What a waste of money. Don't bother.
I tried this product as one of our Golden Retrievers gets very sleepy when given Comfortis which is what we had been using till now, and the sleepiness persists for over 12 hours.
Whilst the dogs were happy to take these chews without forcing it down their throats like most medication, that's the only good thing about this product.
Did not kill any fleas.
And yes, before you ask, I did use Capstar prior to kill adult fleas that might have been on them.
The dogs were still scratching and still had fleas even after repeated doses of Capstar a...Read more

Easy to Administer & It Works!
If your dog won't take the medication as an entire chew, they are easy to cut into little pieces and then just mix them in with their food. My 10 and a half year old Shih Tzu has taken Sentinel for years. It is effective. Search on the internet for the best price.

Has always worked for my dog
My 11 year old beagle springer spaniel cross has been on Sentinal for 5 years and in that time has never had a flea. Prior to that I tried Frontline which worked for a while then failed, and Advantix which didn't work at all. He doesn't like the taste of the chews but takes them no problem if I cut them in half and embed them in a piece of fetta cheese which he adores - to take them I make him sit or lie down or do anything else that he usually might get a treat for and he just gobbles them up! Also have had no intestinal worm problems and it is his sole heartworm protection as he is a total nightmare at the vet and needs sedation to have an injection. Love it!

So expensive and didn't even get what I paid for!
I just paid $53 for 3 months of worming and flea coverage for our beloved member of the family. Open the pack - just 2 tablets!! That is $26.50 per tablet. Just crazy! Only then looked at the production line - Puerto Rico to Switzerland to Australia. Says 3 tasty chew enclosed - not this time.

Sentinel for Dogs
I used Sentinel for dogs for the recommended 12 month period to break the flea cycle and worked a charm. I have 2 dogs; one long hair and one short hair (plus a cat) and it worked on them both. I live in the country where the fleas are unavoidable especially in the summer months and even so, my dogs were still protected. I would agree with others that it can be expensive but I think it's worth it for your pets and you not to suffer. I have been search for comparison prices online, it's surprising how many companies discount these products.
It did what it said - stopped fleas!

Fussy Dog - will not 'chew'
I have to wrestle my maltese shitzu every month ... she will not 'chew'. I have to cut in 4 and force it down her throat. She keeps spitting the pieces out and clamps her jaw ... what a nightmare. One tablet was much easier. Seems to work although as pointed out several times by others it doesn't stop the fleas.
I have only ever used this product and my dog is 11
Expensive; even harder to administer now that it is in a bigger chew; and not tasty according to my dog.

Never had a flea or intestinal worm.
My dog has been on Sentinel all his life. The product works but it is expensive. The only drawback is that the dog will not eat it. I have tried mixing it with mince, but without success. Have worked out the only way is to shave the tablet very thinly and mix it with ice-cream. Probably the cold masks the taste.
It is reliable and works.
Bad taste ( Or so the dog thinks )

Absolute rubbish doesnt last 2 weeks
Ive had my dog on comfortis for 6 months have not seen a flea in all this time, changed to Sentinel on 12/3/2014 and by the 26/3/2014 my dog has bad fleas? i would not recommend this product to anyone and will change back to comfortis, total waste of $120 now off to spend more money changing back over, not happy at all. Im guessing the positive reviews are written by people who work for the company.
Expensive, doesnt last 2 weeks cant believe they say it will work for a month, dont buy this product

just give me a tablet
They wont eat the chew - both dogs, and so I have to chop it and try and hide it in chicken, they try to spit it out - such a hassle - Frankly I would rather put a tablet down their throat. I have two jack russell terriers who are generally good eaters. It is NOT tasty
need the drugs
they wont eat it

I tried sentinel spectrum and my dog has not had a flea on it since
My staffy had a problem with fleas so I tried sentinel spectrum and my dog has not had a flea on it since. Also this product is for heart worm and intestinal worms. I have found this product to be great. I would fully recommend this product
the price is good because this product lasts along time

The most important thing to remember if using Sentinel Spectrum
I think it needs to be accepted that Sentinel is not really a treatment for killing fleas already on the dog. Rather it is for stopping the breeding cycle of the fleas. If a dog is infested then you will need to use something else along with the Sentinel (like Capstar) to actually kill the fleas. I have used it for many years on my collies and shelties as safety is of prime importance in the medication sensitivity of these breeds.
Safety aspect for medication sensitive breeds.
Accepting it does not kill fleas already on the dog.

Re-review of Earlier Review
I originally rated this product with one star as I was so annoyed that Novartis had changed from tablet form to a chewable chew which my dogs absolutely hated (and still do).
I finally found a way that my dogs will eat it - I slice it into four slices (like a loaf of bread) and wrap each piece inside a piece of cheese - crazy but it works!!!!!
The reason that I persevered is because my dogs had a major flea problem at the time I wrote the last review (2010) and I tried every spot treatment on the market but none of them worked, nor did th...Read more
e Capstar tablets. Someone suggested I persevered with the Sentinel as she found it excellent for fleas - she also suggested the wrapping in cheese method. From the first dose the fleas disappeared and I have never had another problem. The added bonus is that it also treats worms (including heart worm, although I still get the dogs a yearly injection, in case I ever forget the monthly dose or am late giving it). My vet recently suggested that this is an expensive way of treating fleas and worms and instead suggested I should try Comfortis and a separate three monthly all-wormer, as more economical (I guess especially as I pay for a yearly heart worm injection). Whilst most reviews about Comfortis are very good, there have been some dogs who have had adverse reactions and I would rather not take the risk so will stick with the Sentinel, as I know it works without making my dogs sick. I would rate it with 5 stars if it was in tablet form and I didn't have to go to so much trouble to get my dogs to eat it. The only product I have used which works on fleas. Added bonus is that it treats all worms (including heart worm). Expensive. My dogs hate the "tasty" chews - I have to slice it up and wrap it in cheese to get them to eat it.5 comments
I chop mine up into little pieces and mix it into a little bit of mince.
Watch out with the Comfortis, my dog had a reaction and almost died - $3,500 worth of vet bills later too :(

