Can you pump directly into breastmilk bags or goes it need to go into supplied bottles first?

Hi Laura,

Great question! We don't have the ability to pump directly into our milk storage bags. Most Mums simply pump into the bottles and then divide into storage bags separately. That makes it easier to know exactly how much each bag has in it too.

I have heard that the CTN Tommee Tippee Express and Go bags will connect if you get the adaptor set that that brand make too, but I have not tested this personally.I think you need to be using the duckbill valves for them to fit correctly into the pouch.

If you do try it out, it would super if you could let us know if it does work!

Hi there, I've been having great success pumping directly into the Tommee Tippee express & go bags with the middle sized adaptor. Unfortunately you have to purchase a pack of 3 different sized adaptors, or if double pumping, 2 packs. But I haven't needed to change valves at all. I just have to make sure the valve points towards the flange (white part of the valve) to fit it on and it's been fine... good luck : )

I'm flying for 9 hours straight and will need to express on the flight. Will the battery last that long and is the battery a lithium battery?

Also - is this pump compatible with the medela bottles?

Customer Service T.Spectra

Hi Div,

Thanks for your questions! Your Spectra 9+ has around 2 hours of pumping time on the battery. So if you express for 30 minutes, you would have plenty of battery for 4 pumping sessions in flight. The battery is a Lithium Ion battery.

The shield sets that come with the 9+ fit a wide neck bottle, so they will not go directly onto the Medela bottles. However, you can get an adaptor to allow you to use the narrower necked bottles here:

Hope you have a lovely trip.

Heya Joey,

Our 9+ pump comes with wide neck bottles. We know that Mam, Cherub Baby, and the older style Avent bottles also fit straight onto our flanges. If you have other narrower neck bottles, you can also grab a wide to narrow neck adaptor from our site, and that will allow you to pump into smaller necked bottles such as the Medela or Pigeon brands.

Hi gud am, i just want to ask -> is spectra 9+ recommended for exclusively pumping mama? Thank youü

Officially-No it's not recommended, Spectra recommend a hospital grade pump such as the s1, S2 or the dew 350.
However.... I have been using S9 for exclusively pumping for 6 months now and I've found it great. No problems keeping my supply up.

Spectra

Hi Katz,

Thanks for your question! Riss is right - we would always recommend a hospital grade pump for Mummas exclusively expressing, as they are designed for heavy use :-)
However, some Mums do use the 9+ and have no problems. Its entirely up to you. If you need more help deciding, feel free to contact our Customer Service team, or check out these links: http://spectra-baby.com.au/choosing-a-breast-pump-first-step/

help! which spectra pump to buy?
M1, 9+ or S2?
Havent had baby yet but def getting one (a pump that is.. oh and a baby) Ideally I will be using the pump 1x a day just so my husband can bond with a night feed...and will be using double so I will be able to store breast milk for occassions etc. the one thing Im not sure about with the S2 is that it isn't portable. I don't intend on returning to work until after 12 months so that is not an issue, but I feel like there is going to be times where I might want to pump and cant reach a power outlet.
The other thing is - which is quieter?
Can anyone give me any advice to help me make my decision?

Thank you!

Hey Donna,

Great questions! It can be a bit confusing when trying to work out which pump to buy :-)

If you have a premmie, are pumping for medical reasons, exclusively expressing or have low supply, we recommend a hospital grade pump such as the S1, S2 or the Dew350. Of course, not having had your baby yet, you wont know quite what your situation might be...

All can be used as single or double pumps. The S2 can be used in a car with a 12v power adapter you can get from electronic shops or auto shops.

If you are returning to work, or want someone else to be able to give your baby a bottle of breast milk occasionally, (which sounds like your case at the moment) a personal use pump would be perfect. The 9+ has a display with a timer, and the M1 has the buttons on top for adjusting the suction settings. Both can be used as single or double pumps.

Here is a video that compares the 2 :)
https://spectra-baby.com.au/product-comparison-spectra-9-vs-spectra-m1-portable-electric-breast-pumps/

In terms of noise levels, all our pumps are fairly quiet - most Mums find the S9+ one of the most quiet.

Hi, it certainly hasn't decreased my supply. I've been using it non stop since the end of April and it has maintained excellent supply for me (exclusively pumping, not breastfeeding)

Spectra
Customer Service T.Spectra

Hi Emmey Lou,

Thanks so much for your question. Knowing which kind of pump is best for you can be a little confronting at first, but basically there are a couple of main groups to choose from - Hospital Grade and Personal Use.

If you have a premmie, are pumping for medical reasons, exclusively expressing or have low supply, we recommend a hospital grade pump such as the S1, S2 or the Dew350. All can be used as single or double pumps.

If you are returning to work, or want someone else to be able to give your baby a bottle of breast milk occasionally, a personal use pump would be perfect. The 9+ has a display with a counter, and the M1 has the buttons on top for adjusting the suction settings. Both can be used as single or double pumps.

There are lots of factors that go into an individuals milk supply, but generally the more you pump (or breastfeed) the more milk you will make. There are also quite a few methods to maintain and increase supply you can try.

If you would like more information feel free to email our customer support team - [email protected] They have a wealth of pumping experience and would be only too happy to help you choose the best pump for you needs.
