How about adult Invisalign?
Mandar N.asked
Hello, Does this cover work on top of the private health insurance with dental extras? Thanks.
2 answers
Yes. You can’t swipe the Smile card at clinic but a cheaper rate applies. You pay it first and claim it through online of your health fund.
Monica H.smile.com.au
Hi Mandar,
You can certainly use your smile.com.au cover in conjunction with private health insurance to benefit twice, stretch out your dental extras, and even reduce your gap!
It's as easy as showing your smile.com.au card at your appointment with an approved dentist to reduce your treatment fees on the spot. You can then swipe your private health insurance card through HICAPS to claim your rebate to benefit twice over! That's great news!
If you visit a smile.com.au dentist who is also your private health fund's preferred provider dentist, in many cases, you will still benefit more by using smile.com.au and then claiming your rebate. Simply present both cards at the practice and ask to be charged the lower of the two options, then swipe your health fund card through HICAPS.

How do I get a quote for dental work? I need 2 teeth removed and 2 bridges to fill 3 missing teeth on each bridge. Can I get time payment plan and still receive discount?
1 answer
I had put off going to the dentist as I knew I had a lot of work to be done. Finally faced up to it and went and discussed options with my dentist who gave me a quote for what we agreed on. I am paying as I go. So far I have had 2 extractions, my 6 front teeth veneered and about to get a partial denture. Am in a private health fund but the Smile discount is on the dentist bill and doesn't affect the health fund rebate. Have more than recouped my membership with Smile.

I just tried to post a comment on Smile's facebook page but Smile monitor all their posts so I gather any negativity will not be posted. I am wondering about the reviews on here, most of them don't look genuine to me and I wonder if they can be trusted?
5 answers
I've never been to the smile Facebook page as I haven't had any need to. I literally signed up because I had a tooth extraction on the same day. Between Smile and my private health insurance I was out of pocket very little. I would say my cost of signing up to Smile is already paid back. I can assure you my post is genuine. I enjoy supporting products that deserve the review. If I was unhappy I would most certainly post to their Facebook page.
Monica H.smile.com.au
Thank you Tanya for responding to Kim on behalf of smile.com.au - that's very much appreciated. You're amazing Tanya! Kim, we haven't been particularly active on Facebook but we're certainly thankful for your thoughts. Thank you for taking the time to drop us a note; you're very kind to do so. Have a wonderful day and weekend Kim!
No they are not genuine Kim, Load of crap. Money down the drain. I for one will never use them again.. No refund back on your card just a load of forms to fill out. Waste of time and effort..

Tried that, got screwed over. First dentist I called just said flat no, second dentist I called the reception lady said that would be no worries and just come in, but when I did they charged me full price. I called smiles to try and get there fees, but because I already got the work done it was to late

Where can i get 40% off within Melbourne? Thanks!
2 answers
Monica H.smile.com.au
Hi Syd! Thank you for your question. There are roughly 1,000 unique dental services/items in dentistry. As a member of smile.com.au, you will receive reductions on all of these dental services/items at any smile.com.au approved dentist however it will depend on which dental services/items you require. Each dental service/item attracts a different reduction. Its important to know that the minimum reduction for any dental service/item is 15% off. So, let's say you require a combination of 5 dental services/items...each of these dental services/items will attract a different reduction varying from 15% to 40%. I hope this information assists your understanding Syd. Please feel free to call 1300 238 648 for additional assistance especially if you know exactly which dental services/items you require.
We're not in Melbourne, but saved the 40% on a root canal. As mentioned above, different procedures attract different discounts. But the big discount definitely exists for some services

