Perfect Plug-n-Play Cloud Setup
My Seagate Central 4TB has been running non-stop for 5 years. Previously had a large noisy dedicated server doing the job of this small box. Easy to run straight out of the box and very quiet. All my media able to be effortlessly streamed via inbuilt DLNA server. Great product, highly recommended.

Don't trust your data to this device.
After a host of connection issues, 2 years after purchasing this product, it abruptly stopped working. I was unable to locate the drive on the network or directly connected to computer.
Contacting Seagate Tech support was an exercise in futility (try a new cable, if that doesn't work try to reset the device, if that doesn't work try a new cable etc.) and now they want to charge me to recover my data.
I would strongly recommend to people not to purchase this product.

Seagate Dud!
My Seavgate 2TB - 2 years old - died just after 2 years. Will not work on any power point or device. Lost all my files!! Will take to Tech to see if they can be retrieved but don't hold much hope!
Don't buy one. Research brands very well before buying!

Device Fails within Warranty Period
Purchased in 2015 to provide a central location for backing up photos. This device has failed in the last 2 months, and can no longer be recognised on the local network or by directly connecting the device to a PC. I would recommend looking at another brand and am now waiting on a replacement from Seagate.

Worked Ok for two years and died
I was using this hard drive for about two years as my network storage. It stopped working right after the warranty period expired. I opened the drive and found out the actual internal hard disk has died after working 2 years. Waste of money. Better to buy proper external or portable drive.

Waste of Money, Limited Options, Too much Seagate software needed.
Purchased this product to store and share movies around the House, from Smart TVs to Media Players etc.
While it does offer a solution, its by no means the best option out there.
A portable HDD connected to your Router works better.
Seagate product has too many proprietary limitations and clunkiness.

Easy setup and works a treat
I bought this to replace a faulty WD MyBook Live while being repaired - had to have something that I could transfer and stream videos.
My first thoughts out of the box were "Oh nice, it sits flat". Then try and find a spot for it - not so easy. I don't know who in the tech dept thought up this shape. I would much rather it be standing up so you can line drives up. At any rate, I just stack a network switch and a USB3 hub on top, so makes connections short and easy to access.
Setup was a breeze and everything was up and working within a m...Read more
atter of minutes. The transfer speed is not the quickest (around 30-40MB/s) but you can still transfer large files quickly. One thing that does affect transfer speed is the services. If they are all on (remote access, dlna, itunes etc), it will transfer >@10MB/s. To increase, temporarily turn these off and the speed goes up to 40MB/s. Then switch back on when you're done. The GUI is easy to navigate and change settings. Streaming to players is easy and painless (wish more where as easy) and don't seem to have any playback issues. The one thing I don't like is that the device takes it upon itself to create what seems to be registry keys on the drive for album covers. I'd much prefer if it HAS to do this that it does it in it's own directory for access, not the file directory. As I use this as central storage (as the name suggests), I want to be able to copy folders directly to other devices without the baggage.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Shared wireless hard drive
I got the Seagate Central for the following reasons:
I was sick of downloading to my computer and then transferring to the USB stick or the portable HDD to plug it into the TV to watch shows.
I wanted something simple and something that would work.
I wanted a fair chunk of storage that I could access from anywhere I could access a browser.
I wanted to get photos and videos off the iPhones easily.

Works fine until it doesn't
I bought the 2TB version over 1 year ago. It was easy to setup and use. This is where the positives end, the device is huge and takes up a lot of physical space. It suddenly stopped working and I could not connect with it wirelessly or directly. When I called up seagate they told me that I could get a new one but there is no free data recovery service. Everything I have on the drive is now lost. This is a common problem and there are plenty of people who had the same problem when they used up more than 80% storage. I should have done more research before buying it and clearly you are smarter than me. If you already have it do not store anything important on this drive.
