False advertisement for power rating. No support for AVR in Australia.
Firstly. They put the 165w X7 power rating on the box and also a huge shiny sticker on front panel of the unit. however this is really 165w altogether. this AVR only has 165w power in total and it's for 6ohm. it will be reduced to around 120w on 8ohm which most speakers are. Do the math when shared with 7 channels each speaker gets less than 20w which is underpowered for most of the decent speakers.
The zone 2 RCAs does not support hdmi or s/pidf. It is written in the manual and I tested it.

setting up the zone 2 but guess what. After some transfers at the end the guy didn't even know what an AV receiver is. He keeps asking what's wrong with my TV obviously have no clue what my product does. He then asked me for full details so someone who knows the product can answer me - by email only. Some time later I got an email answering my enquiry, but it was some generic information that can be found in the manual. I asked one more time with specific yes or no question. Never heard from them anymore. I now have to sell the unit for half of the price as a second hand. bought a yamaha now that's a proper AV receiver!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great Sound but inter-connectivity lets it down
Produces great sound.
But slotting it into an all Sony setup (4k Sony TV and 4k Sony Blu-ray Player) produced worse results than when I connected the Blu-ray directly to the TV ; the colours are all wrong and upscaling a bluray or dvd makes colours too bright no matter the setting. I also run a media computer through this and it took me ages to get the colour setting to something usable (again compared to plugging it directly into TV
And to get sound out of the TV to come out of the receiver, I have to set the receiver to TV and the TV to TV manually. I would have thought that a Sony to Sony setup would work better.

Audio Receiver only lasted 4 years - buyer beware
The main board on the Sony STR Receiver failed. After Sony customer service booked it in for assessment at their service centre, which initially I was delighted with, when it came to pick up, I found out I had to pay $100 for an assessment and then Sony refused to pay to fix the $500 to fix it. Apparently 4 years is too old to last for a Sony audio product. Waste of time!
Purchased in November 2021 at JB Hi-Fi for A$700.00.

Not as advertised
I needed a new receiver and the Sony appeared to have good reviews elsewhere, so I purchased one.
Indeed, the sound quality is excellent, however, the functionality is poor.
1. the remote has clumsy and slow, on screen (you need a TV), control,
2. Although promoted as being 7.2 or 5.1 + Zone 2, this is not the case. Any attempt to play the source into another Zone failed on all digital sources. The receiver can be configured to connect either stereo speakers or analogue RCA out, to a Zone 2. But there is no DAC built-in, so only analogue sou...Read more
