I haven't had that problem. Just increase the level of power higher. There are no filters, you just remove the stainless steel grills and wash them.

I've had a unit for several years and no problem with smoke extraction.
If the BBQ are is in an open, then wind flow may reduce the smoke extraction.
The height that the unit has been installed at and the position over the BBQ may cause an issue.

Hi Zak,
If the unit and ducting have been installed correctly, it should be able to extract smoke properly. Just make sure that you turn on the rangehood before starting to cook in order to get the airflow started, and to turn up the speed when you have a lot of food cooking at once. When the baffle filters get dirty they can be removed and washed in a dishwasher.
