Hair loss
I have six indoor cats and tried this product. The day after I applied profender 4 of them had hair loss! One was pretty bad. I would not recommend this product.
terrible, DO NOT USE
we treated 2 cats with this. One was fine with the product, the other almost died. Skin was burned, cat was nauseous and retching. We followed all directions and this is NOT A SAFE product.
Horrible poison
After 1 hour after applying Profender my kitty couldn't stand, couldn't walk straight because of ataxia and tremors. She also started vomiting. Cried desperately. Than I washed it out from her neck and maybe it saved her life. Never use this poison again
Poison
4 hours after applying Profender my 2 year old cat could not walk straight (ataxia) and had tremors which in the pamphlet says is more on the rare side of side effects. Now that I have done research there is no way this happens rarely! Of course it is now after hours and I have to wait until morning to contact my vet. I just hope my kitty can recover and not become one of their so called rare deaths from these side effects. I will never try this on another animal again! I have never had issues from the oral panacur given to my pets in previous years (whose side effect list is nothing close to this poison). Shame on me for letting the vet push this garbage on me without researching myself!

Caused fitting/seizures :(
It's very difficult to use a spot on product that doesn't drip down the neck when the cat jerks its head after administration. However careful one is to get it on the right spot behind the neck.
I have a camera on my cats overnight. Imagine my horror when one of them (15 years old) started fitting badly :( She'd been given Profender during the day and I know she ingested some of it. She fitted for 2 nights and then it stopped. I have the video clips which I showed to the vet who accepted this was probably a reaction to Profender. May...
Read morebe an allergic reaction to Praziquantel, the active ingredient in Profender. It does not mention in the contraindication section of Bayer's leaflet for Profender that in very rare cases it can cause seizures if ingested. On the other hand another product called Stronghold does mention 'reversible seizures can be caused'. But I still used Stronghold and took the risk! (Fortunately no adverse reactions). I've reported what happened to Bayer who told me the toxins leave the body within 48 hours which correlates with when fits started and stopped. Fortunately my cat seems to be over it now but my heart goes out to those cat owners who lost their cat friends through use of this insecticide. It's very hard to find flea/worm controls that do not include risks of unwanted side effects for some animals. I hope what happened to my cat will help to alert other pet owners to the real possibility of the 'rare' side effects that do exist and can happen.Cat seems to have a reaction to Profender
After applying provender my cat is distressed and won't come back inside the house. She is obviously in pain and thinks I hurt her. I'm so worried she has some of the reported side effects. It was prescribed by the vet which I find disturbing as the reviews are dreadful!

Will Never Use Again
My cat was able to lick it and he immediately began to foam at the mouth, so I placed a cone on him.
Several hours later he began stumbling like a drunkard (ataxia) and began to have tremors within 30 minutes of the ataxia. I called Bayer and they suggested I wash it off with dish soap. Bayer-Bayer themselves were incredibly friendly; however, I will never use this product again.
Both ataxia and tremors are neurological side effects, and I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't also experiencing hallucinations, vision impairment, or seizures.
After 5 hours of shaking, the tremors subsided, but he is still experiencing ataxia, albeit to a lesser degree, 12 hours later.

Do not use it killed my cat!
If i could give 0 stars I would, am absolutely disgusted this product still on the market. I had a lively healthy cat that I put this product on as a preventative medicine. 30 mins I no longer have a cat. This medicine is pure evil poison. I didn't even get the chance to get him to a vet to counteract the poison before he was gone.
Do not use this product it murdered my cat!!!
Certainly NOT recommended!!!
I have a semi-feral puss and as tablet giving is an issue I bought this product from the vet and used it 2 days ago. Thankfully my cat did not lick the site of application but he has extensive hair loss. The back of his head and where the product dripped down his neck is now bald down to the skin. Too early to say if he has suffered further but I do not recommend using this product at all.

