I have had a Schweigen GG-901 rangehood in our kitchen for 14 months and notice that we still get get quite a lot of cooking smells lingering, even when I have the extraction fan on high. I've checked the ducting to make sure there are no kinks etc (which there aren't, but we do have 1 right angled bend in it to get around roof trusses) and can't work out why it isn't sucking the fumes out better. I washed the filters in our dishwasher this week, so they are clean. When I hold my hand next to the filters when the fan is on high, I can't even feel it drawing any air. When I remove the filters and place my hand next to the fan, I can feel minimal air movement, but not a lot - is this normal?? I was expecting a lot more air movement, given the rating of 1080m3/hr.

We have the same problem, for the price, I find this product pretty useless.

Hi RobZ,

Thanks for your feedback and sorry to hear you're not entirely happy with your purchase.
However, this definitely doesn't sound normal, sounds like there could be an installation fault at hand, or even the right angle bend contributing to the lack of suction. Did you use one of our recommended installers to install the unit?

Please call us on 1300 881 693 (option 1 for Service) from 9am - 5:30pm Monday to Friday we'll be able to help. We'll also look into the install for you. Please call us, so we can sort this out for you. Your enjoyment of our products and satisfaction with our service are our top priorities!

I hope we can get this issue resolved ASAP for you.

Super quiet
Ridiculous amount of condensation.
Was installed by a professional to the roof, outside
Dont really think the suction is that great.
So far i am dissapointed as we have an induction and was sold this product to now learn its not recommended for induction due to them heating up so quickly and creating more steam than a gas or electric stove...
Will try to 'warm' the rangehood up which has been suggested to us in the guide book.
Hope this helps the condensation otherwise will be contacting you directly

Hi Wayne,

Induction cooktops are designed to provide rapid heating and greater heat consistency. Unfortunately, for some customers, condensation can form on the rangehood filters. The immediate and contained heat source produces vapours rapidly. This prevents the filters from gradually warming up and increases the chance of condensation forming. There are many variables that can contribute to the condensation problem associated with induction cooktops and rangehoods. Some of these variables include, but are not limited to:

The Country or State you live in (example, WA versus VIC, and the variables in daily temperatures)
The position of your home and kitchen (morning/afternoon sun)
The quality of pots and cookware you are using
Installation height of rangehood
Rapid heating
Ducting angle
Filter size

It is important to understand that neither the rangehood nor the induction cooktop are faulty. In some circumstances, the combination of the rangehood, the induction cooktop, and the many variables within your home can lead to condensation forming on your rangehood filters.

If you do continue to have issues with condensation, please give our friendly customer service team a call on 1300 829 066 (M-F 9am to 5.30pm AEST) and we can organise for a technician to come out and inspect your rangehood and installation.

I am considering installing a Schweigen 90cm External Motor Undermount Rangehood. Is the external motor unit suitable for a coastal enviroment?

We live on the coast and it works ok ... but it’s weak and no different to one that’s not ducted. Waste of almost $1000 in our opinion.

Hi Merv,
Yes, our Isodrive motors are suitable for a coastal environment, I would suggest the Isodrive 1600 as the best option as it is IPX4 weather rated. Being made from galvanised steel it is more durable.

We plan placing the unit into an existing chimney flue as it will replace a 25 year old Bosch 900 mm unit. The Bosch has the motor inside the unit & simply sends the extraction straight up the chimney. Do I really need an external motor given that most of the existing noise from the Bosch is muffled & tends to rise up the old chimney flue?

We are looking to purchase a Schweigen undermount (silent) rangehood with 1600 external motor. Some of the comment said it is noisy at high setting. some said it is quiet. Would someone help us help. Is it quiet or noisy?

We have had this for a year now and it is the best extraction fan we’ve ever had anywhere.
It’s definitely load OUTSIDE the house where the motor is. Inside the house, you literally don’t notice it’s even running on the lowest speeds. When it is on max speed, you can hear that it is on, but it is most certainly not loud. For example, if I’m using the wok, the sound of the gas hon and the sizzling in the wok is pretty much all you hear in the kitchen.