Sentinel worming tablets
I Purchased this product as a prevention to heart worm and intestinal worms. It comes in a chewable form and I was really surprised at how easily my dog ate it and was looking for more when he had finished! Much easier to administer than those in tablet form. It was a no fuss way to treat.
My dog loved eating it.

Didnt work
I have a small indoors dog. I asked the pet store specifically for a flea treatment and they gave me Sentinel. My dog didn't like the chew, I had to crumble it onto a plate, and he got more fleas than ever over the next couple of days and became very distressed as he isn't used to them. Will never buy again.
Expensive. Didnt work.

5 Dogs acreage with feral foxes and rabbits which enter the yard (I have used them all).
Love this product!! I have 5 dogs and used this product for 2 years including during the winter.
We live on small acreage with feral foxes and rabbits which are plagued with fleas and tapeworm. I also take my dogs to suburbia and sporting events where the dogs bring home adult fleas.
This product WILL kill adult fleas. I have even missed treatments during January heavy flea times and NO FLEAS for 8 WEEKS!!
If you say this product is expensive I have 5 dogs!! I buy the size up & I cut the chewys in half & the one left over I wrap in foil & save for the following month.
If you have a single small dog you can full protect you dog for 12 months for under $80 doing it my way.

Great product
I agree it's a great product.
My dog has been on them for 2.5 years with no problems until recently spending time in an infested yard, people don't realise that it does not kill adult fleas (instead prevents larvae and eggs), so if a yard or house is infested it also needs to be treated with an insecticide.
All in one treatment, easy to give dog with no hassles (just hide it in it's wet food)
Doesnt kill adult fleas

Good
I find it is worth the extra expense because of the ease of using the product. my dogs have had it for 7 years now, and not had a flea ourbreak or anything. I feel I am buying a quality product for my dogs.
Love this product. does intestinal worms, fleas and heartworm all at once, with 1 tablet per month with a meal.I always used to forget when I did what, so this is easy - first of the month is sentinel time!my fussy dog loves the new chews so makes it easier to take ( no more hiding it in her food, only to find it spat out!)
it is expensive, how-ever you can find it cheaper on the net. I find www.pricelsspets.com.au one of the cheapest and most reliable.

What a shame they changed the formula
This has always been a great product for my dog, a very long-haired German Shepherd. I always treat the cat with Frontline or Advantage at the same time and we haven't had fleas since, for 4-5 years now. The trouble is this used to be a palatable chew for my dog but since the formula changed a couple of years ago she's refused to take it and now clamps her very strong jaw shut so I can't even force it down her throat any more. Looking for a new product.......
It works very well
My dog won't take it

great product Is it possible to halve the dosage of a large dog chew and give them to my two dogs that are half the weight?
My vet said it was alright to cut in halve and give to two dogs

Too expensive - Not worth the Money
I have had my three German Shepherd Dogs, two of them are 5years old and the little one is 1 year old right from the beginning on Sentinel. But that is only because of the Heart worm Protection - I kind of hope it helps to protect against Heart worms. My girls take the chews, but my boy hates them - as easy as it is to force him to take a tablet - try to force a Dog to take a chew!!! In my point of view this is an overpriced and useless product, because I still need Frontline for all three of them to protect them from fleas and ticks. The Last ...Read more
Summer was the worst. So what's the point of spending AU$ 570 a year for Sentinel and have to spend another AU$ 450 for protections against Fleas??? At the moment I am looking into alternatives. them as well as Sentinel does not say it fully covers protection for them only helps with...Tick collars are only $8-9 at Vetshed as well so really not too bad an expense to keep our dogs free of worms, fleas and ticks ..not one of any of these since using this product. We haven't had any fleas for many years definitely does get rid of fleas, doesn't kill the adult flea makes them infertile so they can't breed.

Doesn't work at all
Been using Sentinel for 3 months and, despite using it exactly as per the instructions, each month we find fleas on her. Once it was a couple of weeks after the tablet, once it was a few days - it doesn't seem to do anything, as far as I can see. I'm extremely disappointed, as it's an expensive product and was recommended to me by a vet nurse - and every month we have the same problem and I have to wash everything etc to try to eliminate the fleas.
Doesn't work, hard to administer to dog

My 14lbs Schnoodle has been on Sentinal for the past 7 years. I usually put the pill in peanut butter and she eats it happily. This past month when she saw me getting it prepared she ran and hid, once I found her (in her usual hiding spot) she did take it reluctantly. That night she was in and out of the house all night with and upset stomach. I’m beginning to wonder if this happens every time I giver her this medicine and I’m just now catching on (thanks to her hiding). She’s usually very healthy, but on occasion has these stomach issues at night. Anyone else notice this? Thanks!
