I like my new 1306 singer machine.

This machine is new and have not used it yet but from my experience from my old singer I saw blouses in different sizes and designs for income and I am so glad to have the new one

Not great for beginners, or anyone for that matter.

published

Needle kept getting jammed, snapped two needles couldn't do anything with it. Didn't even make it through to the finish of one hem line. Completely stuck, can't even lift the needle manually.

lost its " singing" voice.

being new to all sewing,I did not want to spend $$ on a machine to learn. bought this and stored for a year while finding my feet with hand sewing. now machine is out and the thread does one run, then breaks at the needle. been on You Tube and watched and followed tutorial but still to no avail. I have also found that when getting to end,the thread does not come out easily to cut off.seems to get stuck inside where the bobbin is. and at times the thread comes out coated in some dark stain.I am thinking that some people should not attempt to learn certain things.I had more success and less stress learning to sew by hand.and I got more done. I am so down hearted.

Purchased in at Spotlight retail store for $99.

Broken 15 needles so far!

published

I bought a Singer Start from Spotlight in Adelaide. The amount of needles I went through! I was forever adjusting thinking it must have been my fault, then I reviewed the machine and lo and behold! same problem as everyone else....

Consumer rights

published

Anyone getting a dodgy product can indeed return it to THE PLACE OF PURCHASE, don't be put off by staff!! Consumer law says you can if it does not work or perform as it ought etc. I had to fight Spotlight years ago over 2 rubbish Brother sewing machines my girls bought, they fought tooth and nail until I mentioned Consumer affairs, then they couldn't process the refunds fast enough!! Know your rights, and don't be afraid to (politely) fight if need be.

Not great, kept breaking.

published

I was given this sewing machine, and it was good in the beginning. It was basic, sewed okay and did what it had to do. However, after a while of use, the inside of it completely broke and fell apart, and the thread kept bunching up inside, meaning I constantly had to readjust it to stop it from doing that. The needle was close to snapping many times as well as being bent easily. Overall, not the best in the world, I do not recommend it.

You get what you pay for

published

I was gifted one of these machines a few weeks ago. I set up everything as per instructional DVD. I had the machine for a week and still wasn't able to sew a pillow case, with light fabric. The top needle kept unthreading every two centimetres and material bunching up and snapped a needle due to the vibration. It doesn't feel sturdy and reliable so i had to take it back to spotlight a week after getting it for them to see what the deal was. I haven't used it again yet. But i think if i could go back i would have spent the extra $100 to buy a forever machine because i dont think this is it.

Great basic sewing machine

published

Had a Globe for about 40 years, with a front loading bobbin. Bought a Toyota with a top loading bobbin which is hard to clean out if thread gets jammed in it and after 3 years tension needs fixing at a cost of $180! I like this Singer because it has a front loading bobbin, easy to turn needle screw, a power on off switch, runs quietly and has a carry handle.

Questions & Answers

Hey there! I have been learning to sew on this Singer Start for the past few months, and am really enjoying it. I think this is a good machine for anyone learning to sew. Today, I've been having issues with my zigzag stitch- it's mostly sewing in a straight line, and when I do manage to get it to zigzag, it skips lots of stitches. Is there anything you can recommend to fix this? I have cleaned my machine and put in a fresh needle. I'm keen to hear any tips you might have! Thank you.

Does the singer start have a bobbin case ?
My friend pulled one in perfect condition from a road side dumpster. But the only thing I could notice that there were bobbin spools but no case.
