "sales" and inflated shore excursion prices. In other words we want people to mingle in common areas as much as possible and spend, spend, spend. It also comes back to the fact that cruise ships are not subject to Australian and New Zealand laws when they are at sea. But back to our Sea Princess cruise. There were staff walking around disinfecting handrails and public areas at times during the two week cruise, but of course this was all too little too late; the bugs were out, rapidly multiplying and infecting others on board. It may have been a good idea to disinfect the air-conditioning filters as well. I am very angry that the Captain and crew on the Sea Princess didn't take adequate precautions to protect healthy passengers and inform everyone that were was an epidemic. That should be a basic requirement on board cruise ships. And what is it with this "discretionary gratuity"? I had a massage at the Lotus Spa and given that it cost twice the price of a land-based massage at an upmarket spa, I was gobsmacked to find that the masseuse added a "discretionary gratuity" to the final account, without even giving me the choice of whether or not I wanted to pay it; as the term "discretionary" would imply. The ships that ply the northern hemisphere automatically add the "discretionary gratuity" to your account on a daily basis; allegedly to save you finding cash to tip your cabin steward, etc. However, when we did an Alaskan cruise we found that the crew were very casual about customer service because they knew they would be receiving the "discretionary gratuity" regardless. Yes, of course, you can specifically ask to have the amount deducted from your account a couple of days before disembarkation but I have images of one's toothbrush being used to clean the public toilets and food being spat on. Come on cruise lines, you are 'making a motza' from cruising, passengers pay the staff wages in their fare and then you want them to top up your lousy wage rates by adding a "discretionary gratuity". Why not pay an adequate wage from those billions you are making and I will decide if I have received good service or not and tip accordingly? I have given an "OK" rating because apart from the obvious failings I have mentioned, the food in the dining room was excellent and the cruise around New Zealand was very pleasant. If/when I cruise again I will be wearing a face mask and disposable gloves when visiting the public areas! If you wish to explore further anything I have mentioned here a bit of judicious searching on the net will reveal any number of reputable sites that can provide verification.- Incentivised Review No

I have traveled on the Sea Princess four times and could not dream of a better way to holiday, particularly as we are in our older years. We have always found the cruise staff to be generous in their friendliness and dealings with all passengers, however on all but the first trip I have finished up with flu like symptons. These have been quite debilitating and we have taken all precautions to ensure personal cleanliness and hygiene but there are matters which I feel that the cruise line could concentrate on. The first and foremost is the cabin ...
Read morepillows. These seem to be in continuous use and I have never seen them sanitized in any way. Perhaps they should be changed after each cruise and steamed or laundered with a steriliser. The same applies to bedding which only has the cover replaced but which must surely be infected with germs and viral matter. I do believe that the Federal Health authorities should be more involved in checking ships and health matters thereon before allowing passengers to land. So many people travel from overseas to cruise from Australia and they may bring viral infections from their home countries which they then introduce to all passengers. ie. Asian flue or Influenza A from North America into our season here. As they say do not be alarmed but do be aware and this also relates to Government and State Health Authorities.- 2 reviews

Passengers 80% over 70!...entertainment geared for same. Singers who look like they were chosen from the audience! Oh to hear some recent decent tunes! Habadashery old and worn. Staff doing their best _REALLY someone needs to take a good look at what the Sea Princess offers....overpriced tours, hardsell retail items and bingo...$30 to participate. Art prices that are unrealistic and plummet over the course of journey! Internet that is exorbitant...business owners beware! Unless you like being excommunicated dont cruise!
Food and service excel...
My sister and I have just returned from a 14 day cruise on sea princess. We were offered no on board credits. Also the prices were no cheaper than our shops at home. The staff were great its a shame there was not more information given from the bridge.
So, so disappointing. So many hiccups and lack of honest information. Accommodation was excellent and Philippine staff very attentive and professional BUT change of itinerary, long, long queues for disembarking processes revealed inexperienced organisers in the administration staff of board. So many old people with needs were left in queues before staff offered assistance. While on board we received so many comments from people who were receiving free travel because of previous experiences. Sea princess, give it a miss!

