We have an undermount 52cm sirius rang hood but can't seem to be able to remove the filter without scratching the front. Its less than 12 months old. Suggestions??? It looks like there isn't enough room for it to slide out...

SL906-L 520

I have been happy with my Sirius SL906-L520 rangehood and have had it for 3years and 5 months.
A couple of days ago it started making a terrible noise, I rang Sirius service centre they said it was out of warranty as this is 3 years. I have had a service call and they said I need a new motor! I am very upset about this as I hardly use it and was hoping with the amount of money I paid for it, that it would last me years. It is pretty poor to have the motor go in this unit as I have hardly used it, it was sold to me saying what a high quality and strong unit it was.
Is there any way it could be covered by warranty?

Hi,
Was the rangehood installed with Sirius Ducting? Or did the installer use the ducting already in the ceiling, or a different duct brand?

I did buy the Sirius ducting but the installer could not use it as it would not bend enough to be vented out to our side wall in the kitchen. Sirius ducting looked like it could only used if venting straight up to the roof which did not suit our kitchen design. I was able to return the ducting and get a refund.

Hi,
Could you please send through some photos of your ducting set up? We just want to get an idea of the installation so we can see if that had anything to do with the motor issue.

We have a flat roof home and are currently looking at the Sirius SL906-L rangehood. Wondering however if this unit if compatible with a flat roof house with no roof cavity, and whether or not this unit can be ducted outside somehow still?

Hi...yes it has 2 options of being ducted up or straight out to an outside wall. Ours is ducted straight out.

Penny, does your rangehood which is dicted straight out sound noisy? All reviews said this was silent but ours isn't and ducts straight out.

Hi, we are about to have our kitchen cupboards made and just wondering what size we need. We have 6 gas burner 90cm. The duct will be about 1metre. Which size do you recommend? Thanks Karen

Hi Karen, for a 90cm cooktop, you would definitely go with the SL906 L 850. You can view all the specs on the website siriusbrand.com.au

I'll answer this for posterity, even though it's too late for the original poster...

SL906 L 850: With some stuffing around with a router, you can fit this unit into an 800mm wide cabinet, with 4mm to spare each side. You will need to router out a 14mm recess into the sides of each adjacent cupboard. In other words, you need 828mm, noting that the distance between inside walls of the adjacent cabinets (with 18mm melamine carcasses) is 836mm. However you will need to specify a custom position for your door hinges as the bottom hinges need to be about 300mm above the bottom of the door. Only attempt this if you are very handy. Otherwise use a 1000mm wide cupboard.

I find my new Sirius SL906-L520 very noisy. Only use it on lowest speed because of this.
Otherwise very good product.
How can my unit be noisy when some have said their's is almost silent?

We have exactly the same issue as many others have had - buttons one and two not working on SL906 EM-L520 with SEM2 that was recently installed and had the power turned on for the first time today. I am in Auckland. What is the solution please? The installer referred us to the retailer but I would like to hear the solution from you.

Dear Davea this is an installation issue, the plugs have not been connected properly, you need to remove the dummy plug on the 2c pin connector on the rangehood. This information can be gained from our service department. Email our team at [email protected], thank you.

Question to all reviewers of the SL906L520 model. Were these installed with an off board motor (ie motor in the roof space) or an onboard motor within the canopy. What are the noise levels like at min and max speed?
Many thanks.

Hey Nick, our unit has a sem 1 motor positioned up in the roof space, the motor is about 5 meters away from the hood so the unit is virtually silent and all we can hear is the air movement from our hood. It's awesome!

Hi Pantsman
Many thanks for your feedback. Would you be able to tell me where you bought it and what was the cost please? Also, what is the type and size of your cooktop.
Cheers

For some reason the rangehood switches off after five minutes on all the speeds except for the lowest speed? I can't find an instruction manual in case it might be something to do with the timer function?

Hi there, we are in the middle of a kitchen renovation. Have purchased the SL906 EM L520. It has just been installed today. Buttons No.1 and 2 do not appear to work. Can hear a click on pressing those buttons. Speeds 3 and 4 work but are very loud. This is ducted outdoors with an SEM2 motor. I see another person (Kay - Oct 25, 2015) had EXACTLY the same issue... Please advise how we can rectify this - it does not appear to be an installation issue - we've got over everything!

I have bought a 75cm cooktop, want to buy sirius SL906L520 OR SL906L850. The salesman told me SL906L520 can be used for a 75cm cooktop and it has stronger strength of exhausting than 850. My concern is 520 is not wide enough to cover all hobs of the cook-top. Please tell me which one is the best suit for a 75cm cooktop? Thanks!

Hi thanks for your question the larger the rangehood the better, your feeling was right, you would like to have a 850mm rangehood in this case. See our range online for further information, the FAQ page will also help you if you have further concerns, http://siriusbrand.com/, http://siriusbrand.com/faq/, each rangehood has different extraction the specification sheets will tell you the extraction rate. The two models you have mentioned have the same extraction but if you have a larger surface area the best option is a larger rangehood. Thank you Sirius Brand.

I am thinking of replacing an existing retractable rangehood with the SL906 EM-L 520. I read in the manual that the mid-point of the rangehood should ideally be directly over the middle of the cooktop. My existing overhead cupboard where the Sirius rangehood would sit is 300mm deep, and my bench top is 675mm deep with the mid-point of the existing gas cooktop being 325mm from the rear of the bench top, such that only the rear 220mm of the gas cooktop is under the rangehood and the remaining 280mm of the cooktop being beyond the front edge of the rangehood. Will this be a problem with extraction or should I look at another retractable to provide that coverage over?

I want to buy an Ariston gas cooktop which measures 50cm x 65cm comprising 4 burners in a diamond shape. Is the SL 906-L520 suitable to ensure 100% of steam is taken away or do I have to go larger?

1 answer
Sirius
Anthony F.Sirius

Hi Steve thank you for your question, having a smaller rangehood over the cooktop is no problem at all, it is ideal to have a larger one as it extracts more air however with the power of this rangehood you wont have any issues at all. Kind regards, Sirius Team.
