the best for this category of car
After test driving a number of other vehicles in this category including the Nissan X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander and Toyota Rav 4, we concluded that the Forester had a lot more bang for buck and drove much nicer than the other cars. The Nissan X-Trail came closest and was a very quiet and smooth ride but the Forrester just came with more tech and had really good vision from the enlarged front, rear and side windows. We had a battery fail and Subaru covered this under warranty without any issues.
The transmission (CVT) is great and shifts real...Read more

Spacious functional wagon
Bought our Forester in 2014 and nothing has ever gone wrong since. It is very spacious for transporting large teenage boys around which is the best thing plus lots of boot space.
It cruises very well on long journeys, absorbs the bumps, and seems fuel efficient.
The only two annoying things are the automatic engine switch off which I find very irritating and you whilst you can turn it off for each journey, the default is always on. The other thing is it's not that attractive looking, a bit boring in my opinion but, it does the job and I'd highly recommend it for a family car with great safety features.

What a great car so solid, just watch out the doors open really wide and can bang into other parked
Driving experience - this car is far Superior then our old Ford Escape, it drives smoothly and is higher off the floor so you can see further ahead, which gives you better ability to predict the traffic.
Just watch out when you open the doors they open very wide and you can easily hit other car that are parked nearby, especially dangerous when you have kids who are determined to open their own doors but not strong enough to stop the force of the door. I like the feature that tells us how many km's we have left before the fuel will run out.
The reliability has been fine we have only had the car for a couple of weeks it is way more economical then the old Ford Escape.

Why drive anyting else - Superior engineering/safety/handling/drive/overall package viewpoint
Upgraded from the Subaru XV to the Forester, from an engineering/safety/handling/drive/overall package viewpoint, the boxer engine is smooth coupled with the AWD system, why drive anything else.
(Having driven most vehicle brands).
- Superior AWD system.
- Very underrated vehicle in comparison to other common brands.
- A great SUV.
- Drive one to understand the engineering behind these vehicle.
Definitely recommend one over other common brands.

Fantastic
I have had my Forester since late February and have covered some 8000km of everything from coastal bitumen to sandy outback conditions around Lake Mungo area and much in between. I'm in love with it. No-one else gets to drive it.
Its handling through bends and on corrugations is excellent, its fuel economy is great (far better than previous models) and its comfort has impressed even my most sensitive passengers. It is responsive and a delight to drive....a passenger commented that it "caresses the curves".
Unfortunately the interior fi...Read more
nish is pretty plasticky - I bought the base 2.5l model as I didn't want the eyesight cameras because of the amount of outback driving I do with windscreen damage highly likely, and so got the most basic finish elsewhere. That said, everything works and there are no rattles and squeaks even after long periods on rough and corrugated roads and a few forays into tame off-road situations. The dust sealing could be a bit better, I guess, but I suspect that really fine dust would get through even the best sealed vehicle and the finest filters. Cabin is quiet and seats are comfy. It has a practical if somewhat basic layout that works. Did I say I love it?Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Wonderful car
Great car, have used it on and off-road.
Have done 82,000 kms, service costs are good, drives well
Only one problem the interior light is crap, have fitted a light bar to the rear cargo bay
Noisey with more aggressive tyres, but that was my choice.
I have fitted a lift kit, AT Tyres, awning and nudge bar.

Wow! We love it!
We were committed Toyota owners but decided to look at a few similar SUVs before buying our new car. We had heard a lot of good reports about Subaru and after taking one for a test drive we were hooked. We find it is very comfortable to drive and holds the road well. There is plenty of interior room. The leather upholstery is very comfortable and I love the memory function for the drivers seat that automatically adjusts the seat to the driver's pre-set setting. We also like the EyeSight driver assistance feature with its range of safety functions. The price was also much better than the equivalent RAV4.

Perfect Mid sized SUV
These are the things I like the most:
1) Good visibility throughout unlike other SUVs where they restrict the size of rear view for the sake of design.
2) New muscular looks.
3) Great fuel efficiency on highways. Sydney to Canberra was showing less than 7 ltrs /100 kms.
4) Very good ride quality and stability on highways as well as other roads.
5) 5 Star safety.
6) Rear view camera makes it easier to park.
List goes on. I am in love with this car.
Two of my friends bought the same car after hearing my reviews :) Highly recommended for family of 3+.

Problem with the fuel efficiency
I have a 2013 model and am having major issues with the fuel efficiency. I am getting 13/100km which is about the same as a V8. Took it to the mechanic and they couldn't find anything wrong with it and said it may just need a tune up. Alternatively they could spend hours pulling the car apart. I went for the tune up and it didn't work. Has anyone else had this issue? I am chewing petrol likes no tomorrow and don't really want to sell on the car to someone else with this problem.

2014 Subaru Forester
This is my second Forester. The first was the S3 2009, I bought it 2nd hand with only 9000 on the clock. I stepped out of a Commodore and into the S3 because I needed more usability.
Two things in the S3 2.5l Auto was the fuel consumption 10+ around town and the 4 speed auto. The auto had trouble deciding between 1st 2nd and 3rd at slow speeds. Other than that it was a pleasure to drive.
This year we got an S4 2.5l CVT. This is car seems only distantly related to the S3. Larger, higher and less thirsty. To date it's life average is 8.6 (...Read more
but can you believe the Subaru's data?). It is better to drive than the S3 with more seat adjustment and the passenger seat is set higher than the old one. The CVT, works like magic, it is interesting to drive when you put your foot down to 4000rpm and feel it accelerate without any discernible gear shift. The revs don't drop until you lift your foot. I guess the only draw back may be the long term performance of the CVT. They are relatively new so if it lasts 10 years then you could probably consider them reliable.Similar opinion? Further to my initial review we have just returned from a 3 month 8,800+ km holiday to the NT towing a trailer. The car performed beautifully with not one single problem. Handled all conditions with ease.
