This is a great mower with just one niggle - the grass catcher system

Worst mower I have ever had, its heavy difficult to push especially up hill the front digs in also in soft lawns. With the rear wheels offset you can only mow close to walls etc. in one direction I tried to take this back to Bunnings but they would not accept it anyone want it

Love this mower big beefy engine for the price ploughs through long grass no problems wet grass a bit of a problem with blocking up but havent had it stall takes 10 secs to stop n clean out but if its that wet n long n you dont like getting dirty dont let it get so long I took the mulcher out n left the catcher off proped up the flap ...problem solved .. if u dont mind getting green legs that is. Not noisy good cutting height selection love the hose fitting the coulor just adds to the awesomeness and really comfortable to use doesnt make my back sore like others ive used but yes extremely happy
cool colour, erganomic, cutting ability
handels a pain to fold for transport in my car needs quick release especialy the bottom 2 bolts

The beast of mowers

published

Love this mower. Goes through long grass with ease. Sadly it does not come with a rear fitting side throw Shute. Still I can always make one fairly cheaply.. Started really easily with 3 priming pumps and one pull of the cable. Found it to be quieter than my last Briggs and Stratton.
Power, ease of straining, easy to clean
Need a side throw attachment to fit on the rear For when cutting long grass

Best thing ever

published

Have had for 6 months now best thing I could have brought. Starts all the time, cleans up all the grass does leave anything behind, The 190cc engine is very quiet and has plenty of power and this mower cuts wet clover grass very well and fills catcher completely without dropping clumps or blocking ....

Absolutely Great!

published

Powerful, does a great job, good to be able to mulch as well as catch, fuel efficient, good at picking up leaves only when you don't want to mow the grass, easy to start, inexpensive for what it is, particularly as it is the only engine with OHC. It is the best mower we could have bought!
OHC, reliable, easy to start, 4 blades, mulch & catch
A little bit of vibration by, I think the metal cover over the exhaust, particularly as you lift the mower slightly to change direction

Brilliant to use

The 190cc engine is very quiet and has plenty of power and this mower cuts wet clover grass very well and fills catcher completely without dropping clumps or blocking the chute- the 4 blades creates very good suction to pick up leaves -this is the best mower I have owned and used as I am a lawn mowing contractor so have used all brands over the years
Quality engine and durable body

Very close to a Honda

published

I was considering buying a Honda but while researching mowers found this one. Motor is very easy to start. Runs very smooth and maybe quieter than the old Victa. I have been told that Honda or Rover blades fit this model so no problem finding replacement blades. I like the petrol on/off tap so I can run the mower to stop with the tap off. Also the carbie is metal not plastic. Nothing to rave about the cutting performance because most mowers have the same result.
Easy to start, smooth, quality construction
air filter is paper not washable

Good mower but where do you get blades

published

Great mower. Starts easily and is very good on dry grass. I have couch and the mulcher works well provided the grass isn't wet. The tank size is adequate for about 1.5 hours of mowing. The height of the mower prevents getting under low branches of trees. Stylish to look at all thought heavy to push.
Easy to start. Good size fuel tank.
Can't find blades. Height to get under low branches of trees

You will probably find that standard blades will fit it. Can't swear to this but I think so

A good starting machine

published

pulled the cord and away it went, only issue is when cutting lawns that are damp or wet does cause the blades to slow and stop, however when the grass is dry there were no issues, when I had figured out stopping the motor slowly caused fuel starvation, then stopping it fast to empty the cuttings made starting the machine very easy.
A large fuel tank to cut large lawns.
large fuel tank, easy to start, powerful motor
to cut lawns that are damp or wet will stall

Avoid for large lawns

published

The mower looks ok and the motor starts without fuss.. In fact, the motor seems pretty good. But that's where the good things end. This mower has a nasty habit of filling up with grass underneath, which makes it stop. You have to perform a messy operation to clear the grass and it happens every 5m squared or so.

I expect this is what the other reviews are referring to when they say the mower stops.. It gets so full of grass that the blades can't spin.

The mower is in mulch mode by default (which is not explained in the manual) and even with the plug out the same problems occur.

Do not buy.
Motor seems ok
Doesn't cut grass

I love this thing

so easy to start this machine. 3 push on the primer and a lazy pull of the cord and away she goes. very quiet at low speed and even at full chat is not very noisy compared to other lawn mowers I have used.
amazed at how the catcher is fulled to the brim. love the power of the engine. I have not yet used the mulcher feature.
did I mention it also looks good?
and I thought the price was good.
easy to start, powerful engine, good catcher.
nothing

KEEPS STOPPING AND WON'T START EASILY - ONLY USED 4 TIMES DUE TO THIS

published

I bought this because it looked good and had all the right bells and whistles and was comparible to the Victor and Rover that I have always had so I gave it a go. Worst decision ever. I have only been able to mow my full lawn 1x. I purchased in Dec 12 and have only used 4 times due to the problem. I ring Bunnings for help and we get started but keeps stopping. It is also not easy to start with this problem. The mulcher is also not easy to put in and out of and the grass doesn't go into the catcher very well.
looks and being a reliable brand.
Not being very reliable for the price. Hard to start when says easy start. Keeps stopping.

The mulching plug is quite easy to put in place. There is a video on the web on how to do it if you aren't sure.

Didn't Stay the Course

published

The Ryobi lawnmower was 'on promotion' and I was talked into buying one. It ticks all the boxes: powerful engine, wide cut and 4 blade mulcher: it looks good too. It worked OK for 6 mows then wouldn't start - took it back - "Oh we don't sell these anymore." I wonder why?
Great action, works well as a mulching mower.
Fuel starvation problem

Starts and runs for 15 seconds then backfires and fouls the spark plug. Great Chinese product!

Replace plug regardless, just been through this. Plug on a tester may read ok but under compression falters.

I'm dealing with this to mate. Such a temperamental motor. Loves to back fire now as well.

I have just solved this problem with a replacement spark plug. Had checked timing key, tappet settings, cleaned carburettor, checked spark plug, still hard to start and back firing. I replaced the spark plug and problem solved. Just guessing, I assume the plug malfunctioned under compression pressure which I understand can happen. Hope this helps.