Hi guys I recently joined smile mainly because I saw advertised that you can save a lot having private health and smile. After booking in the dentist who is registered for Medibank as well as Smile I asked what the cost would be . For a Medibank member it's $250 for an examination, scale and lean etc. it's a bit cheaper coz it's a members first. Then I said what about if I have a Smile card. They said that I would have to pay $290 then minus 20% off the full
Price making it around the same cost. In addition Medibank will pay 70% of my treatment. and I save nothing using Smile. Is there a better way for me to save on top of the Medibank claim? If not then I paid this membership for nothing. Coz the dentist told me Smile only discounts from the full
Price. How can I benefit from Smile when I already have good dental cover through Medibank? CanSmile please offer me a refund??
4 answers
I was in the same position, I was with HCF last year and went to a 'smile' dentist and the gap was $78, I've changed funds to Medibank and this year at a Medibank dentis who wasn't 'smile' the gap was $23.00
I suppose if you don't have extra cover or not a high enough level of extra cover then 'smile' might be worth it, but personally I think it's a waste of money, and you can't get a refund from Smile either! Also beware they automatically renew, so you need to call them and ask for this to be cancelled or you'll just automatically be paying for nothing every renewal.
That's just not right. Here's what Smile claim on their website regarding Medibank Private members
"As a member of both AHM and Smile, you will save up to 40% off your dental fees with a guaranteed minimum saving of 15% off all dental treatments performed by any Smile approved dentist throughout Australia. In addition, you will receive your applicable rebate at the conclusion of your appointment. This way you will reduce or even eliminate your out-of-pocket expenses. "
Imagine how many customers they have got with claims like this only for them to find out exactly what you did.
I notice that Smile did not respond to your comment.
Ask them for a refund and if they do not give it to you then make a complaint to consumer affairs and include the quote above from their website.
Yeah it's pretty poor considering how many times they have responded to other enquiries hey
Sandyasked
Hi, my daughter needs all 4 wisdom teeth removed. She will be having this done as a day procedure in hospital under general anaesthetic. There is the dentist fee, theatre fee and anaethetist fee. if we had family cover with Smile, how much would we expect to get discounted and on which costs? Also, are basic checkups and fillings discounted? Thanks, Sandy.
1 answer
Monica H.smile.com.au
Hi Sandy! Thank you for your question. We hope you're very well. As member of smile.com.au, your daughter's dental (dentist) fees will be reduced. The theatre fee and anaesthetist fees are medical fees. Medical fees don't fall within the smile.com.au plan. If you have family cover with smile.com.au, ALL your dental treatment performed by our approved dentists will be reduced. This includes exams, x-rays, wisdom teeth extractions, check-ups, fillings etc. The reductions will vary on every treatment and range between 15% to 40%. There's also no waiting periods, no benefit limits, and no treatment exclusions. Suffice to say, your family will benefit significantly. The smile.com.au family plan for 1 year is just $97. If you get the 2 year plan, your family will also receive 40% off the 2nd year. I hope this information is helpful. Have a wonderful weekend Sandy!
jackasked
do all the smile participating dental clinics charge the same fees?
3 answers
No it depends on the clinic you choose and the onsite services they provide. Check the list of eligible dentists in your area, then go and see 2 or 3 of them and make a comparison they will give you a quote for the work you want done.
I recently had to have 4 extractions and fittings for plates and I am so happy I had Smile to help offset the costs otherwise I couldn't have afforded the work done
Well worth the premium
Monica H.smile.com.au
Hi Jack! Thank you for the question. Lynn is correct. All dentists can charge what they want. If they're a dentist within the Smile network, they agree to reduce their fees for members of Smile. This means that all members are saving up to 40% off their treatment fees with a guaranteed minimum reduction of 15% off all treatment. Smile also outlines maximum fees that dentists within the Smile network can charge for the most common dental services (e.g. exams, cleans, fillings, extractions, root canal treatment, crowns, veneers, dentures etc).
Additionally, Smile monitors all dentists within the Smile network to ensure that members are receiving quality dental care from 'registered' dentists who are not the subject of any conditions, reprimands or undertakings by the regulatory body. It may be important to share with you that its Smile's vision to 'make quality dental care more affordable and accessible for the people of Australia'. We hope this response is helpful Jack.
It is a very good suggestion to go and see three or four dentists in your area for a quote. Actually you can just phone them up and tell them you are comparing prices. As the rep from Smile admits, the dentist can charge what they want and they can reduce your fee if they want and this is without the need to join Smile with their own fees.
