Not the quality you'd expect to see in a stihl product
My bg56 blower packed up after 2 months. The ignition module failed. Its tools like these that give stihl a bad name. Their intention to sell tools for home use - the mums and dads has resulted in a slight loss of quality through their desire to market domestic tools competitively. Shonky ignition modules, inferior carbies, mufflers that clog up, weak alloys and tools that don't stay running. Many of their flagship tools arn't made in germany anymore, let alone their Walmart style replica range.

Listen to your dealer
People who have trouble starting their BG 56 stihl blower should follow the selling dealers starting instructions. Use fresh fuel, not old stuff left in machine over winter, and will have no problems using this great machine,

Pay extra for this make
This item is at the upper end of blower vac units. Spent about a month researching to buy a value for money blower vac 2 stroke. All advices were to try and use it before you buy. The local stilh dealer was the only dinkum store to allow this, the large hardware chains couldn't facilitate this. Read up on all reviews and feedback on internet & forums. Spoke with mowing contractor. Decision made to buy stilh.
Truly magnificent unit. One of the few blowers with air intake on right hand side so the intake of air doesn't suck your clothes in (bein...Read more

Power, easy to use
I was sick of running extension cords to run the electric blower vac, which was cumbersome, noisy and generated lots of dust when vacuuming. So purchased the BG 56 recently, $249 including vacuum attachment. Easy start, easy to handle, powerful wind and very effective at sweeping the driveway. Will stick to Stihl oil, as other reviewers have advised. Not sure about the gutter cleaner yet, but at least it is an option. My first Stihl product, I feel like I'm in the top league now.
Value when vac attachment included, ease of start, handling

Best Tool In my Shed
I never get tired of using my Stihl blower. It's powerful enough to keep my yard neat and tidy and starts 1st or 2nd pull of the cord. Setting it up to use the as a vacuum takes a few goes to perfect but works a treat in getting leaves out of the garden.
If I were to add any improvement it would be to supply a fuel mixing container.
Powerful, Reliable, Easy to start

Excellent
Originally I didn't want to buy this product because I assumed all entry level Stihl gear were Chinese made so I went with a 2-stroke Makita blower from Bunnings. That was a great product surprisingly (you wouldn't thing Bunnings sold quality products) that started first pull brand new out of the box. Although I assumed it would last many years I wasn't too sure or happy about the availability of spare parts and servicability. So when I found out the BG56 was made in USA I quickly sold the Makita and bought this bad boy. This is my first Stihl ...Read more
gear and so far I'm satisfied with the product (I've only had it about a month too just so you know). They are $349 RRP however I bought one for $329 plus 1 litre of Stihl oil which is $16. Oh yeah make sure to use Stihl oil as well. I use the Masport 2-stroke oil for my Victa trimmer and the Stihl oil is much thicker and that why you can use 50:1 ratio instead of 25:1 ratio for other oil brands. Anyway I love my Stihl blower =) 1) Made in USA (gotta be careful because their entry level chainsaws and trimmers are Chinese made though the new generation trimmers are US made). 2) Semi automatic choke is innovative. 3) New design which reduces flooding (the previous engines were easy to flood if the user did not know how to correctly start a Stihl product which caused alot of people who did not know how to correctly use gas powered products to think that Stihl products are hard to start. 4) Starts easy with around 2-3 good pulls from cold. 5) Kill switch returns to the on position makes starting the next time easier as there are less things to worry about. 6) I LOVE THE SOUND OF THE ENGINE WHEN IDLE. 7) Availability of spare parts. 1) With the new semi automatic choke you are unable to hold the throttle to start a cold engine as doing so will cause the choke to turn to the run (hot) position automatically. 2) Handle feels a bit flimsy and I'm afraid to grip it too tightly in case it breaks.Similar opinion? A Blowing Beauty!
Simple, starts easily, awesome blowing ability and relatively quiet! This machine has been well engineered and built with the usual Stihl quality components. I expect to get may years of blow out of this machine.
Easy to start, reliable and does a great job.

Does a good job and very tough
Great blower, I am a gardener and use it almost every day at about 4 properties per day. It does a great job on residential properties. It is a bit small for use in larger areas such as school grounds. It makes my job quick and easy and even does a good job of moving wet leaves.
It is just chucked in the back of the ute and rolls around a fare bit, has even been left in the rain a few times and still keeps on going.
The only issue I have is that there is a wire gauze on the exhaust it just keeps on clogging up. The shop says that it is from r...Read more

