Great mower with great torque

published

This Ryobi mower with Subaru engine always starts first or second pull. The torque of the engine in long grass is excellent. You think the engine is going to stall and it just keeps going. The mulching plug in association with the 4 blades mulches the grass better than any other mower have owned. My next door neighbours on both sides now own Ryobi mowers they were so impressed at how well the engine performed in long grass and easy starting. Would prefer a snorkel air filter to the air filter on the motor. Would happily recommend this Ryobi Subaru 190cc powered mower.

Awesome mower

published

This has to be the best mower I have ever owned. I have had this for about 16 months. It has a commercial grade Subaru industrial engine so it has heaps of power. Even cutting thick lush kikuyu grass it powers through no trouble. The mower is heavier than other similar machines and could be hard work on a steep section but mine is all flat so no problems. It starts first pull usually and never misses a beat and seems to run a long time on a tank of petrol. I changed the oil after about a year and it was still very clean. You can find a workshop manual online if you search for Subaru 190 cc industrial engine.

Best mower I've used

published

She starts on first pull mostly, odd occasion it took a second. I love the steel height adjustment as it holds its place no matter how bumpy the ground is. I've used Masport, Victa and Morrison mowers that have plastic height adjustment which often bounced out of its slot on bumpy ground and have worn down over time. It's grunty and cuts almost anything. Especially good on very long grass. Mulched and cuts well and has a good catcher too. Given it is a 190cc, I was pleased with fuel consumption as it has similar to any other mower I've used before. I was also surprised that it's not loud at all. It's no louder than any other mower. Overall, I have to say it made mowing so much easier than ever before.

Terrible

published

Won't go after 4 uses. Checked everything & replaced spark plug. Bunnings solution - I buy the $725 key start mower. Not impressed with the mower or bunnings service. It's now sitting in my shed propping up my garden tools and gathering dust. Waste of money this mower was - would I recommend it? No.

Don't buy Ryobi Mowers !!!!

published

After 8 months, mower # 1 fell apart … wheels and axels ! Mower # 2…after 6 months won't work (petrol leaking into air filter !). Ryobi and Bunnings don't want to know about it. Paid top dollar for a reliable mower and got rubbish ! Seriously …. WOULD NEVER BUY A RYOBI MOWER EVER AGAIN !!!!

Very Good Mower

published

Have purchased this mower a few months back. and must say I can not fault it. Easy to put together, easy to get mulch plug in and out, easy to clean. Does an excellent job on catching the grass as well as mulching. The mower thanks to the Subaru engine just powers through long thick grass. I found this mower easy to maneuver and handle. Have read some very negative reviews on here, but if you follow the directions and all warning tags and labels on the mower prior to starting you will have no problems.

Leave it Alone

published

A very nice looking machine but looks aren't everything! Extremely heavy and not suitable for anything other than large lawns. Vibrations after only four cuts causes the handle securing knobs to shake loose. Very poor cutting on damp grass - the grass looks butchered. Damp grass doesn't collect in the grass box. The so called cleaning mechanism - hose attachment - doesn't work and the machine is too heavy to lift to scrape away the grass from underneath. Not easy to keep clean, not easy to manoeuvre. This mower replaced a Mountfield with a briggs and Stratton engine which was used over 6 seasons. In future I'll stick to that make. Really disappointed.

Starts and runs for 15 seconds then backfires and fouls the spark plug. Great Chinese product!

Replace plug regardless, just been through this. Plug on a tester may read ok but under compression falters.

I'm dealing with this to mate. Such a temperamental motor. Loves to back fire now as well.

I have just solved this problem with a replacement spark plug. Had checked timing key, tappet settings, cleaned carburettor, checked spark plug, still hard to start and back firing. I replaced the spark plug and problem solved. Just guessing, I assume the plug malfunctioned under compression pressure which I understand can happen. Hope this helps.