I do know that the more expensive schweigen range are very silent but it also depends on how you install the unit. If you install the exhaust on the roof it’s less noisy but this will come with an extra cost I suppose. We just went with the cheaper version as we were trying to keep our kitchen under minimal cost. In my opinion if you are going to be living in your forever home and you can afford it spend the extra $$ and go with the top of the range schweigen rangehood and have it installed correctly the noise will be almost silent and the extraction on these fans are superb. Be sure the rangehood covers your entire cooktop otherwise your above cabinets will be splattered with grease spots and you will be forever cleaning them. The filters come out on these rangehoods and go directly in the dishwasher. They are definitely worth the investment if you purchase correctly. Most retailers that stock these units will have them working on display so you can see how they function and how silent they can be. I believe you need to pay extra for the roof installation parts etc so ask plenty questions when buying one so you understand what you are up for in costs. Don’t compromise however the schweigens are the best on the market.

for those of you who are happy with the low level of noise, may I ask which model number you have? I'm looking at the 900mm model either HN9UM (Harvey Norman exclusive) or GG-901 (Good Guys exclusive). Extraction is great at 1080m3/hr but worried about the noise as the range hood will be vented straight out the wall behind it. Not sure if it's going to be noisy. It's for a granny flat which has open plan dining/kitchen/living. thanks for your help!

Hi Su. We got the UM1170-9S. Pretty powerful and very little noise inside even on top speed. If you're outside the house with the fan on 5 there is a fair bit of noise (but can't be heard inside. Like you, the motor is on the outside wall right behind the rangehood) but at speeds 1,2 and 3 the noise outside is pretty negligible.Hope this helps!

Hi Su, Looking at this too but as the moror is NOT remote from the rangehood, expect it to be noisy. It's a trade off - price & extraction v noise. The remote units are crazy expensive but hey, I'd love one.

Hello Su. I don't have the answer for you but I too am looking to buy the HN9UM Harvery Norman exclusive. As your question was in May, could I ask you if you did buy that model? If so, how have you found it?

For those who have it in their open plan kitchen - which size motor did you get and was it powerful enough?

Hi Alice - we have the standard 900 external single motor over a 900mm 5-burner gas cooktop. We have a pretty large open plan kitchen/dining/living area - around 60 square metres - and the range hood works really well. For wok cooking / stirfries we use it on top speed (5) and virtually all of the smells and definitely all of the smoke/steam gets sucked right up. Hope this helps!

We are looking at installing a Schweigen undercount and I'm wondering if the 900 wide would be appropriate for a 1100 wide stove. There is a huge price difference between the 900 and 1200 range hoods. Has anyone had this dilemma and what did you do? Should I risk the 900 wide or bite the bullet and buy the 1200? Thanks in advance.

If it was me, I would go with the 1200 and not be disappointed. I have installed the 900 and I am very happy with it. It is living up to my expectations.

Is Schweigen the best brand rangehood to buy? I am also looking at getting a 900 undermount.
I have also heard that the brand 'Sirius' have really really good reviews.

Any help would be great. :)

I'm very pleased with my 1 year old Schweigen. It really is whisper quiet. Removal of smoke and vapours is effective. I don't cook with much oil so I cannot comment on how well it might work with oil fumes.
I don't know anything about the 'Sirius' brand.

What model did you purchase .......was it a single motor or a twin ?? I am wanting something that is strong enough to remove odours from Indian cooking and from what I have been reading the Scweigen seems to be very efficient .

I am pretty sure we went for the double motor. It extracts Indian and stir fry fumes well. As it is vented to the outside the cooking smells are always very nice outside the house!!

Schweigen UM1170-6S single motor.
Excellent for the Asian cooking I do. Small kitchen with 4 burner gas cooktop.
Still amazed at how quiet it is.

Hi. I am an authorized installer for schweigen. There are 3 motor options for the rangehoods. One 650 m2 motor, twin 650 m2 motors and a 1600 m2 motor. The models numbers end with S1, S2 and SP accordingly. They are not silent but are very quiet compared with a rangehood with an inbuilt motor. If someone says they are overly loud my experience is that the installation is not right. Thanks

Has anyone installed a Schweigen Undermount in 2013? all the reviews are old and I am curious to see if it is worth it. Does the noise get worse over time? appreciate any feedback if you have purchased one.

Our Scweigen is now 4 years old. It works well (good extraction iof cooking fumes) and noise had not altered. It is far superior to a smeg undermount we had previously in terms of both function and noise. As mentioned in my initial review it is certainly not silent, but still a good product. I would happily purchase again,
