Solid and Powerful
I have a 90 by 22 metres back yard and a small front garden. I use a ride-on mower for the rear yard and a 2 stroke mower for the front garden and areas where the ride-on cannot go. My 2 stroke mower became unreliable, and 2 stroke mowers were being phased out. I deceided to buy a push mower with a large engine so it could mow the rear yard if the ground was to wet to use the heavy ride-on. I bought a Rover MacQuarie 173cc mower in March 2016. The mower was in a box so i did some simple assembly.Remember to put oil in the engine ! The price was...Read more
discounted so this is probably why it was still in the box. The first thing I noticed was the sound! sounds like a quiet ride on mower . The mower has an engine brake so you have to go round the garden moving any obstacales and opening gates etc. The brake is a good idea in case you fall near the mower etc. Pros and Cons. Initially not as powerful as it sounds, but once engine run in there is enough power for the large cut diameter. Initially pull start seems undergeared meaning a long pull to spin motor. The starting is easier when engine is run in and not much effort. This mower is best at catching the cut grass. To fit the mulching plug you need to keep the fitting area clean but if the grass is not too long the mower mulches the cut grass without the plug. There is a cleaning port to attach a hose to help clean the underside of the mower. I was giving the underside an extra clean (with the spark plug disconnected) when my hand brushed against one of the cutting blades, I was surprised that it still had a really sharp and straight edge, my other push mowers had badly worn blades after less use. I have to say this mower has been a good buy.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