Do not use--has hurt our cats
4 days ago our two cats were treated with Profender by our veterinarian. Within hours they had trouble walking, seeing, wouldn't eat and wouldn't come out of hiding. They screamed in pain if you touched them anywhere near the application site. I immediately washed off what I could of the treatment. We took them back in as soon as we could the next morning. They were running high fevers, eyes were dilated with no reactions. One cat could not walk any more. They kept them for 2 days, flushing out their systems with IVs and steroids. They did bloo...
Read mored work to rule out other things, but it all came back normal. The cats were sent home with us after 2 days because they could not get them to eat or drink and hoped being home would help. I finally got them to eat. But they are still not right. The application sight is still painful to them if touched. They have difficulty walking and fall off of things. They have not been able to determine if it is nerve damage or motor skill damage, but the vet says this may not go away. They are just a year old and these perfectly healthy cats are not healthy anymore. Though we seem to be one of the luckier ones on here, as ours are still alive. We have a call in to Bayer about this, but from the other responses on here, I don't hold out much hope for a resolution from them. Please don't use this product.- 25 reviews

Never had a problem with my cat
Have never had a problem with my cats & this product. One of my cats was adopted as an adult and when we tried to worm him it became quite apparent he was NOT used to the procedure at all.. even the vet couldn’t get the tablets down his throat.. profender to the rescue!! Cats WILL froth at the mouth if they are able to lick ANY topical treatment (flea or worming).. you MUST apply high up on the neck where the cat can not reach!
Poison do not use!
How I wish I had read the reviews on this site before I used this dangerous product. Within 10 minutes of applying my cat Neo was vomiting and frothing at the mouth. Terrified I gave him a bath and washed it off. He seemed to recover ok but today I discover that it has burnt all the fur off the application site at the back of the neck! I am so furious and praying that it has not caused any other damage that is yet to reveal itself.