This was our 5th cruise with Princess cruises, and this time on the Sea Princess for a 35 night cruise to Hawaii. As usual it was fabulous. Honestly, there was not one staff member we could fault, they were all wonderful and accommodating. We had room service each morning for breakfast which we had on our balcony. That was always delivered on time, and staff went out of their way to ensure everything was as ordered. We did have trouble trying to find a table at lunch time for the buffet, but we overcame that by leaving it till about 1:30, when ...
Read morethe room started to clear. Dinner was always amazing, and I cant commend the staff enough. The barista's where we had coffee each morning knew exactly what our orders would be, the 'cookie man' who brought afternoon tea around knew exactly which were our favourites, the bar staff knew exactly what drinks we normally ordered. Maybe it also comes down to how you treat the staff too, we have always treated all staff with respect, and we have ALWAYS had the best of service! We have now booked our 6th cruise with Princess! Unpacking once, waking to a different place every few days! Totally stress free!- 3 reviews

Having just returned from 40 fantastic days cruising on Sea Princess from Sydney to the Orient and return, my husband and I are in awe of Princess Cruises and the service we received. Other than a rather lengthy check-in, everything from embarkation to disembarkation was handled with friendly proficiency and care. The crew were so helpful, especially [name removed] (our cabin steward); [names removed] (waiters for table in the Traviata dining room) and [name removed] whose amazing kindness to passengers in the Horizon Court was noted, valued an...
Read mored sooo appreciated by those less mobile than ourselves. We've already booked our next cruise with Princess wish we could afford to travel with them sooner than next year. Excellent friendly service, value for money, great food, accurate and informative information about the ports we visited. This was the first time traveling on Princess and never again, we went on December 28th to Fiji and South Pacific on Sea Princess.
4 Days into our trip we decided to do some washing, only to find out after we had washed our clothes there was only one dryer working on the ship and that was not on the level we had our washing on.
Apparently they were waiting for parts for the dryers, could they not have told us. My bed was awful, 2 single mattresses on a queen base, When we decided to go to the formal dining room after 3 nights we were gr...
Read moreeeted with where have you been you are booked to come here my answer was is this not an optional choice. Some staff were just plain rude, up on deck we had to ask so many times for our tables to be cleared of used glasses when we could not get our own glass on the table. Food was so ordinary, not the standard of food we have been used to on cruises. Entertainment was boring. Internet person was openly rude to my husband. All in all the only good thing was the room attendant and getting off the ship. I will never ever recommend this cruise line to anyone. And even though I put in these complaints to Princess lines no one has bothered to apologize to me at any stage, they obviously do not care about Australian passengers. The room attendant and the Steak houseTim you are scaring us, is it really that bad as we are booked for 1 days in dec, should we cancel and loose are deposit
very much agree, Princess do not care about the Australian Market, They only want our Money...
What a cruise. Fabulous crew all of them. Great entertainment. The crew, Cabin Stewards, Alana and Alan in the Crooners Bar, Dinner Table Waiters, cruise director Martin, the Sea Princess show band - what a show, singers, dancers Great !!!!!
The food 5 star food and 5 star fine dining. The entire crew goes to extremes to cater for every wish.
My wifi and I have just finished a 14 day cruise to the South Pacific.
Just cannot enough words to describe a magical experience.
If you haven't cruised with Princess- get on and book

Customs and security scanning.
Checkin was quick and efficient... However progress through customs/security scanning was very slow and the queue backed up badly. I assumed a breakdown of equipment but that was not confirmed by staff.
We were told by staff to sit down and wait because it would be some time before the problem would be fixed. Later comers then began to form a long queue again and were eventually given queue number priority cards before being told to sit down also.
These cards were not offered to us who were already seated ...

I agree with the comments entirely except I would say much of the food was bad. I also got no apologies from Princess when I complained.