Hard on the hands and good on the leaves...
I use the Sthil BG56 every day for about 2 hours in the morning and intermittently throughout the day during my course of work.
The BG56 is powerful enough to blow off wet leaves on concrete and blow out leaves from larg gardens and even leaves that have grown into hedges.
My biggest gripe is that the vibration transmitted through the handle takes a big toll on your hand(s), you are left with pins and needles for hours after using it solidly and I fear that this will do some nasty damage to my hands soon enough. The older Sthil unit that...Read more
is far weaker and much heavier, has a anti vibration handle and is far far far more comfortable to use even if it weights half the weight again. For short periods of use, this unit would be ideal; even buying anti vibration gloves would be better than going bare handed. Otherwise the unit works flawlessly. We removed the baffle in the exhaust which have it some extra low down rev torque which helps move litter quicker and saves a little on fuel. Light weight compared to older unit, good on fuel, blows away stubborn leaves! VIBRATION is hard on the hand(s). Noisy without the baffle - however fixed fuel use and low down performance issues.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Entry level blower that blew me away
Sick of connecting and dragging power cords so decided to replace my old electric Ozito mulcher/blower. Did some homework comparing all brands of leaf blowers and decided to try Stihl based on comments and reputation, wasn't disappointed. This entry level unit is mighty powerful, easy to start, easy to control and direct airflow, only criticism would be trigger is quite large and carrying unit between locations requires holding carry handle further down which is not its centre of gravity (no detraction from performance). Was concerned that more...Read more
expensive models have fanned outlets but this was soon dispelled with the round end tube outlet being perfect for domestic use. Very happy with the build quality of this unit. In an age of RTA products, was refreshing to experience the Stihl customer service charter of item pre-delivery, setup, training, advice and warranty card filled out on customer behalf. Very happy to recommend this unit to anyone. Build quality, easy to start, not too noisy, excellent air streamSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Makes my life easier.
It has been a reliable and consistent appliance and I could not do without it at our place. It always starts first time everytime and we have never had anything go wrong with it in 4 years. We also went and bought a Stihl Whipper snipper as we liked it so much.
Reliable

Not only is this an excellent blower, I am proud of myself for discovering it (& buying it)
When I looked around to buy a petrol blower,I chanced upon a japanese made Makita RBL 250 retailing for $279 at Bunnings. I thought this looks good but I'm aware that Makita is not well known for garden power tools. I did some research and found out that Echo PB2155 ($299) and Stihl BG56 ($249) were on offer. I took one look at Stihl and decided to buy it.
It turned out to be a very sound decision. Visually, this blower is well made and the external parts fit very well. The colour combination of orange and white is pleasing to the eye. Althoug...Read more

Thanks for your thoughts I too am tossing up whether to buy a Makita 2500 or the Sthil BG 56. But your post has convinced me to buy the Sthil and the gutter extension sounds like just what i need. Can you remember what the extension cost? Thanks!!!
If I am not mistaken, it was approx $90.
Thanks for your review, how has the gutter extension gone?, I'm very interested in this feature

Great blower
This blower is wonderful piece of equipment to use. Very easy to start and it has the fantastic idling sound that every owner will know. At FOT the engine is still reasonably quiet, considering it is a 2 stroke which is good for the user and people around. It is also pretty fuel efficient. The only problem is that Stihl spare parts have always been expensive, but then again at the price of $249 AU on sale ($349 RRP) you just can't go past that. Recommend this blower to anyone that is looking for a blower for around the house.
Fantastic idle sound! Easy to start, compact size, simple to use and reasonably quiet
Stihl spare parts are expensive

A worthwhile investment!
Was debating about getting a Makita at Bunnings but read fantastic reviews of the BG56. Decided to take the punt and go for Stihl. Great thing about it is that its made in USA! You can't beat that!
Saw it on special for $249 till end of June. Cranked it up at home and whoa! This thing blows like the wind and will clear leaves and dirt and dust from your garage in seconds! Lightweight unit that is easy to start, great sound and comes in the iconic orange and white colors. Bought mine at Admon Macinery in Bulleen and the boys showed me how to sta...Read more

I am glad it died
I have done a fair few laws in my life and am a very keen gardener so I needed a good reliable blower to keep my gardens looking nice. I was talked into buying the Stil BG56 and what a load of rubbish and total waste of money. From day one it started to flood when attempting to start and as a result I always had spare spark plugs so I could replace the wet one with a dry one. I have had a 2 new carb kits fitted and the report from the repairer was that I have to get a brand new carby. Having spent more on repairs than what the unit cost I can a...Read more

andrewasked
how do you atatch vacuum,please
1 answer
Hi Andrew you need a flat screwdriver, turn the sthil on it's side white air intake upwards. Locate the slot that you can insert the screw driver to release the cover. Pull cover back and look for the imprinted arrows on the side of the intake and the large tube which will suck up the leaves, line them up and twist the sleeve to lock the two together. Repeat the same for the bag collector. There might be a video on youtube?