I will not use again on Buddy or Black Kitty
I put profender on my two cats yesterday evening per the veterinarian.
The application worked well on Black Kitty but Buddy managed to lick it and he immediately started foaming out the mouth. He became anxious, ran around, licked it again, foamed again, was acting strange and sick, etc. Put a cone around his neck, that helped for a bit but he began to scratch at it and lick his paw. So Buddy ate, drank, had a bowel movement and slept well from what I could tell.
This morning, he went out with Black Kitty, spent all day outside. They cam...
Read moree in this evening. The profender was still dried on his back which leads me to believe he licked it through the day. I've spent all evening cleaning it off and I think Buddy will be fine but I was not happy with this product. Those flea collars Bayer makes are a good product. This profender tube I got from the vet is not worth a damn. It made Buddy sick and that's not right. This worked great for our cats
I have used profender for a few years now and have had no issues. Works and no side efffects! Ive used it on my own cats plus the strays i feed.
The Vet Prescribed it, it's excellent- cat gained wieght, normal poops
People who write their opinions are turd brains, they must be doing something different to the cat. My cat was never de-wormed, 9 yrs old. Must be people who work for the competitor. contact me,
Bad news
It's easy alright. Easy to harm your cat! I used it a few years ago and out of 4 cats, it removed the hair from the application site and left the skin red and inflamed. Called the Bayer rep, and what a waste of time. Totally unresponsive, just said "oh we haven't had that problem". Sure they haven't. Don't like Bayer for anything but an aspirin.
If you want to slowly watch your cat die..then get this. what a joke!
This is the worst drug ever made. an otherwise healthy cat has been poisoned terribly. She wont eat at all. pooping just blood, twitches her poor little head. she can hardly walk. and we probably have to euthanize after spending $300.00 to try to fix this. She was given profender 15 days ago. & she is getting worse & worse-I am disgusted. I just pray I know when the right time is to end her suffering. I keep just saying we will give it another day.......
Profender - Cat worming pipettes
I have 5 cats. Every now & again two of my cats in particular will bring home
gifts of an unfortunate wee mouse or some poor bird. which means the cats have high risk of getting worms so must get treated for worms & fleas & done on a regular basis. People think they're doing th! right thing buying products which state to kill parasites worms & fleas which they will do... all worms except the ones usually caught through hunting... tapeworms.
You need a separate wormer to kill tapeworms..
I buy Profender pipettes from my vet ...
My sweet Oliver hasn't been the same since applying Profender!
Like so many others on here my cat is having a terrible reaction to profender. His third eyelid starting showing within an hour of applying. I called the vet and they said to call back in a couple of days and make an appointment for Monday. I called the next day to make the appointment. I took him in yesterday and they ran tests. First putting dye in his eyes to see if there was an injury that was causing the third eyelid to show. I assured her that it wasn't an injury it was from the profender. I was charged $30 for the eye dye. They ra...
Read moren tests to see if his kidneys and liver were ok. $130 dollars later everything came back normal. I had just paid almost $200 for his initial visit which was because he has a cough. She mentioned that maybe it was something neurological. What??? My poor boy. We were sent home with no answers. Let's wait a little longer to get this medication out of his system is what she said. Although she just told me that when they spoke to Bayer they said it's out of his system in 4 days. Tonight he came walking out of the room and cried a couple of times and fell into his side and cried a couple more times. This isn't my cat. He doesn't do this. He's energetic and a giant pain in the bottom. But he's the most lovable boy. He plays fetch and loved to snuggle. This isn't the behavior that he normally displays. He's sleeping right now and he ate a little earlier. I will comment more to update you if that's allowed. If not I'll create a part two. I noticed that there aren't any follow-ups on here. Please pray for my Oliver. And please Bayer admit that there a problem. I was never told that there could be serious side effects from this medicine. It's great that it works for some but for the ones that have passed its not fair. It's not fair that these kitties lives were shortened because of a product that didn't come with enough warnings. The pain the owners feel knowing that they applied it to their fur babies. I can't explain the guilt that I am feeling. I pray my boy is ok.Never Use This Product
My vet thought that our 11 year old cat had worms becasue she was constipated and throwing up at intervals of three to four weeks apart.
The vet wanted to give her Revolution and Profender the same day, but I deferred to wait a month in between.
I am so glad I did, or the combo may have killed her immediately, after what happened this week.
First we used Revolution, and waited over a month and then used Profender this past Tuesday.
We gave her the Profender around noon, and by 5:30 p.m. she was foaming at the mouth.
She ate supper and se...
This is disgusting!!!!
Vet gave this to my cat three months ago. She said is still suffering. Ripping her hair out. So sad!
My Cat Died...
I took my 18yr old cat to the vet Tuesday afternoon, for a check up. She didn't seem to be gaining weight, and was eating well. The vet decided to use Profender on her, in case she had worms. I took her home and fed her, and she ate well. Wednesday morning, she acted like she wasn't real hungry but ate a little, the same with Wednesday night. This morning (Thursday morning) I went out to feed her, and when she came out of her bed, she was wobbly, and didn't even acknowledge me, nor want anything to eat, and went under the car, crying like she w...
Read moreas in pain. I called the vet and they said to bring her in. I went out to find her and looked and looked, and when I found her, she was dead. I feel that the only thing that could have effected an otherwise older healthy cat, was something in the Profender. So very sorry that I ever tried it. So sorry Kitty.............forgive me.Bad side effects and didn't work
For the amount of neurological side effects this med gave my kitten, it didn't even rid him of round worm. He is still infected the poor thing. Really Bayer? More aggravation for all of our pets, and my kids. I've told my pet owning friends and family to NEVER allow profender on their animal, and getting my money back from vet. Ridiculous!
Sad ending
We are out of town on vacation and a very dear friend was watching our 1 year old cat. He started to vomit and have diarrhea 4 days ago. She found round worm in his vomit and took it to my vet who prescribed Profender. My friend applied the medicine that day. When she went to check on him the next day she found him limp as a rag doll and lying in his own urine. She immediately rushed him to an emergency vet clinic and they started him in fluids and antibiotics immediately as he was jaundiced and hypothermic... very critical condition. After 24 ...
Read morehours, an ultrasound and numerous other treatments they ruled out FIP, hepatitis and gall bladder or liver disease, they were perplexed (as was my regular vet who was also involved at this point). He then began having seizures as the toxins were building up in his brain. Over the phone I had to give the ok to euthanize him and my friend was there to hold him as he passed. She made it possible for a FaceTime goodbye with him and my husband and me. We are of course devastated as 5 days ago we left a very healthy and happy little guy who had just recently had his yearly exam and blood work and all was perfect. There are no toxins in our home that he could have gotten into and he is strictly an indoor cat so all signs are pointing to this awful awful medication, especially after reading so many horrible reviews. No pet or pet owner should have to go through what we just experienced.Do not use this product!
I used this on my cat! He immediately started foaming at the mouth running around the room, going crazy. I threw him in the bath tub and washed him off several times.
He was better the next day but still traumatized!!
