After 2 years of use, the camera fails to recognise battery
It was good while it lasted (only 2 years), images are sharp 28-100cm so its good for landscapes and portraits...it has a macro option.. Carl Zeiss lens with great F stops offers you ability to photograph in low light situations without using flash (the flash is small and can get stuck, as it is very fragile part of this camera, so beware when using it and when retracting it.. this camera has a lens with great DOF that you can get from F1.8...it's small and portable, panoramic stitching is a neat effect on this camera...when video is concerned...Read more
there are focus issues when trying to have camera focus on nearest object, so you can get everything else in focus from time to time except what you want. You can't use RAW image file for PS and Lightroom, as the RAW format of Sony is not compatible with Adobe, so if you are buying this camera for it's raw capabilities ask yourself what software are you going to use to edit them... so better use jpg and save space on your card and then you get (28 -390 zoom in optical) But in saying that $700 later when problems occurred after only 2 years of use, I had to buy new batteries ($70 each), same error message started popping : "Battery exhausted!" Even new ones, after all night charging? I will tell you how sony customer care centre will deal with this problem, as i have contacted them for repair.Similar opinion? Wonderful point and shoot
We have had this camera for a year so there is probably a new model out now. This has been such a wonderful camera. It's pocket size but takes the most amazing pictures. It also does a great job with the video. It's so simple to operate just point and shoot and you will get some great photos, even when your travelling along in a bus. For the size of the camera it really has quite a good zoom feature and you do have some scene selections as well, the gourmet feature is excellent, can't get the fireworks to work so well though. My favourite is th...Read more
e panoramic selection, you just have to love a panoramic picture. I have managed to use the wi-fi feature as well, it comes in very handy when you want to upload your photos to some where else. If you need help with doing this just go to good old youtube and put in the camera model and help is at hand. Would totally recommend this camera.

Outstanding photos for beginners and experts
I want great image quality. I researched cameras for a year, taking lots of pictures with many different cameras priced between $300 and $2500. I'd ask the salesperson to allow me to try out some cameras, load my own SD card, set the camera to automatic and take it out into the street and start shooting. Then I'd go home, load the card onto my PC and compare images taken. Very soon I saw that the Sony RX100 was the one that consistently gave high image quality. But I didn't want a Sony, I was looking to get a more established brand. So I kept t...Read more
esting. Then Sony released the RX100 Mark2. The picture quality got even better. Others released new models too but none came close to the astounding quality of the Sony. Testing products is one thing, owning it is quite another. So I didn't want to write a review until I used my own camera on a trip. Well, I've just returned from visiting Kakadu NP and I took over 2,000 photos in all kinds of light. From fast moving crocodiles and birds to rock paintings that have not moved in thousands of years. Result: Outstanding photos! I've never had a camera that produces such images quality. I've now sold my dSLR and retired some other cameras. Why? Because this one takes great photos on auto+ for point&shoot situations or I can work it as a semi-auto or full manual camera. And it shoots great full HD movies too. Any problems? There are some things to know: The Control Ring around the lens barrel was very stiff when I got the camera. Checking the internet told me that isn't unusual. The fix is to fully rotate the Ring some 100 times. That eases it up and I've had no further issues with it. There are two more items to note. Firstly, the camera has so many options, you'd never figure them out all by yourself. On the internet I found a book by Gary Friedman called The Complete Guide to Sony RX100 M2. It answered all my questions about customising the camera and it ought to be included by Sony for free. It is a downloadable eBook. My final issue was with the ergonomics of holding the camera as it is quite small and slippery. There are accessory grips by Sony and others but I've got large hands and those grips don't really help me. Instead I got a wrist strap from a Leica X2 which is an inch wide. It marries the Sony perfectly to my hand allowing me to confidently hold the camera with one hand whilst turning the Control Ring with the other hand. I'd say all up I've taken some 5,000 photos now and I am still impressed with the camera. That's why I rate it 5 stars. Excellent image quality expensiveSimilar opinion? Near DSLR quality at fraction of a size
I have been a long time user of Nikon DSLR's and whilst I enjoyed the speed and picture quality the DSLR produces, I needed a pocket size camera to temporary replace the big boy on my up and coming trip - it's a difficult decision I might add as I have owned Canon pocket cameras in the past and was not overly impressed with the photos it produced.
Anyhow, I was pretty much shortlisted to Canon G16, Nikon AW-1, Sony Nex-5T and Sony RX100 II; To me, Sony RX100 II came out the winner due to its size and the photo quality it produces (thanks to ...Read more
the 1" sensor). Sure the RX100 II doesn't have the interchangeable lenses like AW-1 and Nex but it wins on form factor. Not only that, there are enough manual adjustments (on the RX100) I can fiddle around with. On top of all, auto focus is fast and it takes beautiful photos comparable to the DSLR. RX100 II is an awesome pocket size camera and I highly recommend it to anyone who needed a back up or use it as their primary shooter. Picture quality, small form factor, flexible flash, manual settings, fast auto focus, retro look, depth of field You might want to consider purchasing the AGR-1 grip ($19) to improve handlingSimilar opinion?
